FP1 underway after a roadsweeper spilled some diesel on the track.

    This too shall pass.

I won't rule out a Vettel victory this weekend.

What kind of a track is it? I was away last year and didn't record or watch any repeats, just read the result.

Cheers. What your opinion, and everyone elses, on it. Did it throw up a good race last year?

I only can remember a very boring race, maybe it is good that teams now have less time to prepare for the track, I also think the tyre choices are more aggressive this year with supersoft and soft, compared to medium and soft last year.

Was there nearly no tyre wear at all last year?

Think ill be giving this one a miss.

Poxy track and predictable result really.

Not sure what's wrong with the track. How shocking that once the order settles into the fastest being in front and there's no reliability issues that the race is "boring".

Yes, Rosberg killed his soft tyres in the first corner, changes to mediums at lap 1 and finished the race on them without any issues. No idea why people prefer this over degrading tyres.

Jesus that Sainz crash looks bad. :(

Does look unusual the way the techpro ended up

    And not many skid marks

Slightly slow response with not much happening for minute or so

    Hopefully he's okay

Ominous indeed. I hope this isn't another Bianchi. They're not showing replays of it either.

Session not restarted, and as they switched away when the workers at the crash site got hectic is not a good sign. Ah no hurry but precautios to secure his head to extract him.

That was some shunt! Could you imagine if those techpro barriers were not there.... they appear to have absorbed a massive amount of energy.

Questions being asked now as to why his car lifted and went under the barriers..... Gary Anderson raising the point about the new ramp noses wouldn't help the situation.

Sainz was concious all time around and shut the car down himself, and it will be free by the team to start the race tomorrow if the doctors give green light but won't take part in quali.

So how many seconds of coverage will Force India and Sauber get in the race?
Maybe Ferrari will be in Bernies bad books too due to the engines.

Rosberg on pole for the second race in a row. How was Hamilton's lap before he went off?

He was a bit off anyway so I'd say Roaberg was safe. Just one of those weekends where Rosberg seems to have an edge. Will see how the start goes tomorrow anyway.

Bit off topic, GP2 race red flagged with some crashes on first lap... delays with repair to techpro barrier, was going to be a dark race anyway with sunset but delays might make it worse

cycling distance etc tracker based on strava.

Rosberg needs to get tough at the first corner.
Hamilton time and again runs him off the road and there is nothing about it.
Yes he claims to be understeering wide but in my opinion, hamilton had to allow a car width once along side.

With Sainz's FP3 crash too, it seems the techpro barrier is causing hassle for the circuit management when one gets hit. All I can say is, come the race for tomorrow, if any driver hits one it'll leave it in a state that they'll have to have a physical safety car or red flag it. Those barriers can't be left in a misaligned position when hit, and they are not easily put back in place when they are. It should get eventful tomorrow.

Video here shows the way the barriers link together with belt passing through them

In Monaco they seem to just push them back into place after a hit but today the impacts seemed to do a bit more damage

Can someone tell me what time the race kicks off at today? I have to work for a few hours this AM and my cheapy Saorview doesn't tell me what time later programmes are on at, except on RTE.

My predictions for the race today, Hamilton into lead on first lap with Bottas second and Rosberg has fight back to second.

According to BBC, Rosberg's throttle started sticking a few laps ago. He tried to cope with it but it became unsafe. It might have been fixable, but not quickly, so ... box.

interesting that none of the leaders came in

hopefully barriers dont need any repair

Safety No. 2. Interesting that none of the top 4 pitted on lap 11. One stop ideally at lap 20. Plenty going to happen in the next 10 laps!!
