Third party router/cable modem with UPC(Virgin)

    I've recently moved into a home and gotten UPC. The router/cable modem is awful and I'm having a lot of problems with it.

    does anyone know of any decent third part router/cable modem combos that I could use to replace the equipment myself? Am I stuck using it?

    You're stuck with it. However. Depending on your make / model of modem and the software revision on it, you may be able to bridge the cable modem allowing to use a standard wireless router.
    Might be of use to you.. Seems v2 or 6.2.11 you are unable to change the functionality of the modem even via SNMP
