    Nice cars.

Whatever you do, make sure it has a Mark Levinson head unit and an electric rear blind or you'll never hear the end of it....

    :P

Stick up a link there and we'll get the ball rolling.

Tax for a year? Tax for 6 months more like. Maybe he has been trying to sell the car for the last 4 or 5 months already? And didn't update the text of the ad accordingly? Very few takers for a nearly 9 year old small exec €1080 motor tax petrol car. Not for that kinda strong money anyway. If you're interested go in with a low offer. A very low offer.

If you buy this, it is pretty much a given that you will upgrade to an IS-F within 12 months.

It has every option you might want in the car.

    I think not.

    How low is low?

Bit harsh I reckon. Car looks clean and well minded has loads of test and tax, very nice spec on it too and a good bit of recent work done.

You'll get a rougher one for maybe €6500 but you'd be taking this for €8k, won't get a comparable BMW or Audi for the same.

    Its worth 5k imo

Besides the brand, nothing noteworthy at all about them, hence the limited demand.

True, maybe slightly less. They are heavy on fuel too and not the fastest car in the world. They are reliable but for the running costs, would much prefer an Audi or BMW.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 577 ✭✭✭simdan

Just realised this is a 2007. Thought it was much later from the look of the photos. Its in good condition, but it's almost 9 years old. Its too expensive to run and tax. €4-5k max.

Depending on my sense of how desperate the seller is and how good I'd reckon the car is in the flesh, I'd offer maybe 4k-5k
    166man wrote: »

Nothing to do with being harsh. Price is the equilibrium of demand and supply. There's limited supply of cars like that but demand is near zero, hence the price will be low. Very low.

But that is all theoretical. The seller obviously doesn't get it that no one is going to buy his car for €8k or anywhere near it, otherwise he would have dropped his unrealistic price by now. Or perhaps he's in no rush to sell. Hard to say.

I understand the basic economics there chap, I do have an honors degree in the subject...;)

I think it'd be very harsh to offer €4-5k for s car like that. A comparable BMW 325 wouldn't go for that. Sometimes you have to pay more for the cleaner car in the better spec.

I actually am thinking of buying one of these as my next car and if that was the case Id be looking at that one. Might try to get it for a little less than €8k. If it's well minded and similar ones are around the 6-7k price bracket it's worth near to that imo.

You'd hardly go to view a €100k car and because it was a big powerful car with limited demand, offer €50k would you?

Read the post, stop making judgements based on my qualifications (I did damn well in college btw) and read the post, I'd be looking at slightly less than €8k. Still a reasonable price if it's a good car. The point is, I don't think he's dreaming.

For the second time, if it was a €100k car for a 5.0 V8/V10 something or other would you offer €50k simply because he has limited demand? Does that make €50k the market price?

Not getting involved in any dispute or anything, but yes. Market price is determined by what someone's willing to pay, not what the seller thinks its worth. If €5k is the only offer, then that's what it's worth.

    ??

Is this your car or something? Why are defending the value so much?

I sold my father's 9 year old Mercedes S500 for €5k. I'd was far better equipped and one of the best cars I've ever driven. A super car while sitting in a leather bound arm chair, Pure luxury! €5k was the best I could get for the car because of the running costs were high. The car cost over €100k new, doesn't mean it keeps that value. The people who can afford these cars, don't want an old car, they just replace them every 5 years or so. It's all basic economics.

I would like some more power but the car is as smooth and comfortable as you could ask for and having a real v6 petrol is good in an era of carcinogenic diesels.

I have had a garage offer me 6,500GBP for my 08 Lexus 10 year old cheap toyota for p/ex with the CL500., .

Lexus Toyota cars get good money if they are in good condition, the owner of the garage just walked around mine and sat into the drivers seat.

over 140mph and 8 seconds or so to 60 is hardly slow. Fuel Economy is as good as you expect for a 2.5 V6, you can easily get well over 400 miles on a full tank on long runs.

again more nonsense from someone who knows nothing about the car.

What are you talking about? I've had a 2003 IS200 and a 2007 IS250 so calm down mate.. Both gas guzzlers with a smooth but unentertaining drive. I've had a lot of cars, so I'm guessing have far more experience than you..

They are hardly gas guzzlers, if they were that bad I would have sold up.! a gass guzzler is a dodge viper......

Wrong engine size for the tax brackets in this country unfortunately. Demands a high tax without being that big an engine.. better off getting a bigger engine for not much more tax.

That is one of the best spec is250 i've seen lately and i've spent the last 6 months looking for a similar car on every website (>2.5lt executive saloon). I'd say it's worth max 7000 if it's in good nick. I'd offer 6500 for it myself, depending.

It's €1100 to tax an IS250 in Ireland going up to almost €1900 for top tax bracket cars. Usually above a 3.0 litre.

Check the rates at motortax . ie

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 577 ✭✭✭simdan

On newer cars after August 2008, the tax is based on co2 emmissions. Anything rated above 226mg of co2 is €2350 per year

Funny, a guy I went to school with, his dad picked up a 2006 S500 only recently for just over €8k. He's absolutely delighted with it, so if you sold yours for €5k, I reckon it's not the best deal you have ever done. :)

Lol, I said at the time, 5k was all it was worth(3 years ago)

So this story about your mate's dad's purchase just lowers the value of the Lexus. Why would you buy an is250 when you can get an S500 (similar age) for the same price?

Anyway. You rate the Lexus highly, so just buy it dude!

Dude, a S class is a different segment to a is250. Running costs will be significantly more and the Lexus is far more reliable.

The fact we are even comparing a is250 to a S class says how good a car it is if anything.

Haha, I'm not young and crazy enough to take a risk on either of these old cars for over 8k.. New cars are far more reliable, just lease with warranty for stress free motoring.

Thanks for the advice and more lols though..

not much point talking to you is there, I own an 'old' is250 and there are no adverse 'risks' involved - only a very well appointed and comfortable car. You dont know anything about them and are making ill judged comparisons to a totally different marque of a car.
