    http://www.rte.ie/sport/rugby/2015/1111/741148-tv3-secures-rights-to-six-nations-from-2018/

2 years left with RTE will be seen out.
Can't say Im super excited about this. However, wonder if the Panel / Commentating Team will change much from RWC line-up

Can't be worse than RTE- Nugent an awful commentator and Hook is a spoofer

This is very upsetting. Ryle Nugent really dropped the ball on this one.

What are RTE spending the licensing money on?

Rhetorical question. Its salaries of the employees.

Dont tv3 have the rights to the next world cup also?

I presume this is UPC throwing some money around to make its TV station a valuable asset.

So gaa will be the only sport that rte are going to show from 2018-2021. Roi soccer will be downhill by then if not considered already.

Where does this leave the autumn internationals ??

With the prospect of Daire O'Brien being the host on RTE, I welcome this.

Would love if TV3 went for Pro12 rights.

Niall Cogley, TV3 Group's Director of Broadcasting said: "In the last two months TV3 has been able to demonstrate its credentials as Ireland's National Commercial Broadcaster with a refreshing and comprehensive presentation of all 48 games in the Rugby World Cup.

We are gratified that the Six Nations Unions and Federations and their Executive team were sufficiently impressed by our recent work.

We very much look forward to presenting Rugby's Greatest Championship into the foreseeable future and making TV3 the home of rugby in Ireland"

Niall Cogley's head must be up his arse.

It's the ads and general cheapness of the TV3 coverage that gets me.

Matt Cooper is hopeless. Matt Williams is a George Hook wannabe. Keith Wood is alright. Jennings lacks personality and comes across a bit wooden.

If they got him and Pope, it could be OK.

But after the world cup, I reckon I'll be warching a UK channel.....BBC is it?

What are RTE up to with MY licence fee?

He was on ITV for the Rugby World Cup so he is not on BT exclusively.

I agree on Cooper - he shouldn't be let near any sort of Rugby broadcast - but the others I think are actually pretty decent. Wood knows his stuff and is quite likeable. Williams really knows his stuff and calls it as he sees it - not just there to stir sh1t up. I'd agree that Jennings is a bit wooden and sometimes a little too relaxed, but he's worth listening to. A bit of a kick up the arse and he'd be a great pundit.

The TV3 coverage overall is brutal though. Looks amateur and the commentary isn't up to scratch.

Ryle is doing a smashing job there in RTE, isn't he?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,252 ✭✭✭Redgirl82

Not sure what the complaining is about TV3?

RTE has been terrible for years. TV3 done a good job for World Cup after some initial problems and will invest.

Everyone I talked to have said TV3 for WC was good

    I am delighted for TV3

Only wish I could stop paying a TV licenses as RTE is sh*t and a waste of money

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,370 ✭✭✭pconn062

That is awful, awful, awful news. :(

If the RWC was anything to go by, the ads will be un-bareable.

Any ideas of the figures for the coverage approx that it would have cost? I can't find any figures of what RTÉ paid last time around.

I for one look forward to seeing how TV3 will try to fit 4 ads between the anthems and kick off

    back in 40 seconds folks!

Ryle is doing a smashing job there in RTE, isn't he?

I'm sure he's limited to the funds he's allotted by the DG.

What do people expect him to do? Or as per usual are they just looking for an excuse to take a shot at him?
This is extremely disappointing news for RTÉ. We have a long and proud tradition of showcasing the 6 Nations and putting our heart and soul into our coverage.

We want to assure the Irish public that every possible effort was made by RTÉ to retain these rights. As a public service broadcaster, RTÉ’s ambition has always been, and continues to be, to deliver the best possible viewer experience and to share moments of major national importance.

We put forward the best possible bid within our means, while always mindful of the significant responsibilities attached to spending public funds.

I thought those ads were done by all the other TV stations for the RWC?
