Sportage vs Qashqai vs Tucson

Hi everyone, going to buy one of the above cars new but finding it very hard to decide on which one.
Price is coming in very similar so that's not an issue so just wondering can anyone share some advice or experience on what they may have done in a similar situation or if for any reason I should stay clear of any of them.
It will be herself's car and we have 2 small children.

    Some details:
Sportage - half leather seats, 8' touchscreen with reversing camera and panoramic roof.
Qashqai - cloth seats, basic radio set-up, reversing sensors and panoramic roof.
Tucson - full leather seats, 8' touchscreen with reversing camera, no sunroof.

Any advice would be much appreciated as this will probably be the only time in my life I will be buying new.

What is your budget and did you consider Honda HR-V/CR-V or Mazda CX-3/CX-5?

Budget is 27k which all 3 are coming in at with the scrappage deal included.
Only really looked at these 3 but may price the other 2 as you suggested

Is it petrol or diesel engine you are after?

    Diesel

New Vitara is also a nice option.

The new Vitara is much smaller than cars listed here by OP. I would rather suggest Suzuki SX4 S-Cross 1.6 GL at E26.4k or Honda HR-V 1.6 I-DTEC ES at E28.6k.

The new HR-V looks particularly interesting in my opinion. It has a very nice and practical interior (big booth, magic seats etc), arguably the best small diesel engine out there and there is not that many of them on the road these days (something you can not say about qashqais in particular).

Big discounts on the Ford Kuga at the moment as well.
I drove a few of these when I was deciding what to buy this year and found the Kuga the easiest to get in and out of.

Of those 3, the Tucson is obviously the newest model, and it's nice to have something that's not everywhere yet.
The sportage is being replaced by a new model soon, so I wouldn't bother,
Historically the Qashqai has always had savage resale value. I do feel that it will be a victim of its own success eventually though. The new model is a fine machine.
I don't think you'd go far wrong with the Tucson or Qashqai.

Also with the Kuga you can get it with the rear middle seatbelt removed and it becomes a commercial enabling you to claim back the vat, if you are entitled.
Mitsubishi Outlander might be worth a look also.

    Thanks for your opinion.
It's the new model Sportage I'm looking at btw

Oh right. Didn't realise it was out yet!

That changes things. I'm assuming it's pretty much the same as the Tucson.

I do like a good panoramic roof, but since our baby came along its been closed most of the time. Leather seats are very practical with kids

Yea they are similar alrit and even built I'm the same factory but look different all the same.
It's just so hard to decide

Which one does your missus prefer? I don't think any if them are bad options.

Warranty wise, the Kia is 7 years /160k
    Hyundai is 5 years unlimited

Think the Nissan one is only 3 years/100,000km?

Do any of them come in a really class colour?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

if it's boiling down to colour; do you not think that the Qashqai is a bit "i've given up on life" looking. i'm not saying they are a bad car or anything, but they are the official car of "i'm playing it safe and following the crowd" or "i had two kids, know nothing about cars but needed something bigger than a Golf, so i bought this without too much thought".

not that any of them are ugly, but the Tucson is very good looking and first impressions mean a lot. it's a bit more like it was good looking first and practical second, where as you get the impression with the Qashqai that it's relatively good looks are merely coincidental.

Some nice colours in all 3 but funnily enough were goin for either black or white.
    White is 500 cheaper too

Brother bought the new Qashqai at the start of this. He says the fuel economy is unbelieveably good. Dealer he bought it from also flogged Hyundai but the saleman said he felt the Qash was the more economical car but there wasn't a lot between them.

What about the new Renault Kadjar. Same chassis as the Qashqai and something different?

Just bought a new Kuga for delivery in January. Tried the Kia,Nissan and the Hyundai but the Kuga was my preferred option. 5 year warranty and great deals available at present

Am I right in saying there's only halogen lights on the Kuga? Was looking at the pricelist and couldn't find anything in the options.

Edit. Just checked again and HID are there at 1200. I swear I checked twice since the price cut and the option never came up.

The kadjar is a Qashqai but without the resale value. They're not cheap enough to justify that IMO.

I got the special Titanium plus model and put a trade in against it.
I tried 5 different Ford dealers and the difference between the dearest and cheapest was €4000.00.
I paid €14500.00 plus my trade in ...Nissan wanted €22500 plus my car for a top spec Qashqai.
The Kuga is bigger has a bigger engine and looks better in my opinion.

WOW, that's a massive difference in price between Ford dealers so I should probably price around some dealers when we decide on a model.

I would have thought that when buying new all dealers would be the same price ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Difference was what they valued the trade-in as.
When you shop the country - Whoever makes a mistake gets the deal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 514 ✭✭✭argentum

The normal way for me to buy a car is to pick the model first based on what you need but not the price.( have a rough budget)
When you get down to the model I always try a minimum of 5 dealers if I can ( I'm in Dublin )
There is always a better price than the first quote and be prepared to walk away leaving a number .Its better to have the money in your pocket than in the dealers pocket

Just throwing this out there as something different.
    Jeep Renegade
    1.6 diesel 28K

Those renegades look cool, but they're a good bit smaller than the others mentioned here.

We supplied a Renegade recently, so had it here in the garage for a few days. Didn't drive it, but did go for a poke around, and it's surprisingly spacious. Very good leg room in the rear, and the boot is a decent size too.

I expected to hate it, but actually quite liked it. I did think it was a competitor to the Juke/Mokka though, so it is overpriced for what it is.

I would definitely have a look at the Honda HR-V Mazda CX3 and CX5. All will hold their value and very reliable.

In my opinion all are more attractive and the Mazda's are better to drive (haven't driven the Honda or new tucson).

Have a look at the Renault Kadjar and make your own mind up. It is getting great reviews and has beaten the Qushqui in tests against it too. I know its a little old but the Mitsubishi ASX is worth a look too. As for the new Tucson and the Sportage. I think the Hyundai is the better looking outside but the Kia has the better looking interior and better quality materials. Have heard the ones in the Tucson can scratch easy. Peugeot 3008 is another you could look at.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

The 27k with scrappage on thw base model xe nissan looks rubbish. We got a 151 new in jan sv trim but upgraded 8" screen camera and road safety pack for 27700 straight. Your giving your car away for nothing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

But a 1.5 SV is about €29500 with metallic and delivery. Scrappage comes off this price

    You need to push harder.

    Cash is king.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

But it's less than you paid for yours
    €25,500

What do you mean cash is king?
This is a deal specifically for trading in a car and cash is a pain for garages. They'd rather sell you finance.

We had no trade in and played 2 garages off each other. Our sv hav two packs the safety and entertainment. Sunroof wasnt an option on the SV last yr when ordering but we got ours for 27700 no trade. The wife loves it.

Panoramic roof is standard on the SV now.
