    Hi folks,
Looking for suggestions for good quality rain gear for my dad. He uses a quad a fair bit for out and about. Would be looking for something fairly light but good quality.
    Cheers

I have Oringi gear and trousers has bib and brace. Excellent waterproofing but not thorn proof.

My brother has Kaawaki gear, really comfortable, waterproof and thorn proof. More expensive but really worth it. I'm kinda hoping my old gear springs a leak before spring :):).

Is the kaawaki gear heavy to wear?

maybe worth considering a mini-pickup if he is out in the weather so much ?

a little bit safer too - nasty injuries from quad rollovers

Could wear all day, we do in spring, milking, calving carrying calves and feeding the buggers. Lash in machine once or twice a week, gets fair stink

It's 98 aswell. She was still taxed and DOE'd. But I'll never have it on the road. Red diesel and whenever the Tyres need to be done I'll put a set of foresters on it. I'm finding it way handier than the quad

Would it mark up the ground more in wet weather? Leave more tracks that is on wet ground?

    Hi Mick,

The cheap jeep above sounds a great idea especially if you never need it on the road.

I have one of these http://www.caulfieldindustrial.com/dickies-wp15000-waterproof-padded-coverall-black/p-g24271pd.html.

Its in bright yellow and another selling point is you end up looking like a giant sperm. ;)

    Good luck.

    Thats a good point.

The rain we've been having here the last few days, no way I'd risk the jeep. Might even bog but would surely rut.

    Nay bother with the quad.

Absolutely the best for milking and out and about herding, Grass covers etc...but be very careful....any sharp point will puncture them, so not for any type of repair work, lifting with something against the body etc. Cost 70/80€ and are spoiled if holed.
Nothing wrong with a breathable, showerproof type of over trousers if your dad is doing a mixture of things out and about...more like golfing rain gear. ..

Also check out hunting gear...good insulation and would take a tearing from bushes etc..

    Army surplus?

I got a hydrowear jacket and bib & brace from this crowd at the ploughing a few years back. I think it was €100 for the set.
Never had any problem with them.

I'm thinking of buying a jacket and pullups as a secondary present for OH for Christmas and liked the look of this set up.
There waterproof, breathable and if they get snagged in wire the tear doesn't travel as the fabric is made up of small squares.

Secondary present? At those prices I will never get them from the other half. At this stage I am lucky to get a handle for the sprong.

When it comes to my man no expense is spared :D
€250 for coat and trousers which I thought was a bit steep but if they are as good as they sound I have no problem spending it. The guy that we buy our doses and boluses from is selling them.

Ya....they wouldn't be great for real men.....not for men with real scrotum capacity...

I bought a set of the ISO Ranger wet gear for OH last Wednesday and gave them to him as the weather forecast was giving to be very wet for the rest of the week.
He wore them Thurs, Fri and Sat about the farm and never got wet even though the rain was driving sideways on Friday pm and Saturday. He also said that he didn't sweat up considering that the temperature was fairly mild.
The only thing that I don't like about them is the fact that they use stud buttons to close the flaps that goes over the front zip on the jacket. I found that these stud buttons are inclined to either rust over time or pull through the fabric.

Iv the kaawaki gear I got from gregcare. They are pricy, I think around €200 for the jacket and trousers about a year and a half ago. I'd buy them again. They are light and you don't sweat in them. They are tear proof and the hood really wraps around your face for when your on the quad. If you look after them and wash them now and agin you'll have them forever.

Seems to be simular to the stuff that I got for OH, including the metal button fasteners.

There is a good heavy zip and then the metal button fasteners over the zip.

Anyone using army gear for farming? Cousins in the army there and the gear looks serious, or would the kaawaki gear be better? Need to get something sorted for the spring there.

OH used to buy ex Army gear from a shop in Ballyconnell. It was Gortex and great stuff but the last two sets he bought (in the last 3 years) were pure ****e, you may as well be wearing nothing in heavy rain. That is why I looked about buying proper rain gear. I think I have found it with the set I got for OH and for €100 more than the ex Army stuff.
