What do you do to relax?

I've a couple of tv shows that I watch that just see the stress ooze from me.

My current favourite is Great Canal Journeys with Prunella Scales, and Timothy West.

I watch it, and envision myself and the OH just slowly cruising along, stopping at places of interest, mooring up in the evenings near a lovely place to eat, and just forgetting the world.

It completely transports me away love it :)

Depends - when the weather is good, I swim or cycle.
When the weather is bad, I paint or cook or read.

12 cans of Heineken helps me unwind.

    Furious and violent masterbation.

I instantly like anyone who precedes the word masturbation with the word furious.

    Frenzied is also good.

Watch snooker on TV. I love a really boring game, where Stephen Hendry is commentating and it's all really dull safety play and the players are too obstinate to re-rack and start again. I could watch that for hours. Especially if I've just taken a load of Xanax or Nurofen.

    Meditation. DIY. Cooking. Gardening. Running.

Failing all that - if still wound up - loud music in a locked room - fake microphone and microphone stand built out of carboard tubing - and sing like a lunatic imagining I am on stage.

Proper relaxation for me would involve a big greasy takeaway or maybe three with ice cream for afters whilst planted to the couch watching anything from cartoons to a series to a movie. Only time I truly unwind and forget about everything else.

Slipper socks, old rugby jersey and sweat pants.
Most important of all, taking the watch off and leaving it on the hall table, day's over when that happens.

Sitting on the couch, doing nothing with my cats next to me or on my lap :)
Their purring sound is the best way to wipe all the stress away.

    I read maps.

If you like maps this is a great resource
    http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/

Its not the same thing as a physical map though so if you like those you could try getting into the Map Library in TCD or the National Archive.

What there needs to be on Youtube is a 4-hour video of safety play. Not even dramatic safety play, just stitched together footage of dull relatively easy to make shots. Perfect sleeping aid.

Frenetic ain't bad either, with it's suggestion of both frantic and frenulum.

I would usually swim until I'm exhausted, but an injury has put paid to that for the moment. I read, voraciously. I watch mindless tv like Scream Queens or Come Dine With Me, and I window shop real estate since I hope to buy my own place soon. Sometimes I just clean, it clears my mind.

When I'm desperately stressed - like this last week - I listen to rain and thunderstorm sounds and try get into a meditative state. It's very soothing.

I like listening to stormy weather too lying in the dark and watching mindless TV. Another one is massage or shopping online, the last one is a bit dangerous.

I work , it helps me unwind , if I just do nothing I get depressed and morose , so I go working , it makes me enjoy my Sunday off even more if I have a few small jobs to do around the house after good hard week's work done

I can't stand spending any more than 3 or 4 hours on a day off doing nothing , so on my days off I always line up a handy job I can do in 5 or 6 hours and it makes me feel that I've done something but it's not really like working at all

Thank you! I actually already use this for work, but I have bought around 9 or 10 physical ordnance survey maps for fun purposes.

To relax, I ... need I say any more ? well I meditate myself a few times a week and also find astronomy and night-vision astronomy really great to relax looking at all the stars and planets I find very relaxing. Playing some light classical guitar tunes is very relaxing as well. The odd time sitting on top of a mountain for hours just taking in the fresh air and views is great as well.

All great for the body and mind.

Any match between Graeme Dott and Peter Ebdon should do the trick...

Going for walks in the night. I don't know, there's something really relaxing to me about walking in the night time. The stars and moon are out, and nice night time breeze on your face, assuming of course it's not too windy or rainy.

There's a lot of sexual chocolate going on here. Listening to folk rubbing and cleaning a cucumber is not relaxing at all, too much work.

Try it in a large forest at twilight or even dark with a torch and it's even better, especially when it's lashing rain but even better is when the forest is covered in snow.

Best way to relax is to enjoy ones fart with a beer, just wafting it towards the nostrils, especially after an Indian, bliss.

Oh I forgot to mention Tetrinet earlier. 6 Player tetris. I was introduced to it by another boards member last March. And I have been undefeated ever since. It seriously relaxes me when times are hard :)

A good long walk or cycle in the countryside.

Get lost in a good book, currently reading the latest offering of one of my favourite authors Lee Child.

Enjoy a good boxset...Tyrant is one I'm currently hooked on.

    Listening to music always relaxing.

Have only tried a hydrotherapy bath once...but that's hard to beat if you want to unknot the stress from your body.
