I'd buy it, but I know i'd end up walking out with a dinghy, tig welder and an electric chainsaw instead. :(

Eurogiant has a regular supply of dash cams and the quality is good Think they are around 25€ ( does me anyway and there is a video on the dashcam saves your ass section from it.

They are starting to get quite common now, you can often see them mounted on a car in front of you.
At this price it should sell well.

Excuse the stupidity, but does that big screen stay attached all the time? I thought most dash cams were small, neat things?

2.4" screen is hardly big though.

Ya, but I thought most were like the size of a memory stick? Maybe I'm way off though. Do they all have a screen, or do some connect to a computer.

There are smaller ones on the market of course without the screen.

Reason for screen to be there, is to be able to watch recording on the spot, f.e. to be able to show to police at the scene of accident.

Useless in Ireland, but very handy in most countries, where blame for accident is being established on the spot by the police.

3 year warranty seems to be deal breaker.
Does anyone have anymore info on these?
    Whats the infrared receiver for?
Would it be the battery or capacitor type inside?
    Thanks

    Deal breaker or maker?

Not sure what the infrared receiver is about, I'm guessing it might mean the camera has IR LEDs on the front. If that's the case it could be a problem. I've not seen them on dashcam in some time as they are not suitable in that role.

And if it was for a remote control, that would be a semi useless feature so wouldn't affect a decision I think.

I've one with a screen about that size. I've mine mounted up behind the rear view mirror (between the windscreen and rear view mirror) with the power cable over the passenger sunvisor, down the A post, under the floor mat and plugged into the cigarette lighter. The screen is not distracting for me as its blocked by the mirror and the cable hasn't tripped anybody up yet. The beauty is I can take it out in a minute if I want to pop it into another car.

The reason for that arrangement is we have two at home that we swap between vehicles.

I'm sure this is a good camera but do we really need it?

This app uses a standard smartphone to do much the same job.

The apps are useless, they kill battery life, feast on your storage and will frustrate you constantly.

Not yet, I'll leave that job for my son when he gets home from work.

You can't read number plates with the phone not even when put on a laptop, I hope this dash cam will solve that.

I had to be in work for 9, so wasn't able to get to it until 4. I wouldn't mind but I pass 2 aldi's, said I'd leave it to the 2nd one before going in, as I thought there'd be lots.

Maybe there was some left, but I spent a good 15 mins searching. Couldn't find the price/label though.

They had them in the store room in my local aldi, you need to ask for them. I'm self employed so that helped.
