The IRA Army Council exists according to MI5

    http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/army-council-oversees-sinn-fin-and-ira-provo-members-believe-34127378.html

Surprised there's been no AH thread on this already. So apparently the IRA army council still exists (shock, horror). The article also suggests that the council "oversees" Sinn Fein. Surely Gerry et al. can no longer continue with their ridiculous denials after this?

Things look even more bleak for power sharing up the North now, but do we think this will this have an impact of SF politically in the South? I'd suggest that the "average" SF supporter probably doesn't give a toss really, we all kinda knew that Gerry was being a bit mean with the truth shall we say.

    Discuss.

Did anyone really believe that the ruling councils of any of the loyalist or republican paramilitary groups just disbanded themselves?

So an MI5:report told the rest of us what we always knew.

Glad to be informed. I wonder does Gerry know, he keeps on denying it!

I am old enough to remember what it was like when they were in full effect on this island and in the UK

I never want that situation back so you have to accept certain things in return for relative normality

    not easy

Ah this one is easily brushed off though. MI5 are an agency belonging to the imperial scum. West Brit Enda Kenny has been chatting to his masters in London, who've directed MI5 to release a report as part of a smear campaign against Sinn Fein because the Irish and British Governments are terrified that Sinn Fein will win a majority in the upcoming election.

There you go, the bots would be proud.

    You're spot on! Had a quick nose at the Shinner Facebook page and it's hilarious to watch these brainwashed fools squirm. I quote;
"The government is behind all this they are running scared prick Kenny and his hence men heads up gerry Adams Mary lou." LOL
Very few middle class Irish people are going to vote for these crowd, they've been torpoed badly.

It's quite terrifying to think that there's a political party in the Republic who are beholden to the decisions of a bunch of scumbags in Belfast on an 'army council'.

People have been voting for such a party for years. Had you not noticed?

SF support will soon be back to the hardcore 8%-12% level.

Their much heralded 'breakthrough' was nothing more than a mirage of disaffected voters casting around during the mid-term of an Austerity administration.
It has melted away like snow following the thaw of recent economic upswings.

Recent announcements regarding their private grubby little army will merely accelerate what is happening anyway.

We can only hope. They're still at 19% in the polls which is scarily high. A lot of deluded young people seem to be following them.

He should've had a word in Noirin O’Sullivans ear too I suppose, as she seems to have not got the memo.
However, the Garda report says there is no evidence of ‘military departments’ in the Republic.
It adds: “There is clear evidence that a significant number of persons who have been associated with the PIRA remain criminally active, particularly in organised crime, and continue to associate together”.
“They make full use of their ‘legacy’ reputations and in some cases their former terrorist tactics.”
However Gardaí have found no evidence that criminality is directed by leadership of the organisation.
In a statement Ms Fitzgerald said: “Taking that into account, and inevitable differences of phrasing, there is very substantial common ground in the findings. Most importantly, there is a common assessment of the reality of the security threat posed by PIRA.”

Thankfully, most of their support comes from the sectors of the electorate that are poorly educated and in the lower social-economic groupings.

These voters have rarely managed to drag themselves off the barstool and down to the polling station every half-decade.

While they've always appealed to certain wannabe fringe-radicals of the student population (most people who've attended 3rd level have all encountered such desperate individuals), generally when these people mature (and more importantly, start paying taxes) they see the empty promises of the hard-left , tax & spend parties for what they are.

You're playing county hurling now, horse. Turns out that a large proportion of the electorate really don't like the idea of a political party ran by a bunch of 'community activists' based in Belfast. The economic illiteracy only compounds the feeling that SF are a pox on the spotty arsehole of Ireland.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,299 ✭✭✭✭The Backwards Man

Doesn't matter a jot, the three D's that will always vote for SF will still vote for them nontheless. The Dangerous, The Duped, and The Doolally.

    not easy

I don't know if you just remember or actually had to live with their actions. Likewise, nobody wants to go back to those days but some of us still have to live with their robberies, smuggling, theft, punishment shootings and murder in our areas. And that's without getting into the dumping of toxic sludge on our doorsteps and intimidation. Those things I can't accept.

IMHO a large proportion of the electorate are fúckin idiots who would happily vote for a corrupt and economically illiterate party tomorrow and I'm not even thinking of Sinn fein supporters when I type that.

No, that was MI6 - MI5 are the internal security service of the UK.

MI5 actually said Iraq was no threat to the UK, and briefed Blair to the effect that invading Iraq would likely increase the terrorist threat to the UK........so maybe they do know something ;)

If the Army Council knocked on your door with a SF badge in one hand and some semtex in the other, identified themselves as the IRA Army Council and asked you to vote for Sinn Fein - would you even believe it then?

I think you'd be on here saying "Enda Kenny disguised some lads as the IRA Army Council in order to bash Gerry Adams"

The IRA council will always be there....to think they all got new jobs because mcguinness etc now have a chair at the northern table is ridiculous .... There is a time frame in what was agreed behind the scenes and if they dont get what they want, then.........

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 241 ✭✭Stranger Danger

Although the Shinners are no threat to us this election (and in my view, the next one too), the price of our democratic freedom is eternal vigilance to prevent these violent fanatics and economic illiterates ever seizing power in our State.

As time passes and memory fades, the electorate need reminding every so often of the scourge of violence visited on this island by IRA/SF and it's followers.

    http://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/gardai-find-no-evidence-of-ira-army-council-meetings-in-the-republic-701653.html
A Garda assessment has found there is no evidence of the IRA Army Council meeting or functioning within the Republic of Ireland.
