Tripod advice

    Hi.

After many years my lightweight Slik tripod needs changing and I was really looking for recommendations.

I shoot mainly landscape often involving a lot of hiking / scrambling so it needs to be light and tough. I appreciate that these requirements add to cost but I do not really want to spend too much.

I was looking at a Vanguard Alto 233AP but have never really read much about them not do I know anyone who has used one.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

    Thanks

If there's a lot of hiking involved then you should probably consider some carbon fibre legs. Lightweight and robust as well. You will pay a premium for them though.

Depends on how much you want to spend.

I would agree on the carbon fiber. The usual advice is to buy the absolute best you can afford, because a good tripod will last for years.

I use a Manfrotto 190CXPRO4. I've had it for years and find it really light.

The 190 series is really good in Carbon Fibre, however if you do a lot of trekking the smaller and lighter BeFree from Manfrotto will be easier to carry.

The Aluminium BeFree is under €200 and the CF version is just over €300 - both come in a tidy carry bag and include ball head with a quick release plate.

Thanks for the good advice. It has given me a bit more to think about but looks like I may be spending a bit more than I initially planned...
