whippet very soft

    hi folks,anyone any ideas on how i could get my whippet x collie (1 year old dog)to not be so soft mouthed on the rabbits,he can catch them no bother,but only holds them by the fur,and by the time i walk up to him he walks away on the hunt for more,then the one he caught just gets up and runs away since he applies no pressure,i have managed to grab the odd one,and when skinned,there is not a mark on them,but i want him to kill, as i dont want live ones,,thanks all. (thats him there in the middle)

    I wonder if you ran him with another dog would he be so quick to give up the rabbit.

    Such a pity he's not retrieving to hand! Undamaged rabbits is what you should be aiming for!

    gonna try get him retrieving,i would rather him just kill,as i have a .22 cz that i use for head shots for the pot,maybe he might get harder,he is only 1 year old,here's hoping.

    Sniperman....A soft mouthed dog is a quality much sought after by Lurcher men!! Do not be so quick to want to "Fix" this....

    The whippet is by all accounts still young, and I understand that you are frustrated that he lets the rabbits go....

    However, My advice to you is DO NOT run him with another dog, this will ruin him if anything will....

    Sit back....Take your TIME...And teach him to retrieve with a fur dummy....I think with a little patience you will have a whippet retrieving what all Lurcher men aim for with rabbits.....

    I can't believe I'm reading this. You have a dog catching live rabbits, not even bruising them and you want to ruin it. Don't run him with another dog. As said get him retrieving and kill the rabbits yourself. If you don't want to do that give him to me.
