Yes it would great addition to Freesat ,but would it be at lower bit rate ? So if your 4K the picture quality will be crap ,finger crossed

It'll be SD only. People who buy 4k tvs deserve all the eye strain they get frankly.

And this is exactly where I'd surmise it is all coming from. Sky are going down this road and further away from SD services.

Meanwhile the BBC, ITV (including its ITV encore), Channel 4 and Channel 5 all renegotiated their re-transmission fees to zero on Sky's platform, meaning Sky do place a value on content.

Other channels are now trying to re position themselves. It would make sense that UKTV could have both facilities, by having an SD presence on one and HD etc on the other. They are already on the other platforms anyway.

There has been speculation that this would happen last year when their satellite carriage contract with Sky ran out. This coincided with lots more space on the narrow beams becoming available.

SD for freesat and HD for pay tv channels, most of UK TV's content is repeats so it will like having the bbc I-player for content we missed 6 months ago

This will be great for freesat, we already have uktv channels on freeview in Wexford, with the exception of Gold and alibi.
Getting all these new channels on freesat will be excellent especially if it includes Gold

this from a link on another forum
said Darren Childs, chief executive, UKTV. “We pay relentless attention to our ever-increasing reach and distribution, ensuring modern British viewers can enjoy our vibrant channels and imaginative shows, whichever kind of television provision and technology they have: free, pay or online only.”

if the sd channels are on freesat, their reach will beat the 100m from the above link in the future

I don't know this at all but four of UKTV's channels can be played on the UKTV Play on demand service website in the Republic of Ireland. That is fantastic news. :D

    http://uktvplay.uktv.co.uk/help/

So far it consists of Dave, Drama, Really & Yesterday being playable in Ireland.

    Hi guys...
Been trying to enter the code/frequencies for the FTA channels in my mothers,
Im getting a "No Signal" pop up...
She has the other Fta channels, can get Film4, but cant get E4, Can get More4+1 , but cant get More4.
Anyone got any ideas what the problem could be.
In summary, She is getting some FTA channels, but not them all. The signal Test shows a fairly good signal .

How good is the fairly good signal, also more important how good is the signal quality reading?

Perhaps this would be better suited to a different thread, it hasn't got anything to do with the UKTV channels, which aren't FTA (yet?).

Social media forums in Ireland also report that UKTV's free-to-air services have been made available on UKTV Play from today, a service which was previously geo-blocked to the UK.

This going, and my January paycheque as this months one is rather committed already, will see the end of my UPC TV subs.

New dish (as my brother in law managed to break it, it was at ground level), aerial, bit of wiring, two Foxsat HDRs, set the bedroom one to record every episode of Homes Under The Hammer that the BBC shows/repeats and that's my need for UPC gone. Discovery Home&Health (for HUTH) and Dave are our background noise channels, and the nearly 50 quid a month they cost will pay for the kit very quickly

No, you get them as part of the basic channel package (at least I assume that's the case and they are not a fancy-dan premium price)

If you mean are these channels on the same satellites as the SKY channels? Then yes - the SD transmissions be moved from behind the Sky pay wall and integrated onto the Freesat EGP.

Confirmed for Really, Yesterday and Drama going free-to-air:

    http://www.a516digital.com/2015/12/freesat-finally-confirms-uktv-additions.html

    http://www.joinfreesat.co.uk/uktv-channels-to-land-on-freesat/

    2nd confirmation

Freesat is better than freeview now as with a Humax freesat Freetime you can choose the part of the UK you want

I have the basic sky package alongside freesat/saorview

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,620 ✭✭✭enfant terrible

Will these show up on a sky fta card or just free sat systems?
