Lidl - Professional Food Processor/Mixer

Lidl have a Professional Food Processor which will go on sale on Monday - sorry I cannot post links yet.

It seems to be as good, if not better, than the more famous brands, at least it's definitely better value for money. It has a very large bowl - stainless steel, 6.3 litres - and it's extremely poweful, 1300 Watts. The only flaw, if we have to pick one, is that the body is in plastic and not metal like the better known brand, but as the machine has a 3-years guarantee I'd say there isn't much to worry about. It has a full glass blender attachment too, and three accessories - a ball whisk, a dough-hook and a beater - they are all metallic, but the latter two are also coated in Teflon. There's a splash guard too, and a pouring spout too.

I think it's a real bargain at less than €100.

    It is, thank you!

    What does this thing do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29 Lumps Bumps n Blues

It's a food processor with a separate blender. The blender makes smoothies, works as a liquidiser for soups, probably makes baby food too, crushes ice, grinds coffee, makes cocktails, etc. The food processor part kneads dough, whisks ingredients for cakes, etc. It's fantastic for making fluffy batters full of air for sponge cakes and stuff like that, and for preparing various types of icing.

When I find a copy of the instruction book I'll post it here, or at least I hope I'll be able to, and that should give you a better idea.

If you consider that other brands sell them at over €500 a piece, you can see why this would be a bargain. There are other ones out there that cost about the same price, but they're only about 300-400 Watts and don't have the blender. Even the more expensive ones aren't as powerful.

it looks like a mixer, not a food processor though.

Well, Lidl describe it as a 'Silvercrest Kitchen Tools® 1,300W Professional Food Processor', I suppose the main part of the machine is indeed a mixer, but the fact that it has a blender too might be enough to justify them calling it a food processor.

Nope, I still cannot post links. But if you add the http, the colon, two slashes, three W and a dot in front of the link, and pdf at the end ;), it might work. If not, go to the Lidl website, go to Customer Service, and from there to Product Manuals. Choose English or your preferred language, and in the blank IAN field type 105590 and click Search.

Now, this is not exactly the same model (for instance, it's slightly less powerful than the one on sale on Monday), but it's close enough and it should give you a fair idea.

Actually no, that link doesn't work. Try with this - http://www.lidl-service.com/cps/rde/xchg/SID-CB9AA98C-A95132CC/lsp/hs.xsl/product.html?id=90650563&title=Professional+Food+Processor&count=1

EDIT - Yes, this one works, but then you have to click on the language you want.

That's what makes it so appealing to me, too. You'd probably be able to mix cement with it! :D

Me too, and I already used the blender - so far, so good. I'll try the mixer in a while, I'm just trying to decide what to bake.

I was a happy bunny 'cause I got the red one... then when I got home I realised it's the same shade of metallic red as my vacuum cleaner...

The OH is looking for one.
This is £80 in the North.

I am not a fan of Lidl electrical stuff, would I be better off buying one of these Kenwoods which are on offer at half price from Currys UK? (admittedly nearly x2 price of the Lidl one)

Well, the Lidl one is also way more powerful (1300 W), has a larger bowl (6 litres) and comes with a blender/liquidiser too (I don't know if all the Kenwood ones would have one as standard).

Personally, I've bought lots of electricals from Lidl throughout the years, including electrical garden tools, a mobile, and a laptop yeeeears ago which lasted way more than my current Toshiba, and I've always been very happy with the quality of their stuff. I had some issues with a combi-microwave I got from them a while back (it looked refurbished rather than new and had a problem with the timer/programme thingy) but I rang their Customer Service people and they sent a courier to collect it free of charge and a few days later, again by courier, the new one got delivered to my door, again free of charge - no hassle whatsoever. So even if something were to go wrong, you'd be covered pretty well all the same.

It would be nice to be given a chance to test these things beforehand, though, wouldn't it?

I just bought one and can't wait to get baking. Thanks for the heads up OP.

I don't think people should be too worked up by the wattage.
This a measure of the wattage that the motor consumes .
It could be just an inefficient motor driving the mixer.

I bought one of these a while back from LIDL.
It's cosmetically slightly different but 1300 watts.
I had to get it replaced as the motor burnt out after only a few uses.

It is fine for the occasional use, but I wouldn't like to be using it Professionally

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 77,359 Mod ✭✭✭✭New Home

Fair enough, yes, it could be a less efficient motor, but it could also be just a stronger machine - when I 'upgraded' from a 250W hand-held blender to a 700W one, the difference was staggering. Still, I'll put it to the test over the next few days, I'm going to bake some bread today, and maybe a cake or some biscuits tomorrow - I really do hope the motor will last longer than it did with yours... :/

Just out of curiosity, would you still have the IAN code for your machine? I'd be interested in seeing the differences between the two models. Thanks! :)

By the way, I cannot see the manual for mine on the Lidl website, yet - they might publish it in the next few days, I'd presume.

    How did you get on?

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 77,359 Mod ✭✭✭✭New Home

Hi there, I haven't baked any cakes or biscuits, yet, but the white bread came out nice, the best I've ever baked, which, in all honesty, isn't saying much 'cause all my previous attempts were pretty poor indeed, I'm usually luckier with brown bread. The mixer worked well enough, as noisy as I expected it to be, but not overly so. A bit wobbly, but again, that was somewhat expected considering it's not as heavy as the ones with the metallic body. The bread only needed 550 grams of flour, so I don't know how it'd behave with a heavier dough.

I have visitors tomorrow, so if I get my backside in gear I'll attempt a cake. I'll try and post some pictures then.

Have you tried yours yet? How did you find it? :)

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 77,359 Mod ✭✭✭✭New Home

So, quick update - the cake turned out absolutely gorgeous - even though the photo isn't great, and it only shows half of the cake... I must admit there was a fair bit of wobbling, and that I had to lift the mix from the bottom of the bowl a few times because the beater didn't reach all the way to the bottom of the bowl, and with that in mind I'd have to agree with CH3OH when he said it wouldn't be great for professional use.

All in all, though, I'm still happy with what I got for the price I paid for it. Hopefully the motor won't melt on me, like it did on a previous model for CH3OH... :/

You'll have to check with them, maybe if you ring their customer service number -see a few posts above- they might be able to tell you where to find one, if they haven't been all sold out.

    Hi Guys,
Sorry to drag up an old post but this particular mixer is on sale in LIDL again this Thursday. Now that you've had a chance to use it for a few months, would you recommend it?
I intend to use it mostly for mixing batches of bread dough, nothing too heavy. Maybe between 500g to 1kg flour per mix.

I'm quite happy with mine - it's not exceptional, but it's good for what I paid for it.

It does take up a lot of room, and it's as noisy as you expect it to be, but not much more than your average electric beaters.

The part where the arm is attached to the base seems to 'wobble' a bit when mixing heavier dough, but then again I've seen Kenwood models do the same - obviously the Kitchenaid ones with the metal body wouldn't have that problem, being heavier.

The only thing that annoys me a little bit with the mixer part of the machine is that, with lesser quantities, the whisks/attachments don't seem to reach near enough to the sides and the bottom of the bowl, and I have to 'lift' and scrape the mixture quite regularly - this probably wouldn't happen with larger quantities.

Also, be warned that the instructions say that you can't keep it working at a certain speed for more than a specified number of minutes or the motor will overheat, and it also specifies 'rest' times, which is something you probably wouldn't have with 'industrial strength' machines.

The blender part is superb, but I haven't used it as much as the mixer part.

Would I have preferred to 'road test' a few models before my purchase? Without a doubt. Would I buy it again, in hindsight, not having 'road-tested' any of them? Yes.

I'd probably give it a 7 or even an 8 out of 10, but that's comparing it to a Kitchenaid one, which is easily 5 or 6 times the price.

    Hi,
Thanks so much for the great reply, i really appreciate all the information as it's been tough to find reviews online. I have heard that mixing bread dough can be a strain on even the best mixers so I'm glad that this one does the job. I have a couple of days to make my mind up on this or hold off and get a K Chef of some description.

Aldi had a "premium mixer" priced at 200 but saw it at 150 today. Not on their site anymore but think this is it here http://aldi.medion.com/md16480/uk/?refPage=medion

Ah great jwwb, I'll have a look in the local one tomorrow and see if it's still there. If not maybe this one will do the job for a year or two.

I bought one last time they were available to replace my hand-me-down kenwood chef.
I used it a few times but wasn't impressed with the need for constantly scraping the bowl down. I never used the other attachment that came with it and it has been boxed up ever since. I'm tempted to put it on adverts if it wasn't so heavy for posting.
I have since bought a k-mix which is much neater and i am very happy with for my needs. The bowl on the lidl one is very large so may be better if you were making large batches.

    Back today at €69.99

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 321 ✭✭ani_mal

So, I always wanted to have one of those mixers
got one on sale for 69.99 Euro.
    happy days right?

So I made 4 attempts to use it for making dough.
    1. shortcrust - didn't work out had to scrape the sides all the times, there was plenty flour on the bottom of the bowl the hook didn't reach there either
    2. beating egg whites I needed 3- the same as above, didn't reach the bottom so didn't even reach my egg whites
    3. yeast dough- it took the mixer about 15 min to mix but still wan't done. and didn't mix the sides as well as bottom wasn't touched at all.
    4. blender- hmm will do. its not something I would highly recommend but for 69.99 euro I guess it is acceptable. Blender is VERY noisy and even after a minute fruit, veg or seeds weren't milled to smooth consistent form.
    5. the shield for the bowl, very flimsy in my opinion hard to fit it on as the arm has to be down all the way (so you don't have much wriggle space) and when arm goes up the shield has will come off/slide off.

Mine went back to the shop, I think I prefer better brands.
