Is it a huge deal for a predominantly left hand drive manufacturer to produce right hand drive models?.............

I couldn't imagine it's any more of a problem than making diesel and petrol variants of a particular model in the same factory, likely less of a deal really :)
Once the volume requirement is there. They'll make what the market needs.

Really good review Mark. This looks like it'll be a success, looks like the first real mainstream affordable one that has range and not a massive leap from ICE.

    Watched it last night.
    Great ad for vw anyway.
Almost wanted one after. Despite not needing more than 1 seat for my commuter

I watched this the other day and also Bob flavin and complete car.ie.
All really positive. personally I would want the toys that the max comes with. it may feel pretty bare without them. 56k is a lot though and you have to speculate that the twin engine four wheel drive version will be a 70k car here.
I was in an id3 and thought the plastic quality was pretty poor but they have improved things on the id4 it seems. I think the Skoda Enyaq is a better looking car and has a nicer interior though but again is expensive.
they will sell like hot cakes. when I was in VW garages in December, the id4 was the car they had the most orders in for in 2021.
I get the feeling from your review Mark, it is a car you would put your own money in.

Saw the Harry's Garage review on YouTube, looks to be a cracking little car. Until I watched the video, I presumed it was the sporty version of the current Yaris. Didn't realise it's a proper homologation car. I think it's around 30k in the UK, how much in Ireland?

    I think it’s about 50k base price.

    It's low 50s here afaik.

It's close to double that here unfortunately. There are a few of them flying around local to you, I have seen a red and white one on the roads around here.

Did you uncle buy from Kelly's?

On another thread someone mentioned that a civic type R is now 70k here.
Wltp and new vrt rates has really killed the petrol performance market here, which is what was intended by the greens anyway I suppose.

    Must be about 50k
Looking at what he's trading and what they want with it.

Kelly's is who he has the deal done with.
Not got his test drive yet so I'm not sure this is 100% closed

The circuit pack model with the two torsen diffs, forged wheels etc. is €57k. Base car is about 52-53k.

Jesus Christ the GR is some car. Not going to be for everyone at that price but as a big boys toy, the grip, acceleration it's properly raw but easy to drive like a lunatic.

Yup thats the Greens for you, light hot hatchbacks which don't require a lot of materials in the manufacturing process are awful planet killers, 2.5 tonne SUVs with plug in hybrid or fully electric engines (and all the extra CO2 that goes with making them) are going to save the planet and lead to a carbon neutral economy, can't tell their arse from their elbow when it comes to cars and protecting the planet.

I’d absolutely love one, haven’t driven one obviously but have watched and read so many reports of its brilliance that I’d have one.
I’ll have to wait a few years though, €57 grand is beyond my means.

I don't even know how much they'll drop by, they're only making 2500 of them I think,

    25000 Mark.

I’d say they will hold their value extremely well. A modern day Integrale perhaps

I'd say they'll make more, they never expected there to be such demand for them.

A modern day Integrate for sure, and they're can't be much higher praise than that - especially as you know with it being a Toyota you'll be able to drive it like it was intended and it will still be perfect 300,000 km later.

They will be very thin on the ground here and importing one won't be any cheaper so I'd say the few that will be here will be well sought after and retain their values.

Well look what's popped up for sale again, the 440i:

    https://www.carsireland.ie/2750973

42k this time, wasn't it advertised for not much more than that last year by the BMW in Waterford? 44k? It looks like depreciation rates drop alot slower between dealer forecourts than they do for the owners.

I recall it was listed for 45kish last year.

That should be in high 30’s but main dealer premium...

Theres also the 'we know you can't go to uk anymore' premium.
I'm still window shopping in around 2017/18 5 series and A6 and they're more expensive at the moment than they were at tail end of last year. Asking prices are anyway, we'll see how it settles during the year.
3 year old 182 reg A6 are still knocking around 40k and a 4 year old bmw 530e are still around 30k.
When I bought a 4 year old a6 and a 4 year old 5 series in 2018 they were much much cheaper than a 4 year old now (although model has changed on both since)

No doubt you are looking at higher spec stuff but in 2016 a new A6 2.0TDI 150 SE was shy of €46k. Now a A6 40 TDI 204HP S-tronic SE is OTRP €52,400.

Second hand prices are indeed loony high.

Yes I'm going by msports and s-line, stuff that would be in around 60k new.
I'm going by a 190bhp 2.0 tdi s line black edition c7 and a 530d msport f10 I bought in 2018 (both coincidentally had same mileage, 60k kms) for far less than I could buy a c8 audi s line 204bhp and I can't even get a g30 520d or 530e for same price at same age and mileage. I accept the new model price increase has a part to play as does general inflation. I also don't know what they're actually selling for if they're selling at all.

The 530d is long gone but I still have the a6 2014 and the value of that has also solidified looking at what people are asking for them so not the end of the world.

I'm not actively looking at changing really, more just an observation as to what I see from my browsing.
