So this morning I went for my jog (as usual), suddenly I was on the ground! I don't even remember falling or anything, I was just running and like a split second later I "woke up" on the road - around 70 mimutes later:( it's scary to think I was just thrown down there for so long. Its made me evaluate choosing the cul de sacs over the other roads. Granted on the cul de sac I was "safe" ie not hit by a car, but on the busier road I surely would have been found within 20 mins. Which roads do you opt for? Has something like this ever happened to you?
My doctor said theres nothing wrong with me so it was probably dehydration - although my routine was no different to any other morning :P

I have seen it a fair few times but it was from being on the go for a few days.

From the likes of a run, iv seen it happen about 5 times. All were dehydration related.

Its not uncommon but its not something id ignore if it happened again...even if your Doc says you are fine.

Iv never seen someone out for 70 minutes though. That sounds a bit extreme. Make sure you have enough water on board and some electrolytes too. Stay safe!

    Best of luck.

You pass out because you had lack of oxygen to the brain perhaps? I think it's time to see a proper doctor maybe and have an ECG under stress to see how your heart is performing? 70minutes of being passed out doesn't sound like "nothing" to me....... Go get an ECG under stress test!! f**k that "nothing" from a GP!

I'd look for a second opinion too. It's doubtful to me that it was due to dehydration, particularly since you didn't feel it coming on. If you were that dehydrated at this time of year in Ireland just out for a run there's something wrong. How long were you running for up until that point?

I seen lots of people pass out from lack of oxygen to the brain (Cerebral hypoxia). None were out for more than a few seconds, 70 minutes sounds like something else. If he blood supply was disrupted for that long, he's be dead.

OP is it possible that you got the time wrong for some reason?

    70 minutes?!!

That's not from working out. Get yourself checked out.

Were you on am empty stomach?

Either way, that should be pretty worrying to you, especially since you were out for such a long time.

To answer your question: no, but lots of people get lightheadedness when they're lifting heavy on squats and deadlifts so even they wouldn't pass out for the amount of time you did.

I was about 15 minutes / 3k in. I knew what time I left, roughly how long it takes me to get to that spot and I checked the time on my ipod when I came round, so it was definitely 70 give or take a few minutes. I did an ecg and he said it was regular. I was on an empty stomach but I always am 😯 Do I really need a second opinion? I haven't felt any different at all...

After 15 minutes doing 3k which is a slow pace, yes, get a second opinion. There's no way that could be dehydration from running alone.

    GO TO ANOTHER DOCTOR

Holy shit, 70 minutes of unconsciousness/missing time is a gigantic deal, there could be anything wrong with you. You could have been in a fugue state and doing God knows what, or having a seizure or anything. To me this is the equivalent of someone posting to say that blood is pouring from their ears and should they do something.

Are you sure the doctor understood you were involuntarily unconscious for over an hour?

You could need a brain scan or anything, you could have had a fit and been in a catatonic state, 70 mins is not training related its medical related

Seriously tho, get a second opinion. Unexplained loss of consciousness for 70 minutes is not to be taken lightly. That ECG only shows you how the heart is performing while hooked up to the monitor.

Also, when possible, it would be worth have a running buddy when going out training.

did you bang your head when you fell?

my mate passed out but then banged his head and that caused him to be out for the count for a period that you mentioned.

you probably need some tests run , my mate had underlining issues that they found when they examined him

Op, you can see from the replies that your episode was not normal, and you absolutely need another doctors opinion and a referral to one or more specialists for further investigation. I would strongly recommend you do not run alone for the time being.

As this is in the realm of medical advice, I am going to close the thread. Best of luck op.
