Who else will play there if Wilshere is playing in Santis position?

Ramsey? He could play the box to box role and Wilshere could play as a DM. He's done it before and quite well at that.

Wilshere can play the "arteta" role as DM

Leave Ramsey play box to box

I was replying to the comment that Wilshere can play Santis position.

    Eta... Liverpool bahahaha

Jack isn't positionally strong enough to play the holding role imo. Not that the current iteration of Mathieu Flamini is much better. Given that Arteta and Flamini won't be at the club next year it'd be a good idea to get someone in for January with a view to challenging Coquelin longer term.

Vital we win next weekend to keep a bit of momentum going as I can't see anybody around us dropping points.

2nd if the league after not winning a game in the whole of November?

    Grand stuff

    :D

Really love to know where people are thinking Jack can play a dm role?

He ends up on the ground up the pitch more than any other player.

    A dm he is not.

Great for us over all. But really goes to show how poor the league is getting. But I won't be complaining if we lift the title come May.

The next few weeks are very important, going into January and if we're still a point or two behind or we a point or two ahead I be very happy.

If Ozil continues the way he's playing does anyone think he win Player of the year?

Well he got MOTM for England around 6 or 7 times playing in the DM, so I think he's more then able to play there. I think we undervalue Jack a lot on here.

DM is a mythical thing, it's become one of those roles that we seem to believe we can't play without. England don't have a DM, they have Jack at the back of a midfield diamond, and he does very well. England don't seem to leak a lot of goals, either.

I would view his role for England more as a deep-lying playmaker, similar to Santi.

He's been very good in the "role" (it's not exactly DM) for England.

Well if I'm wrong which it looks likely from the last few posts I'll hold my hand up.

But he played it with England a few times and done well in a piss easy group which made England look like world beaters again.

    I dunno I'm not convinced.

Jack wouldn't be a DM in the traditional sense. He'd be there too spread the play and keep us ticking over. I like Ramsey in the centre but from what i've seen he just doesn't have the same quick feet Santi or Jack would.

Too early to talk about the Jan transfer window and that DM we desperately need? Orrr...am I seriously seriously deluded thinking Wenger will take his hands out of his pockets?

I think we can get away without having a big strong defensive midfielder most of the time. It's not like Coquelin is the biggest of players, or wins much headers, but he still does tremendously well. In today's game, there aren't any giant centre forwards that hover around the pockets in front of the centre backs. Players these days that play that role are David Silva, Juan Mata, Fabregas, Payet, Özil, the list goes on. The only strong player that threatens that area would be Yaya Toure, who rarely plays there anyways.

It's a tactical game, which is why Coquelin has been so outstanding. Wilshere and Ramsey are both clever players, and I can imagine both players working well in a defensive attitude that would be reminiscent to the City game in January.

I'd definitely pick Wilshere over Flamini anyways, the Flamster is incapable of thinking what the team really needs of him.

Yeah Ramsey & Wilshere in the centre has been tried before and wasn't too successful, although you'd probably get away with it most times vs bottom half of the table clubs.

Long term you really need someone with positional discipline who'll know how and when to plug the gaps that our fullbacks and midfielders leave when then bomb on.

No coincidence the defence stabilized and results picked up when Coq came on board last season.

Looking forward to having Jack back though, felt we really missed him in games like Olympiakos at home when his driving give n' go runs could have gotten more from all that possession.

    Coq
    Rambo
    Wilshre - Ozil - Sanchez
    Walcott

I think the reason Santi, and Arteta before him have been so important in the middle is because in the past, we've needed the ball playing centre to do the whole conduit thing and help move the opposition around.

Nowadays though, I think Ozil is going to lay on 3/4 great chances per game no matter what you do so possession doesn't matter so much. Basically Monreal, Coq or Rambo feed Ozil and then everyone makes a run :)

I can't really leave Santi out myself but we now have to and with that I think the above is the team.

Just feels like were putting pressure on a player who isn't even back in the team of to come in and perform in a position which isn't his.

Doesn't feel right but feels like the arsenal way.

I wouldn't trust Wilshire at DMF at all.

    Turns into trouble a lot.

I know BUT the fans would turn turk if he doesn't buy this season. It's his last hurray definitely as he will lose them this time. He just has to.

We scouted neves again last night he seems to be a class player

Will Arsenal spend 30/40m on a player so young

Who is Neves ? Sorry :o

I see were being linked with your man Rabiot of PSG again.

Top prospect for Porto, think it's ideal for us as he is 18 something different to coq so leave them battle it out for the spot

I think Rabiot could very well happen as he wants a loan until end of season and that will prob suit Wenger down to the ground

Question; where does our creativity come from if Ozil were to be out for any length of time? Given that I'd have considered Santi to be his replacement (obviously bringing Ramsey/Wilshere in beside Coquelin/Flamini). Struggling to see who'd be filling the key passes/chances created void. :(

If Wenger is trying to fill our gaps with loanees then we are in trouble.
We require fully committed players on full contracts.
This covering your gaps with a loanee or two is just the cheap way and you rarely get a good player.
