You'd be better looking if.....

I was just thinking about the time I lived with a fruitloop obsessed with her appearance and projecting sh*t onto others. She would always be going on about MY appearace, why it concerned her I will never know.

I remember her saying to me, you'd be better looking if you lost some weight. Wha'? She also commented on my eyebrows and how they hide my eyes. I have thick eyebrows, I get them shaped and usually get nothing only compliments about them. I'm not into HD brows or whatever, I just like them shaped. Your wan had these tiny skinny brows, not for me but I'd never comment on them.

I mean if you don't like me or I'm not for you, jog on. I'm me, I'm not changing for anyone and I'm pretty fcuking happy with how I look. I know I'm not for everyone but I'm from some people, I'm for me.

So has anyone ever said you, you'd be better looking if:

    You were skinnier
You were taller (Yeah, I'll just get me knees done, wha?)
    You cut your hair
If you didn't have 12 tattoos and a mohawk
If you did have 12 tattoos and a mohawk

Other than my mum no-one's said anything like that to me (isn't that what mums are for?). Generally regarding hair cuts, make up, and clothes.

Personally I think I'd be better with a less gummy smile.

Yeah that's all well and good but people have different preferences. For every person who doesn't like your hair and your gummy smile, you'll find someone that does. So really, it doesn't matter. And it's what you're happy with at the end of the day. My sisters are obsessed with fake tan and would be at me to put it on going out. I think I look fcuking ridiculous and so do other people. I wore it for a hen night and I had to go into work with on and so many people were like 'Jaysus Christy, are you doing an advert for ronseal?'

You have a lovely smile btw.

    I'd be better looking if....

    1) I didn't gain 2 stone in the past year and it would be gone if my area wasn't so dangerous that I can't go for a walk :(

    2) I didn't break my nose when I was a child and will have to get plastic surgery to fix it.

    3) I had the patience to put on make up everyday!

She would always be going on about MY appearace, why it concerned her I will never know.

The world would be better looking if people would keep their unsolicited opinions about other people's appearance to themselves. Unfortunately, I think everyone's had that said to them-- particularly, as one poster mentioned, by their mammy.

I've had comments about everything from my hair to my shoes (and a few points in between, as well). I wouldn't pay any heed unless it's constant, in which case you really need to either:

    a. take a bit of a look in the mirror, or
    b. surround yourself with different people.

How do you know I havent got the worst news of my life 10 minutes previously!? Ok, a tad dramatic, but still, go away.

Cant stand when people seem to give everything they see around them a running commentary. Just shut up!

I've lost a bit of weight due to taking up exercise recently, and a "lady" at work made an unsolicited comment a week or two ago on it - something along the lines of "you'd want to make sure you don't lose any more weight". Somebody nearby, who knows I've started running, mentioned that I was running, and she proceeded to go on a RANT about how everyone was gone running-mad, and what's the world coming to work people taking exercise too seriously etc etc.

I was very tempted to ask her would she have commented if I was female and was putting on weight (I'm fairly certain she wouldn't have) but I've more to be doing at work than handling the drama that would have no doubt followed. Some people are just so bloody pass-remarkable, though!

Anyway. Fingers crossed it doesn't rain, as I'm heading out for a run shortly :)

Nah, it's generally compliments I get. Most people are nice and I don't live with your wan anymore. Family do comment from time to time but I don't pass any heed and they generally say nice things as well.

An amazing number of people can't differentiate between subjective and objective attractiveness. They think that their opinion on a person's attractiveness is an incontrovertible fact rather than a subjective preference.

Usually if I dressed differently. I have a kind of tomboy/hippie style and don't tend to show much flesh. I remember once in college I had a skirt on for a night out, and the guy I'd moved into a houseshare with that week took the time to tell me that I'd a lovely pair of legs and I really shouldn't be afraid to get them out more often.

Now obviously I would have been skipping around in mini-skirts the whole time if it hadn't been for the fear that they wouldn't meet with male approval, seeing as the only thing that goes through my head when I'm getting dressed is 'I wonder if that flabby gobshíte downstairs will find this attractive'

My sister used to always tell me I was overweight and I should really start exercising. One day I bought an exercise machine and her first response was "where are you going to put that? There's no room in the house for it". Stupid fucking cunt.

I always think when someone points out that I'd look better if I lost the weight -

"I would only be losing weight to conform to your comfort level then, whereas experience tells me that there are far more people who find me attractive in spite of the fact I'm a fat bastard. I try not to question these things" :D

    I get that a lot. A really lot. :(

Someone said that to me as I sat outside a hospital getting some air and a break from sitting with a dying relative.

I got a lot of comments on my clothes from a woman in my office, who looked like a Sarah Palin wannabe. If you don't like my Turtles t-shirt, I don't want to know and I don't care.

    Yeah me.

I tell myself all the times the reasons why / how I could be better looking.

If you didn't eat so much crap.

If you got your hair cut more often.

If you could be arsed getting your eyebrows 'done'.

    Etc.

I often got comments from my mother, that I'd look better with my hair up or down, or with different clothes, and my relatives still tell me that I'd look better without all of that metal in my face :D

To be honest though, not many people have really commented on my physical appearance in a negative way since I was a teenager (though they did enough of it then to last a lifetime). Now, if I get a haircut or for example when I lost weight, I've had friends say to me that I look good, but they wouldn't have said that I needed to do it, they probably thought it but didn't want to be rude and say it until I did something myself.

Contacts scare me. There are too many unanswered questions involved.

What if I fall asleep with them in, will they get stuck in the back of my head and make my dreams look bigger in my sleep?

Will my whole eyeball come out if I'm too rough??

Will I leave fingerprints on my eyeball???

Will it get lost under my eyelid if I roll my eyes in exasperation????

Will they fly out if I sneeze?????

No, too risky for me. :(
