It was backed up yesterday for miles. Apparently a chap threw himself under a Truck. Was held for an hour last week too when a nurse lost her life when her car went in under a Truck.

road traffic collisions happens on m50 EVERYDAY.
just not all of them goes on media.

this week a bit exeptional because of a number of serious RTC happened

If that's the case, it wasn't mentioned on the media, and is desperately sad. All other considerations are secondary. RIP to the poor man.

I think it was implied by the media. A pedestrian walking along the M50 isn't a normal situation.

Sad that it came to that.

    Car could have broken down?
Maybe taking a short cut from one area to another?
Any actual confirmation that is was suicide?
Never actually said where on the M50 he was... never heard he was 'walking' either.

He "fell" off a bridge into the path of an oncoming truck

My wife witnessed this accident this morning (by DL). She rang me to tell me that a jeep, shunted another car at 100kmh, which careered into another then sped off.

Why not make the M50 a 60kph zone, set up speed cameras every kilometre and have spacing chevrons on the road to ensure safe distance kept.

Better for everyone to mosey on at 60kph than be stopped due to accidents.

Close the M50 altogether. Should reduce accidents on that road by a 100%

Massivly increase road tax, use the new gains from that to redevelop and broaden the public transport infrastructure, offer greatly reduced fares on public transport, and get 90% of the sh*tboxes with morons driving them off the road.

The govt already make a ton off motor tax, what makes you think more money will make them "redevelop and broaden the public transport infrastructure, offer greatly reduced fares on public transport, and get 90% of the sh*tboxes with morons driving them off the road."

No just more money for their pockets......

Thats exactly what they would do, but im just thinking out loud on how to resolve the increasingly pressing issue of traffic and traffic related incidences in this city.

Build a temporary Traffic Garda station near an on ramp. Have a number of traffic Gardai on the M50 24-7, along with speed camera vans. Have a zero tolerance approach to enforcing the rules of the road.

Close the station once people have got the message and change their behaviour.

The driving culture on the M50 is so far gone, it needs a severe adjustment.

what about the morons who arent driving ****boxes?

i think moron and sh*tbox go hand in hand, sh*tbox is subjective to the individual, i mean i think 90s japanese cars are beautiful and my father thinks they are sh*tboxes. And the lovely new ford focus i bought for him he thinks is lovely and i would refer to as a sh*tbox, not a direct description of a box full of sh*t but a vehicle that i do not care for.

At all times it would. They'd want to HTFU with camera enforced variable speed limits on the M50, even as a trial to see would it improve things.

Variable speed limits on the M50 will not help in any way with lane discipline. It will just be a revenue generator for the government.

A man died today on that motorway, in such as way as has absolutely nothing to do with enforcement, lane-discipline, traffic volumes, or shítboxes. RIP.

Not to be inflammatory but people die every day and by the 100's of thousands, the discussion is about the current state of the m50, and its been made clear that i am not talking ill of the dead. If you would like a RIP thread for the lost soul youre more than likely to start one.

This discussion, according to the original post, is about the accident that occurred on the M50 at about 14:10 this afternoon, in which some poor devil fell off a bridge onto the carriageway. I don't give a monkey's fcuk what you're talking about. If you want to rant about the M50 I suggest you join one of the many fine threads on that very subject.

This actually makes a lot of sense. Half the issue is people not realising they are in a large flexing spring pattern e.g. Traffic stops, starts to move, stops again and the ripple occurs backwards. You have people believing that the faster they go, the faster they'll get somewhere. Unfortunately you catch up with the next 'stop' faster, need to brake hard, and actually make the situation worse. By enforcing a gap and a lower average speed, this would be drastically reduced.

M50 should be variable speed, rigorous lane enforcement and a dynamic limit (perhaps even 80km/h at rush hour) I also firmly believe that lane 1 should have a solid line 500m and 500m after every single junction. It would keep traffic moving in lanes 2 and 3, and avoid those that feel that they have 3s to get into the middle lane or all is lost. It would also have the benefit of encouraging people to think a little ahead about being in lane 1 if they want to exit and perhaps leaving lane 1 before if a junction or merge is busy. Going a step further, make lane 3 an express lane, discouraging its hogging use and keeping it free flowing between the busiest junctions area.

Oh, and enforce the hell out of it with large fines and some ANPR.

You'd be surprised at the number of lads I see getting picked up or dropped off on the hard shoulder.

The other thing I have noticed happening more often is motorbikes using the hard shoulder in traffic that is slow moving (as opposed to stopped altogether).

Behaviour in general (from drivers, motorcyclists, pedestrians) on the M50 seems to be getting worse...

My wife drives a 1.9 TDI and is not a moron - because I thought her proper lane discipline.(emphasis on "I")

Morons are not a result of the type of engine powering their car but are a result of this ****ty countries driver education.

Im just back from a weekend in Germany where we covered 400kms driving on Autobahns (in a 2.0 TDI if that matters) - 99% of driver had flawless motorway etiquette regardless of what they were driving

The sh*t standard of drivers this country produces and morons such as yourself that associate sh*t driving with particular cars and engines are the REAL problem.

    Fool.

Someone with taste, but who needs a daily for long commutes?

For the (off topic) record, I'm a massive fan of JDM cars, I'd take a BMW over a Merc anyday, E39 to be exact, and and there is some damn good diesels out there, I've just never owned one as i dont cover the milage to warrent owning one.

Surely you mean my post was foolish not abusing me calling me a fool?! Because that would be a foolish thing to post........

And did i say 100% of people driving tdi's are morons? No, so stop posting kneejerk reaction posts getting your knickers in a twist.

And emphasis on "you" for teaching your wife how to drive, the relevance is mind blowing.

Foolish post. Also abusive post, lay off the name calling it detracts from your argument.
