Hot water bottle

I've read a thread that mentioned there's a lot of serious threads, and thinks need shaking up.

See, the problem is, I'm not very good at lightening things up, as I'm a very, very boring person.

So, tell me, who else loves their hot water bottle just as much as me?

Is there anything quite as wonderful?

I really genuinely look forward to my hot water bottle. Moving it round the bed, sharing the heat. Cosying up to it. The comfort of it. It's just fab!

As you may guess, I sleep alone, and I guess a girl's gotta get her comforts some way, right?

I've currently just boiled the kettle and about to fill up me bottle, and have a snuggle with it.

Do you use one, and are you cuddling yours right now too?

Or do you have maybe a real life person to cuddle up to instead?

    Tough choice, eh? ;)

I'm a bit wild and don't have a cover on my hot water bottle, hot stuff indeed!

So I'm gonna toddle off now to fill it. This is so very, very boring, I expect I've sent you to sleep by now, so I could probably say whatever I want here and you'll never know :D

Ah but I wouldn't do that... I'm just too boring :P

Goodnight AH, and enjoy your snuggles.

One of the new electric blankets, pure bliss and no rubbery smell. Can amend the temperature to different settings, lengtht of time you want it on for, and it can be timed for an hour in the middle of the night. Great for ailments such as arthritis or sore backs. His side is never on just mine, and use it during the summer for when pain is bad. I swear am not that old but love my lecky blanket

Agreed. I was round at a friend's this evening, who never feels the cold, so her flat is freezing.

She turned on the heat in advance for me, but I was still skint, and was so looking forward to getting into bed with hot water bottle at feet.

What is she an Eskimo, I have to have to heating on for some couple of hours. Those evenings are chilly.

I don't quite understand it either.

I need my heat, and really notice if the heat hasn't been on.

Although she's told me how much her heating bill is compared to mine, so quite jealous!

Personally, I couldn't agree more. I mean, what a petty, boring, trivial, annoying thread full of crap.

Not even worth replying to at all.

Never need one. It gets nowhere near cold enough to need anything other than a duvet. I put the heating on low overnight if the lows are near 0-3C, and don't put it on in the day unless daytime highs are only 8C. I still have my summer (March-Oct/Nov) duvet on as it's not been cold.

That sounds delish! Where did you get it?

I am a fan of the hot water bottle, although I have to say that my apartment is quite well insulated so I haven't had the heating on yet. I have put on the "fire" often enough though in the evenings (it isn't a real fire, it just blows out hot air).

I have an electric blanket but the OH hates it and it hasn't been cold enough to use it yet. My favourite thing of all though is my electric blanket that isn't for the bed but you can wrap it around yourself on the couch, it keeps me so toasty - like being back in the womb again :p

I also have an electric boot for my feet. ( my parents like to get me these devices for Christmas and who am I to complain?) :p Ok, so I get cold easily. I haven't had to use these yet though because it is so mild at the moment.

Ah hot water bottles, the devils disciple. One burst on me once fado fado. I have a phobia against them now. Would rather a leperous midget with a temperature at my feet than one of those rubbery demon toe scalders.

I used to almost look forward to winter so I could use a hotwater bottle and all its cosyness.
But a few years ago we got an electric underblanket. Massive difference. Getting in to bed is like climbing in to a warm embrace. Bliss on a cold blustery wintery night.

I haven't used a hot water bottle since I was a kid but you've just made me realise why there would be no point at this stage. Being 6'5", my feet always hang off the end of the bed, and I can't sleep with my knees bent, so I'll never probably use one again (unless I get one of those Back To The Future hover-hot-water-bottles).

I suppose this could go into the 'things I'll never do' thread...

You have given me an idea. I am off to invent a bed extender with 'hot water bottle' function for tall people.

    Really?

My feet are out of the duvet from the getgo.

I think this weather, though fcuking miserable, driving wind and rain, is actually pretty warm once you're dry.

We have ours on one of those wall socket timers.

It is a bit sad that you know you will be going to bed at the same time every night of the week!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,707 ✭✭✭whatismyname

Nearly that time of night again folks :D

Was in the pub tonight, and sitting beside a big open fire, that felt like a massive hot water bottle beside me, and been looking forward to climbing into bed with mine ever since.

I've gotten through some cold winters because of electric blankets. One of the best inventions ever, imo. Timed to go on about an hour before you go to bed, and it's like having a cuddle with God.

I still use a hot water bottle too, for local heat. There's nothing like a hot water bottle for a sore back or a crick in the neck and a hot water bottle on the tummy is like giving menstrual cramps a kiss better, it's magical relief.

Haven't had a hot water bottle in years. I do remember as a kid them being great going to sleep but waking up during the night thinking there's a rubber bag of lukewarm pee at me feet which was kicked away furiously.

Hot water bottles are an absolute godsend for, ahem, gas pain. Lie on top of a hot water bottle belly down and the biggest fart will come out within a few minutes. Gas pain gone! :o

You do know that not everyone is living in the same place you are, and that the weather's not the same everywhere, right? And that some people can be quite cold even if its' warm outside? And that people use hot water bottles for reasons other than that it's cold weather?

I need my head examined anyway, but certainly not for this reason.

I've had times where it's somewhat warm, ,and I've occasionally still used my hot water bottle, just as a comfort thing.

Also annoyingly I've high ceilings, bit windows and storage heating, so my place can be hard to heat, so can really feel the cold getting in, could definitely feel it tonight.

    Brr.
