Pedantic is the word for that above .... errr .. being deputy leader of a political party is not the same as being Tanaiste, errrrr it was announced that Tanaiste and minister for Justice was Frances Fitzgerald at about 18.30 hrs or so ,long before 20.05 hrs ... and a medical practise with 4 doctors is fairly large and a very large number of medical card holders, due to the fact that a village of just over 2,500 people grew to a population of near 6,000 people in the boom year's,and probably a hell of a lot more ,with the local people fighting ,like every other community in NCD for every scrap of social investment it could get , because politician's had not learned from the 70's and building housing without amenities.
James Reilly might be a lot of things to different people, but he was/is a fine GP,who served the community here damm well before ,Lusk became a mini town, without half the amenities that other centres of populations of equal size have, and that the independent's gave their vote's for to secure for their own communities.

I know they're different - however, it has been stated in the media that she is likely to become deputy leader as well. Having a non TD as deputy leader is insane, and will not continue. If its not within days it'll be within weeks.

A surgery in a town of 6,000 is not particularly big, neither is one with 4 doctors. You can take a look at the medical card income statements for the years before he sold to see that.

Only an hour to go, until we ''might'' get a Govt.

So what of Dr J Reilly.

After collecting his salary, for being a Temporary Minister, while not a TD, and after collecting his ''disappointment money'' for failing to get Elected, does he

    Return to his medical practice
    Retire to his Country Pile
    Live on the South Beach.
    Return to Property Development

    Thoughts??
It was mentioned in last Saturday's Irish Times that James Reilly is interested in being appointed to the Seanad (one of the 11 Taoiseach nominees).

The article also mentioned that he is in process of returning to his GP practice.

Their is a similar interview in this weeks Fingal Independent,I was thinking the Seanad was an option, but have the 11 Taoiseach nominees been appointed yet?.
He does seem very upbeat ,and say's he is looking forward to returning to general practise.
No doubt,we will hear one way or another in the not too distant future.

Well I see this week's North County Leader lamenting the fact that Dr James is gone and that for the first time in years Fingal does not have a minister at cabinet level.
Their article points out how the Ministerial presence of James Reilly was responsible for the selection of Balbriggan as a site for a new Primary Care Centre.
Even though it caused a political storm at the time, a determined Reilly was undeterred and the primary care centre is now regarded as a vital project in the redevelopment of Balbriggan town centre.
They talk of Alan Farrell as a contender for a junior ministerial role, following his work on several committee's,but maybe that boat has sailed, and Simon Harris has eclipsed Alan in Enda's book.
The big decision we await is Shane Ross's decision on Metro north, will it be the full plan or metro lite,we'll have to wait and see,but for sure it's a pressing issue that need's his immediate attention.

    I don't see him as a minister.

I see James Reilly on the six 1 news on Sunday night after the big meeting in Athlone, and having a pop at FF as well.
It seems James is stilll deeply involved in the party despite his exit as a Td.
New Sinn Fein Health spokesperson, local TD Louise O’Reilly has been talking to the North County Leader about the Primary health care unit in Balbriggan,James Reilly's legacy as Minister for health.
They are of course a great idea, but not worth a toss if they are not fully staffed as she rightly points out.
Louise O’Reilly say's she will pressure Simon Harris to ensure that the staffing levels in Beaumont Hospital and Our Lady of Lourdes are addressed to try and end both hospitals shameful trolley crisis.
She also hope's that Swords will be one of the 80 centres around the country that will avail of a new primary care unit,it's funny how things change in a year or so.
James Reilly wanted the 80 P.C.U and the local H.D.U units built to reduce pressure and attendances on out patients and main hospitals.
At least ,while Fingal had a minister,Lusk and Balbriggan benefitted, and if they take a bit of pressure off the main on line hospitals,it can only be a good thing.

    He is the Deputy Leader.

Yes indeed he is still deputy leader,so maybe we may well see his influence or a nod at cabinet level in relation to Metro North and the roll out of the Primary care units yet.

Well you were right Allyall ,Enda did't rate Alan Farrell in the job stakes at all.
Micheál thought more of Darragh O’Brien giving him the Foreign Affairs and Trade:brief on the front bench.
Maybe, just maybe between them ,seeing that politically they be kin folk now, kinda like cussin's ,they might at least get the estuary boardwalk done below,at least have some thing done to show for their time and get some thing out of ''the new politics'' for the forgotten voters of Fingal.

O'Brien will get a few projects that were purposefully put on hold when he lost his seat, back on track. Mainly in his home constituency. The Casino House which is now on it's very last legs (and which, O'Briens tutor is a trustee of.), The Boardwalk and a few other things that currently escape me, that are unfinished.

I don't believe Farrell has any actual interest in Politics, nor do I think anyone in Fine Gael does either. I believe he is warming a seat for someone else to take when they get someone in that area.
His first steps as a TD spoke volumes to me.
I was very surprised he got back in, I guess he was lucky that James Reilly didn't and the FG voters had to choose at least one of them.
He was also very lucky with his timing a few years ago, another FG Councillor moved ward and lost all of his votes, having been well liked in his local area beforehand. Farrell took his spot.

My bet is, when someone FG take seriously starts to run in Fingal, Farrell will be asked to take a back seat, maybe councillor. He'll still have a large allowances and expenses pot to dip into, should he need it.

There's a lot of unfinished things , the lot of them could be getting on with, maybe a shopping list thread for the Fingal Td's ,and maybe more for our councillors that seem to want to plaster Fingal with no end of supermarkets instead of houses , proper roads, sewage discharge etc is needed, just to remind them where their bread and butter is '' loike''.
We could add to it by the next election, but definitely I will keeping an eye to see what either shower and parties, deliver, somehow with no proper representation I doubt it,Metro North will be the Litmus test,if it's ''Lite'' we will know for sure both FF N FG are a total shower ,,, but we will wait and see ... after all their is ''New Politic's'' about ..yep we'll see.

Hope not, thought we got rid of him, suppose as he is Deputy Leader of FG, he has to be paid by someone, may as well be us.

Well James has got in and got his seat, just before they on on holidays while they fix the roof for 80 million.
http://www.rte.ie/news/2016/0527/791478-seanad/ ... did't say what he would be doing ,maybe holding the ladder for the lad's on the roof.

Well as he is no longer a Minister, there is no impediment to his returning to his Medical Practice, so that plus the Senate Salary, suppose he won't be on the bread line.

How often does the Senate sit, I'd say it averages a day a week, over the year, so 4 days left to tend to his patients

This crack that they will have to vacate the Dail and Senate and adjourn both house's till the renovations are over really take's the biscuit.
Evidently, they cannot find suitable accommodation to facilitate the business of both house's,laughable stuff, there should't even be a summer recess to make up for the 3 month's they were all missing, while they sorted who got what.
I see the Dail near empty as usual, during the week, business as usual so.

They could hold there meetings in the Dail Bar, that way they will not interrupt the Pints while having to press a button to vote.
