People that skip queues!

On a fairly regular basis whether I am queuing for the bus or waiting in line at the work canteen for my tea women will skip the queue.
The usual thing that happens is they see a work colleague near the front of the queue and they will just waltz on in.
With the bus it generally is more blatant positioning of themselves so that they either get on the bus first or essentially will be in everybody’s way.

As I listen to angry feminists spout venom about sexism in the work place I realise I too am guiltily of sexism for allowing this to happen.
Next woman to do this I feel I should say:
“Hey sorry, excuse me… Are you not aware the queue starts over there? Oh you are? So you’re just an @rsehole then whose time is more important than everyone else’s?”

    Rant over :D

I would definitely call anyone -man or woman out if they skipped the queue.

    The height of bad manners.

I generally find men don't do it, maybe because a man probably will have no issue calling out another man.... I dunno.

Awkward to call in out in work with colleagues and management around. I find drunken taxi ranks to be the worst. Some sloshed young one stumbles over with her gaggle of harpy like friends and tries to jump in the taxi that just pulled up. The taxi which I've been queuing for for 20 minutes. Hit the road love, not a ****ing chance.

The one thing that really p!sses me off is when eldery men or women is in the queue for the bus/train they automatically think they have a 'right' to jump ahead of everyone else. [not sayin they're all rude] but some are. One time I was on the bus. I'm visually impaired. And I got told I was selfish by some random old person for not givin up me seat for her! She could obviously clearly see I had a white cane in me hands! But me being the kind person I am, I got up and gave the woman me seat and yet the old bag continued to have a go at me!

Or a male queue-jumper knows there a good risk of a boot in the arse.

Or when you pick a queue based on shopping size.then their friend comes over somehow magically carrying a shopping trolley full of sh!t in their arms and doubles the time you have to wait when you could have been served ten times over in the other queue. Grinds my f%&king gears.

girls are 100% the main cuplrits! from skipping q's at taxis, niteclub toilets and late night take aways to name but a few! would never dream of doing it myself.

I haven't noticed it with women. I do find old people are terrible for queue skipping though. I suppose they have less time left and don't want to spend it queueing, but still!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭jester77

Don't be so soft... "Sorry, end of the queue is back is here" and a pointing motion in the general direction is all that is required.

If they kick up a fuss then the people in queue will always back you up.

Queue-jumpers are arses. Never found the phenomenon, generally speaking, to be dominated by either gender.

Seems rather inflammatory to make a derogatory comment about one gender and then to pre-empt understandable objection to it as "ultra feminist".

Old people are worse than any specific gender OP. I'll happily give up my seat on public transport for an old person or whatever of course, given that I'm not that much of a ****, but they're quite often rude, they barge right past you even though you were there first, right load of bollix.

Sympathising with families at Funerals can be another hotspot fo queue jumping. Walking across graves at burials is another thing you'll see people doing just to get up the line faster. Ignorance of the highest order in my book. Show some respect.

We only ever notice the people who do these things, we don't notice the countless others who don't - because our attention is never drawn to those that are behaving in exactly the same way that we are.

So someone sees a couple of older people skipping queues, and misses the other ten older people who waited patiently in line. People might notice the couple of women who didn't thank them for being let out in traffic, but don't take into account the ones (like me) who always do. And so they attribute the actions of a small noticeable few, to an entire grouping.

Very odd way to think, imo - and most certainly the way a minority of individuals think, rather than the majority. Thankfully.

I disagree but then it will depend on everyone's environment.
I commute to work early I generally find everyone I commute with in the 20 - 50 age group.
Company I work from I have to say is about the same age group with the 20s to mid 30's dominating.

I would say in any given month a woman will skip the queue in the canteen perhaps 2 or 3 times while i am queuing, again using the whole chat and skip technique.
It happens a little less frequent on the bus.
But I have never witnessed a bloke skip the queue in either.

Buses are generally a pile up by the door business here, and usually the older (middle aged) people manage to sneak their way in just by going to the not busy side of the pile up. I'm not sure why they think it's more beneficial to get on the bus early: then you end up with randoms who come and sit down next to you (me included) and you're stuck sandwiched in by the window. Oh well.

More frustrating are the able bodied people who don't give up their seats to less able people. It annoys me to no end.

Concerts or festivals. Mainly young 3 foot tall girls (sometimes young guys). I patiently move through the crowd to get a decent position. In a group of 3 usually, they'll plow past me or push me forward to get a better position. There's no room and yet they keep pushing and pushing and PUSHING AND ****ING PUSHING ... WHERE DO YOU EXPECT TO GO YOU DUMB ****, THERE'S NO SPACE. STOP PUSHING ME, I'M NOT GOING GOING TO GIVE YOU MY SPOT.

I was involved in an incident as recently as Saturday night with a very irritated Nigerian woman who decided that Queuing was not for her, or her very scruffy Irish mate (both around 40yrs old)...

    back story...
so its the wee hours of Saturday night/Sunday morning so the good wife and I decided to get a bag of chips in the chipper after we spent the evening drinking with friends for a Birthday party.

the chipper is pretty full with the Que going around the perimeter of the walls, and up to the service counter.
in walks our Nigerian 'friend' and her stinky buddy and decide that the top of the Que looks better than the back; and proceed to shout their orders at the staff.

my wife politely highlights that there is a Que to which she turns her head a scoffs, and continues to try and make an order.
I again tell her to get back to the end as there is a Que - to which a reply comes back ' No I've placed my order'

Its then I tell her 'no you have not and Que like the rest of us'..

Out comes a waving finger and...
"HEY FCUK YOU, I PAY YOUR FCUKING TAXES"

    Don't ask.. i haven't the fooking foggiest either.

Then her smelly friend decides to weigh in with her finger waving waffle, but my goodness the smell of Billy Ocean off the girl  made the both of us nearly puke.

I politely highlighted her issues with body odour, and again told her where to get off, as at this point they both seriously pissed me off with the they way they spoke to my wife.

thankfully a member of security came and ejected them both soon after, and one of the counter staff told us fair play, as she is known to be a right C u Next Thursday.

    THE END.

I've been living in Asia for almost 4 years and it's a nightmare here! Even in Japan, where they have the reputation of being polite, it's bad.

    Don't even ask about China!!

But I can't believe how many people are saying that it's mostly women who do this. The few times that I can remember it happening in Ireland, it was always men. Maybe it's because I'm female and they think a woman won't speak up?

I also can't believe that it seems like a lot of people posting here don't say anything. A bus queue is different but otherwise, I never let it go.

What reason would you have for not saying anything? Fear? I'm genuinely curious.

If it happens in the work canteen, calling out a colleague you don't know is something you need to weigh up.

Embarrassing someone to later find out they control whether your contract is renewed is not a good place to be..

Was in Aldi at the weekend, a scruffy looking guy called out the name of a women that was in front of me and asked if he could go in front of her, never mind the 4 or 5 other people after her in the queue. He only had two large bottles of cider so i wasn't going to say anything. He through some coins at the cashier and left, she counted the coins and he had left her a euro short. The poor women he knew looked very embarrassed but wasn't her fault.

Just remembered another time when i was the queue skipper!

Was at a charity dance night, one of those ones where it's like strictly come dancing. It was in a local football club i had never been in. Walked up to the bar and there were a few people at the bar not many so i stood at the bar and waited.
They were very slow at serving but eventually i got served then i turn around and see two massive queues either side of me, now i'm pretty sure the queuing system hadn't started when i got there but some guy proceeded to have a go at me and wouldn't listen to a word i said. Put me in a bad mood until i seen all the terrible dancing later on.

Dont get me going on people who skip the queues.

IT is always old people when i am queueing for the train or the bus. I could be the 1st in the line and about 5 or 6 old people come and push you of the way by push i really mean push you.

Once i was in a shop on Xmess eve buying a book and there was a long line so i was in it a good 10 min to buy the book and this old one comes along and skips me and puts her stuff up on the counter i told her get to back you very rude person.

Same in banks and post offices old ladys and men think they have the right to skip the queues and push them way to the front. One day in the bank a old lady was trying to skip everyone and i kept moving side to side so she would not be able to pass me and skip me.

I know we have to get old but why do you have to get so rude when you do ?.

I accidently skipped the queue the other day, I was in Lidl and there was a half empty conveyor belt.

There was a trolley with stuff but it wasn't in the queue exactly, it was more away nearer the shelves and noone with it so I just assumed it was that deal when people work there do that thing where the scan in a trolley and then put up how much cheaper it is than Tesco.

Just as I started putting stuff on a young fella rocked up to the trolley and I was too embarrassed to turn around when I realised what had happened. 😞

Sorry Lidl shopper dude, I didn't mean to be a dick.

Agreed, Chip Van's however are the worst as there usually is no queue just a mob and drunk fulled madness.

However I do not mind this as much as it's chaotic you know what to expect, the queue is a societal construct of fairness, the pinnacle of order in chaos, and some f##er decides to sh1t all over that????

Was queuing to enter the US one day and there were a few Americans in the queue in front of me when a few more decided to skip past everyone and join up with them.

"Excuse me, there's a queue, and it's for everyone," I said to them.

"But we are travelling together as a family," one of them said and then they all promptly turn their backs on me.

"That doesn't give you the right to waltz past everyone and skip the queue," I said them.

    They all ignored me.

With that a security guard comes over, having seen what happened.

"Are you all American citizens?" he says to the family of assholes in front of me.

"Yes, yes, we are," came the reply as some of them turned to sneer at me.

"Ok, well you need to go to the queue over there, this one is for non-Americans" said the guard.

Cue red faces galore as they all had to leave the wrong queue and go to the back of the proper queue.

    Tossers.

That was not queue-jumping. Your man obviously forgot something and went to get it. Fair dues to him for not emptying all his shopping on to the belt before heading off - now THAT is annoying and is a regular thing in Aldi/Lidl.

It's the law. When we turn 60 we have to give up sense of humour, our hygiene and the ability to even think sex let alone get horny. It's a cruel day for us all.

On the plus side we always get a seat on the bus and get to piss off everyone younger than us...and pinch cheeks, that is a favourite of mine.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

It's horrible when people try to be nice, isn't it? I mean you're just getting settled into a good old misanthropic moanfest of a thread and someone comes along and points out that sometimes people are actually alright.

Where's the hate these days, I mean honestly?

By the way, "many is the time" is not a phrase in the English language and it wouldn't mean what you think it means if there was.

Just to get things back on a negative track.
