TK Maxx - most awesome store in Ireland??

I go in there, and I could just buy, and buy and buy.

Normally, clothes shopping, it takes me forever to find something I like and that's in a suitable price range.
I picked up a couple things in River Island a few weeks ago and hell, I'm thinking I'll return them now and better spend the money in TK.

They just got a great selection of real quality things, and totally affordable prices.

Jeez - I sound like a marketing commercial.

Now, normally, when it comes to clothes etc, I wouldn't give a rats furry ass.
I certainly wouldn't make a thread declaring the great bargains I just got; but in this case, I have to make an exception.

Basically filled my closet with all the clothes I need, totally happy with them, and I still have enough left over to party this weekend.

Are there better clothes outlets out there that don't charge upwards of 100 euors per item of clothing??

I don't quite understand why TK Max hasn't put the rest of the clothes stores totally out of business yet.

The odd thing is ok, but there is some amount of dressed up junk for sale in there as well.

Nightmare of a shop. I'm not sifting through rows upon rows of stuff before I find something I like. Hang it up where I can see it!

    You think so?

    Wow.

They had such a great range of knitted wear and winter wear, great jackets, great shirts, t-shirts and I picked up an awesome pair of jeans that was cheaper than what I'd pay in Dunnes!

Sure, there's a whole lot of stuff I wouldn't buy but, that's another great thing.

I can just pick up 10 items I like the look of, try them all on, and choose the one I like best.

Yeah I'll agree with you there.

It is basically long ass rows of hangers that you have to go through but, like I said, that's what I do.

Just find the right size, then go through everything they got in that size, pick the ones I like, try 'em all on, then go with the best looking one.

I suppose it's a little more tedious than in other clothes stores but, I dunno - I just throw in my headphones, and go sifting!!

I'm guessing you're either quite large or quite small. To solve the mystery, check for medium sized clothes and shoes between 8 and 10 inclusive next time you're in.

I think it used to be a hell of a lot better tbh. Most of the stock most of the time is rubbish. Sometimes they have okay stuff, usually when they get a big new season delivery in, but I've completely fallen out of love with the place

    Alright well, going on the last couple posts;

Where do you guys do your clothes shopping then??

    Don't tell me River Island.
    Quite frankly - they stink!

BTW - I'm not advocating their shoes section. That's another kettle of fish.

No I'm not particularly big or small really.
Though, I would probably pick up their large items.
    i.e. not medium or small.
But they got XXL etc - which I wouldn't go for.

Love the home section of Tk maxx but the clothes and they way they are so disorganised irritates the life out of me. My sister on the other hand is obsessed. She buys all her clothes there and they're lovely but I don't have the patience for it.

Went in one once (in UK) thought it was like a church jumble sale.

    Never again.

It is a rip off, I used to see Audrey Roberts from Coronation street shopping in the one in Manchester next to the studios

You need a lot of time to devote to sifting through rails and rails of rubbish to find a gem, usually in a huge size. They're great for very small sizes, which is great for me but I don't see how the majority of the customers can cope with the top and bottom size loading of the clothing.

I have bought some lovely Egyptian bedding there though.

Don't get me wrong, I'll get stuff in TK's if they have something in my size that's nice and good value, that's just rare in Ireland. It's a much better shop in England in my experience. I mostly shop in H&M, Next, Zara, the odd designer shop when they have a sale. Another problem with TK's in Ireland for me is that they mostly sell massively price inflated stuff at slightly less inflated prices, rather than stuff that's actually good value. You can grab a bargain though if you look hard enough.

OP, have you never been in Dealz? You wouldn't be asking this question if you had.

    H and M is okay.
That's where I used to shop.

The Next that I we have here has very poor selection.

    Zara - I think that's womens only.

There's this other mens clothes store in town but damn, you'd want to be doing better than minimum wage to be shopping there.

Haven't been in tk maxx in years. They move stuff around, you can't find anything, and rows and rows of crap which you can never find what you're looking for. Don't have the patience for it.

Haven't bought clothes over here in years. When I did it was mainly out of Tribe in Stephens Green/Liffey Valley. Get most of my clothes now when I am on holiday. JC Penny is real good for clothes, got two pairs of Vans jeans for $20 a while back, buy one get a second pair for 1 cent....beat that TK Maxx.

I love TK Maxx. I've no idea how other clothes shops manage to get by with it around.

    H&M/Debenhams for me.

TX Maxx is generally rubbish and falsely labelled rrps/previous prices.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,235 ✭✭✭✭Cee-Jay-Cee

TK Maxx clothes are all last years clearance items and rejected/seconds and they're not that cheap compared to other stores. You do find the odd bargain but having to sift through a pile of rubbish can be a pain.

Love rummaging through the household section. The handbags are worth a browse too

Zero interest in the clothes. Total mess.

Bollix. If I need, for example, a new shirt, every single shirt in the place that'll fit me is on a rail about 4 feet long.

TKMaxx rocks. It's ten minutes down the m50 in carrickmines. Every single thing I'm wearing at the moment came from there.

    You're doing it wrong.

Love rummaging through the household section.

Some of the kitchen stuff you get in there is actually pretty decent. Not top notch, but great value.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 621 ✭✭✭Under_Graduate

    Hmm, mixed responses.

In terms of the items being cluttered, I'd have to agree with the fact that, there's actually only a short space dedicated to items of the same size so, often there's not too much rooting involved.

    My only complaint is, jeans.

Although I only have to look in a short space, they have them divided only by size so, if I'm looking for boot-cut by example, I have to inspect each pair individually to find the type of jean it is.

That being said, it's not so bad.
Just throw in the headphones, turn up some Pantera to get the adrenaline going, and begin sifting!!

I think its fantastic for odd things like say an occasion outfit for kids, a handbag or something nice for someone's wedding gift or birthday or that. Amazing for baby stuff for gifts and toys!

I wouldn't shop there for all my clothes though, far too expensive and as I'm plus size theres not very much for me there anyway. Get the odd pair of shoes there sometimes. I mostly shop online for myself or go into new look, debenhams or penneys.

Still, love having an aul noodle around there.

TKMaxx is my idea of hell. No order by styles, by sizes. Have to spend ages sifting through stuff and even when you find something nice, it still costs a ton.

    Bugger that.

I just can't shop there with a good conscience, knowing the majority of their stuff is the product of slave labor in Bangladesh.

... You do realize that almost all of the major labels use the same slave labor, right?

Remember when that factory collapsed killing hundreds? It wasn't just Penney's that was there.

    Do you own an iPhone?

Pretty much all clothes are made in a third world country under poor conditions. What makes you think its only Penneys?

    You're kidding.

I had assumed that US brands such as Tommy Hilfiger were made in, well, the US...

    Damn that sucks...

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Motorola use a factory that work their employees so hard in such horrible conditions that they see suicide as the only way out.

I do a bit of shopping in TK Maxx. Mainly basics for work and bags. I tend to go first thing in the morning when the store is quiet. The sore I visit seems to have the store well laid out by clothes type and size so there is not too much rooting. I find it good for knitwear and I tend to buy lots of scarves there. The kitchen section is good.

That says the suicide rate was lower at the factory than the national average?and the workers are relatively well treated.

Although there was a Cromwellian helmet I tried on that fit quite well.

I've picked up a few nice things in TK Maxx's homeware section but I honestly can't see the appeal of their clothes at all. I've rummaged through it a good few times & find the vast majority of their stock hideous, regardless of the label attached to them. So this jumper is reduced from €150 to €70? So what! You'd have to pay me €150 for me to wear it.

Can't stand TK Maxx, the whole shop just looks like my idea of hell. I prefer Burton, myself, Moss Bros. for work shirts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,077 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

I can't pass TK Maxx. Got some really good stuff there but never spend long as I haven't the patience. I was in a store in London recently - way better than any of the stores I've been in here in terms of selections and quality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,624 ✭✭✭✭meeeeh

I'm sure there are some half decent clothes there if you search hard enough but not many. Others got me a few kids things there and except one winter jacket the quality was very poor. The stitching that didn't last or material was fairly poor quality. I feel that even when discounted they are overpriced. I much prefer to go somewhere like Kildare Village where the shops are nicely presented and you get the feeling there is actually a bit of respect for stuff that is sold.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

I've rarely gone to TK Maxx, I choose the places I shop at by how easy they are to access. When I'm shopping I have two requirements, the legal requirement to hide my shame, and the biological requirement to stay warm. This makes decisions easy and I can buy everything I need within seconds once I locate them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,553 ✭✭✭Tarzana2

I love shopping but I have never even set foot in a TX Maxx. Doesn't appeal to me at all for some reason. Seems like a nightmare to navigate to find something decent. No thanks. Ain't nobody got time for that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,337 ✭✭✭✭monkey9

I usually get my shoes and runners in TK Maxx.

Went in there the other day to buy a jumper and ended up spending €300. There's a god awful amount of crap to sort through, but you do get some good bargains. Like the housewares section as well, never know what you might find, even though that section of the shop does look like a jumble sale.
