Will this work as extra storage for an Xbox 360?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,709 ✭✭✭wiz569

Ordered this myself earlier, chose free delivery as per normal, but estimated delivery date showing as 24th-26th November, anybody else get the same?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,383 ✭✭✭peckerhead

19 November for me. And it's GBP 50.22 with Irish VAT. Still pretty good for €72 or so, compared to €58.99 I paid for a 1TB Seagate in Argos last week... :(

I went on live chat with them about it as it should not take that long, at least it never did till the last few orders for me, the agent admitted there was an ongoing problem with the "free delivery" option and offered priority delivery for Tues at a cost of 2.50 GBP ,anyway sorry for dragging the thread off topic OP

Thanks biebiebie, just ordered one, €72.90 including free delivery between the 20th & 21st of November.

Not a great drive. Toshiba is not the most reliable manufacturer. Spend the extra and buy a western digital. Much lower failure rates.

Have to agree, Toshiba has a poor track record.

Hmm. This is my personal take on the Tosh vs the WD Elements 2TB for £68.

You can take this with a pinch of salt, it's not exactly scientific, but in my opinion a good comparison of real world first hand experience with these drives.

What I normally do for a quick comparison is to look at the percentage of 1 star reviews v. 5 star reviews.

    For the Toshiba, there are...
    813 x 5 star and 34 × 1 star .
    That relates to
    96% 5 star reviews
    4% 1 star reviews

    Next for the WD drive.
    823 x 5 star and 29 x 1 star.
    So we have
    96.6% 5 star reviews
    3.4% 1 star reviews

So for an additional 0.6% of 5 star reviews, you're forking out an additional £19 / €27

So with that analysis in mind, I'm happy enough with the Tosh and an extra €27 in my wallet to spend on another bargain!

Ordered for the Xbox One... buying lot more games as digital downloads compared to before.
Must agree with quality comments and if this was for precious PC backups I would've spent the extra penny for a WD high end but given it's for games it should do.
By the way, my first order using the new Parcel Wizard + Amazon Prime combination. Let's see how long it takes...
    Thanks OP

ALL drives will fail regardless of brand, best approach is multiple brands so you don't get stuck with bad batch, I'm storage hungry and have 18 drives, never had a Toshiba or Samsung failure, two Western Digital failures though...

Had 3 Toshibas and 1 samsung die on me. 0 WD deaths and more than I can count on both hands seagate failures. This is in the past 3 years.

ofcourse each brand has different grades of hard drives, the cheapest being the least reliable.

If anyone sees a decent 1 TB portable, the kind that will power and data off one USB please post it, looking for a cheap but good one urgently thanks.

By sounds of it, its the way the drives are being treated that's the problem to have that amount of failures.

    Edit : NVM found it.

You would be wrong. I take care of my hard drives as they are my business. I have over 50 hard drives right now spinning and about 5tb in SSD storage.

Will it work well to record/ function as a TV USB?

an ongoing problem with the "free delivery" option

Apologies in advance, but does anyone know exactly what the problem is with free deliveries?

I've had several problems with Amazon deliveries in recent months (deliveries supposedly disappearing) and was curious to know if there's something specific going on behind the scenes that Amazon are aware of.

Same here m8, I'm not sure what the problem is but there is definitely something up, any time I ordered from Amazon using the free delivery option I would always get a delivery estimate of approx 7-10 days, but the past three times it has been at least a 3-4 weeks, and one of those never arrived,

IMHO, I think they've changed delivery method, as the last time there was a couriers name on the dispatch email which I never noticed before

Yes, should do, bought a 2 TB Seagate for 60 Gbp for my Sony Smart TV and it works well, have a 500 GB on my Pan for last years and no issues. The new HDD is recording well and i have watched recordings despite Sony not providing instructions on how to watch recordings!

Are the estimated delivery times accurate for free shipping?

I'd imagine they are. From my own personal experience Amazon usually deliver before the estimated date. Perhaps they over estimate the delivery dates and then customers aren't wasting their time chasing up "late" deliveries.

Yes they usually are spot on tbh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,630 ✭✭✭gline

Cool, thanks for the replies. I Just ordered one today, the difference between free and standard shipping was 2 days for an extra 10eur, so I chose the free option.

Of topic a bit but i find those usb 3 connectors very easy to bend causing bad contact and leading to drives powering up powering off... Maybe contribute to drives failing sooner than expected.

Ill prob buy this but will not move it.

was about to post this but then thread was already created. Ya delivery should only be between 3-5 days but somehow it is 7-10days for me? Can only test when the drive arrives as how reliable it is. Hoping for this drive to be good!

That a pity for PS4 owners.
Will still be perfect for the Xbox One though, so if you bought it for that reason then you're on the pigs back.

Mine's also on the way. Should help speed up game loading times somewhat :)

You got it before the OP so! Haha!
Have you got Amazon Prime, or was it just standard delivery?

It was just free shipping I opted for, and I dont even know what Amazon Prime is haha, I havent used Amazon in years.

Happy with this drive, its really small and silent. Ran for 20 minutes continuous writing and it didnt heat up at all. I was running the copy over a network, so I havent tested the top speed of it yet, but speed wasnt the reason for buying. One bad thing is, the usb cable supplied is really short, like 0.3-0.5m, so I had to order a longer one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,630 ✭✭✭gline

Top speed 80-100mb/s over usb 3,copying from a raid0 system. Well worth the price. Thanks OP
