Nice speaker if you are happy to pay for Spotify. Fairly new product but the reason why it is heavily discounted appears to be that it only works with Spotify Connect i.e no bluetooth etc. You can link multiple speakers around the house similar to Sonos.

Bigger version was on Ibood last week for about 75 incl delivery so this looks cheap. Powerful enough for kitchen or bedroom.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-SW700M-05-Multiroom-Speaker/dp/B00OM25B7Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1447585510&sr=8-1&keywords=sw700m

Most people buying this will have a spotify premium account. Just a warning though to anyone else. It doesn't work with the free (ad-supported)version of spotify.

yes you are right Jim this is an expensive paperweight if you are not paying for Spotify premium. Seems to be a bit shortsighted for philips to lock this down to an exclusive arrangement with Spotify. That said if are willing to pay for Spotify then you are probably willing to pay for a bose or sonos to go with it

Sweet, that's a great deal. Have Spotify free with my Vodafone account so couldn't resist, thanks for the heads up.

Does this count as a device, or does it connect to a device?

it appears to connect through wifi

Looks good and the reviews seem to indicate a good sound from it. But as said tied to Spotify only is a big negative.

I have a couple of basic wireless speakers which are enough for me.

I haven't tried it yet but Spotify works with Chromecast now which means if I want a better sound I can run it off my TVs surround sound system.

Kinda tempted by this but I've a JBL Flip 2 which does me fine usually.

The other possible option is to get a cheap(ish) speaker and a Chromecast Audio for €39 as that works with Spotify now, aswell as Play Music and some other things.

Why you do this to me OP :(

Why you do this to me OP :(

Well I Bought two of these babies myself and said I needed to bring some of you down with me. I can see these gathering dust in six months when I tire of paying 9.99 a month to Mr Spotify and I will need some like minded boardies to vent with:)

I only went for one, but was tempted by two. Maybe I'll just buy yours off you in six months for some sort of meta-bargain.

I've been happy enough paying 9.99 for Spotify for a while now so doubt i'll stop anytime soon. One of the advantages I find is when I see the money come out it forces me to go find some new music to listen to so I feel I'm getting my moneys worth. I just wish it worked better at playing local files

    4w rms
2.5inch drivers placed a couple of inches apart in a small plastic box
    no bluetooth
    no line in
    no line out
no remote for pause, play, skip etc.

Ticks none of my boxes ..

...but I still want one must resist

I bought the one on Ibood, the sw750m model.
    Still waiting on delivery :)

Would have bought this one, had I seen the price, looks a right bargain!

No need to be paying €9.99 a month. If you're not already with Vodafone, pick up a Vodafone PAYG SIM, stick a bit of credit on it and use it to buy Spotify Premium for a fiver a month!

Can you keep your current username if you do it that way?

I've been buying spotify premuim for almost 7 years now and kinda want to keep that username, but to get it for 1/2 price, I can be swayed :D

Yep! As part of the somewhat convoluted process of buying the subscription using your Vodafone credit, you're asked to log in to the Spotify account you want the subscription applied to.

so you have to pay the Spotify sub out of your phone credit each month?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 105 ✭✭jhansynk10

Yes- be grate to get clarification on this too- it's a good deal but if you need to top up continuously then it doesn't make sense, vodafone PAYG plans tend to be crap.

Interesting... is there a minimum top up per month required to avail of this?

Once you buy the subscription via Vodafone, it'll automatically deduct the fiver from your available credit each month. You don't need to top up each month, just have enough credit on your SIM to pay the subscription when it's due.

So you could put a €30 top up on a SIM, buy the Spotify subscription and leave it be for six months. Then six months later, top up by another €30 etc.

If you actually want to use the SIM for other things besides Spotify, the fiver Spotify add-on comes with 500MB of data too.

If you've insufficient credit when your next month's payment is due, you get a few days' grace and then the subscription lapses. So to get it back, you just start the process all over again.

Oh, and to effectively get a free month or two, get your hands on a cheap/free SIM (eg Tesco Mobile SIM €2.50). Order a free Vodafone PAYG SIM online by porting over this number. When it arrives, register it on the Vodafone website and you get €10 free credit! :D

Tesco sims online are €5. Are they €2.50 in store? Sorry for going OT.

Speaker came and looks good BUT I can not for the life of me get it set up
    Downloaded app
    Open app
And then it continually disconnects from my wifi network and have to switch tablet off and reconfigure
    Getting very annoying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 105 ✭✭jhansynk10

Yeah- I ordered one to so if it turns out to be crap I'm just going to send it back. Does it used specific philips software or can you use the spotify connect feature?

It uses Spotify connect so no having to worry about flakey Bluetooth connection.

Keeps wiping the wifi off my tablet

Can you connect it to your router using WPS?

Just set up the one I bought about an hour ago! (the sw750m from Ibood)
I set it up using the app, but it took 3 times before the app found the speaker :)

    The eagle has landed.

Took 10/15 min but got it set up, pressing wps was knocking the phone off the network.

Pretty happy with it, thanks op

an hour at it now fkin peed off
as soon as its gets to search for speaker option it knocks wifi on tablet off
have to reset app and wait for WiFi again

Think what I did was connect speaker to WiFi with wsp, light on front goes green, then I connected my phone to the WiFi and went though the setup with the app & the amber button on the rear. May have taken a few goes.

It's supposed to make a sound when it connects to WiFi & then to phone but mine didn't

Also the frequency has to be 2.4ghz or something specific, maybe that's tripping people up.

Whoever has two, let me know how it sounds with both in one room, id be tempted by another.
That's if ye get it suckin diesel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,433 ✭✭✭NomadicGray

I think connecting the speaker to the network first is key, then go to the app setup

my router is an old netgear one and does not have a WPS button.......

No hassle with mine. Solid sound!

    Thanks OP.

Very nice speaker set up took about 10 mins!

I want more of them now! Ha

    Damn Bargain Alerts!!!

Lots of reviews say forget about the app and set them up with a browser.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,583 ✭✭✭marcbrophy

km79 have you ever set up a chromecast?
    The process is similar.

The tablet (or phone) is supposed to lose connection to your local WiFi and then connect to the Philips speakers onboard WiFi.
This is how you tell it what the password is for your local WiFi.

If it helps any, I pressed the WPS button until it went green, then pressed the Setup button until that came on, before pressing setup on the app :)
