I was thinking there are probably lots of people with odd stories or anecdotes etc of strange unexplained coincidences.

I always love reading this kind of stuff, as it really makes you wonder about life and the bigger picture of things. (well it does for me anyways)

(NB: This is not a conspiracy thread - so please try avoid too much speculative theories.)

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Here's my contribution to begin: It's about the similarities between the Lincoln and JFK assassinations.

I'm not speculating on what any of this means. I just thought people might find the parallels quite interesting/amusing/odd?

    > Both Lincoln and Kennedy were concerned with civil rights.

    > Lincoln was elected President in 1860; Kennedy in 1960.

    > Both were killed on a Friday in the presence of their wives.

    > Both were shot from behind and in the head.

    > Their successors, both named Johnson, were Southern Democrats and both were in the Senate.

    > Andrew Johnson was born in 1808 and Lyndon Johnson was born in 1908.

    > John Wilkes booth (lincoln's assassin) was born in 1839 and Lee Harvey Oswald (JFK's alleged assassin) was born in 1939.

    > Booth and Oswald were Southerners favoring unpopular ideas.

    > Both Presidents’ wives lost children through death while in the White House.

    > Lincoln’s secretary, whose name was Kennedy, advised him not to go to the theater.

    > Kennedy’s secretary, whose name was Lincoln, advised him not to go to Dallas.

    > John Wilkes booth shot Lincoln in a theater and ran to a warehouse.

    > Lee Harvey Oswald shot Kennedy from a warehouse and ran to a theater.

    > The names Lincoln and Kennedy each contain seven letters.

    > The names Andrew Johnson and Lyndon Johnson each contain thirteen letters.

    > The names John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald each contain 15 letters.

    > Both assassins were killed before being brought to trial.

    > Both Johnsons were opposed for re-election by men whose names start with “G.”

Quite a jaw-dropping amount of coincidences there. lol

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So does anyone else have any stories with some weird unexplained coincidences? Please share! :)

For a start, Lincoln did not have a secretary called Kennedy and Kennedy has 2 secretaries - Nicolay and Hay. Booth was born in 1838, not 1839.

But don't let facts blur a good yarn.

AFAIK Booth was captured in a barn not a warehouse

Also after shooting JFK, Oswald went back to his boarding house, then he shot Tippit, after that he ran to the cinema

Shooting someone in the head from behind seems like a very clever way of killing someone rather than a weird coincidence

Interestingly though, Booths' brother saved Lincoln's son from being hit by a train a yet prior to the assassination.

    In conclusion... Aliens.

Life is full of things that can be construed as coincidence if you're interested in looking for them. And if you're looking for them then your confirmation bias will find them. This is what psychics rely on, people willing to join the dots to make something more significant than it actually is.

I was in a supermarket and saw a girl who looked like me.

She was around the same age
    She also had dark hair
We were both there on Saturday
    We both bought loo roll
She and I both drove there in cars
She and I both wore T-shirts
We queued at the exact same till
We both parked in the same row
Our cars were roughly the same colour
    We both pushed shopping trollies

    Coincidence??

Some of the 'coincidences' in the OP are fiction anyway.

The surname Oswald sounds like Griswald from those National Lampoon films. Who was in those films? Chevy Chase. Chase rhymes with race, which could mean presidential race for instance?

I posted a link to this in a thread like this not too long ago.

"Littlewoods Law states that a person can expect to experience an event with odds of one in a million (defined by the law as a "miracle") at the rate of about one per month."

author of the book 'Futility, or the Wreck of the Titan' predicts the sinking of the Titanic 14 years before the event (by chance)

Futility, or the Wreck of the Titan is an 1898 novella written by Morgan Robertson. The story features the ocean liner Titan, which sinks in the North Atlantic after striking an iceberg. The Titan and its sinking have been noted to be very similar to the real-life passenger ship RMS Titanic, which sank fourteen years later. Following the wreck the novel was reissued with some changes, particularly in the ship's gross tonnage.

Beyond the name of the ship, the similarities between the Titanic and the fictional Titan include....

    Both were triple screw (propeller)

    Described as "unsinkable"

The Titan was the largest craft afloat and the greatest of the works of men (800 feet, displacing 75,000 tons, up from 45,000 in the 1898 edition), and was deemed "practically unsinkable" (as quoted in Robertson's book).

    Shortage of lifeboats

The Titanic carried only 16 lifeboats, plus 4 Engelhardt folding lifeboats,[5] less than half the number required for her passenger and crew capacity of 3000.

The Titan carried "as few as the law allowed", 24 lifeboats, which could carry less than half of her total complement of 3000.

    Struck an iceberg

Moving at 22½ knots, the Titanic struck an iceberg on the starboard side on the night of April 14, 1912, in the North Atlantic, 400 nautical miles (740 km; 460 mi) away from Newfoundland.

Moving at 25 knots, The Titan also struck an iceberg on the starboard side on an April night in the North Atlantic, 400 nautical miles (740 km; 460 mi) from Newfoundland (Terranova).

    Sinking

The Titanic sank, and more than half of her 2200 passengers and crew died.

The Titan also sank, and more than half of her 2500 passengers drowned.

'Following the Titanic's sinking, some people credited Robertson with clairvoyance. Robertson denied this, claiming the similarities were explained by his extensive knowledge of shipbuilding and maritime trends....' Wiki

personally, I think it is too much of a coincidence.

Lee Harvey Oswald shot Kennedy from a warehouse and ran to a theater.

Yes but that shot missed, so he had to run around to the grassy knoll to deliver the kill shot to the head and he then ran back to the book depository building. Fit man.

A couple of Fridays ago I was driving home and Dire Straits money for nothing was on the radio. The lyric...'custom kitchens...deliveries...' made me think that 'kitchen' wasn't a word you'd hear in too many songs. The only other I could think of was Crowded House...Everywhere you go...'things aint cooking in my kitchen...'

The next song on was Hot Chocolate...You sexy thing but the one after was the aforementioned Crowded House - Everywhere you go...! Strange cosmic goings on.

Funnily enough at work a week a ago a colleague was trying to convince me that Jonah Lomu was dead. I assured him he was very much alive and kicking which he was at the time. This morning I've just seen that he passed away last night.

The Lemonheads have a song called "Kitchen".

It was written by an Australian called Nic Dalton.

Australia is right beside New Zealand.

Crowded House are from New Zealand.

New Zealand is where Lord Of The Rings was shot.

Seventy-year-old twin brothers have died within hours of one another after separate accidents on the same road in northern Finland.

The first of the twins died when he was hit by a lorry while riding his bike in Raahe, 600 kilometres north of Helsinki.
About two hours later, his brother crossed the same road on his bicycle and was also hit and killed by a lorry.
He died just 1.5km from the spot where his brother was killed.

    Always liked this coincidence:

The speed of light in metres per second is 299792458. The great pyramid at Giza has co-ordinates of 29.9792458, 31.134658. It's only a coincidence that the numbers are the same, but it's still kinda cool.

What you are referring to here, is not the actual coincidences themselves... but more the (often wildly speculative) conclusions people choose to draw from them!

The coincidences themselves don't necessarily need to have any deep meaning or significance. Often they're just amusing or entertaining when they occur.

Not everybody that notices some odd coincidence, is automatically a conspiracy theory nut or a wanna be clairvoyant.

That's an assumption many people erroneously make. (which seems like a bit of a confirmation bias in itself really) :pac:
