If they paid the Tax, Insurance and Fuel on the Tractor and Jeep for 12 months, It'd be a decent prize

If you win it you can contact me and I'll take it off your hands :)

The farm machinery show in Punchestown had a new Holland and loader as a prize with the same catch.
There was a time that the IFJ would give a prize of a Zetor with loader or LR Discovery in the journal and it was yours, end of. Lately prizes are much smaller, a quad or some such.
Probably give you option to buy tractor through a favourable finance arrangement at the end of the year.

I wonder would the winner see it as a challenge to try put 12,000 hours on it in 12 months.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

33 hours a day every day! Would be impressive alright!

I don't like being made work for the prize either

Collect this token and that token - reminds me of being a child collecting up bits off cereal packets for a plastic bowl with tony the ****ing tiger on it

At least you got to keep the bowl. Run a decent competition or **** right off.

Supermarkets should be made get rid of loyalty cards too - collecting up measly points and enslaving an entire generation of shoppers just to give them the "bargains" they should already be given while they collect data on you so you can be more easily manipulated into buying more of their value added crap while they squeeze producers at the other end and make off with vast profits for the almighty board.

    Funny old world.

If I had it it would be open to the last, not sure these days whether an hour goes up every hour or is it hours at 1600 rpm?

I'd take it and just drive around with my lovely brand new John Deere but with all the machinery we currently have suitable for our Massey 240! Let the neighbours think I'm stone mad! Topping with my 6ft semi offset at 40k

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,057 Mod ✭✭✭✭Siamsa Sessions

I mentioned this competition to herself the other morning, asking if she wanted the tractor, the jeep, or the groceries - I had a fair idea what she'd say but her simple logic threw me.

She said the 5 grand saved on the shopping could be put towards a decent second-hand jeep that I'd have for a lot longer than 12 months.

So, I'm going to be cutting out me little tokens every week now 😄

Trading as Sullivan’s Farm on YouTube

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,748 ✭✭✭ganmo

This is a way for the dealers to get a nearly new machine to sell second hand so it only ends up costing them a few grand rather that 40/50 grand.
Cheeky but as long as you go in with your eyes open

Buy a massive mulcher and run her on it 24/7, and thats just the jeep!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,055 ✭✭✭selectamatic

I'm nearly certain a couple of years ago a former Miss Ireland or Rose of Tralee won a jeep for a year in a similar competition and her partner drove the sh1te outta it, towed trailers, brought it off etc. road and put up a serious amount of miles on it :D think there was a bit of a court case when the time came to hand back the keys but as far as I remember they got off, and rightly so imo I know if I won a vehicle for a year I'd get plenty of use outta it before I'd hand it back too.

    500 hours max on tractor

Just under 10hrs in a week. Ffs. If they have terms and conditions like that on it thats not a prize its entering some type of contract.

Ya it's in there terms and conditions , the other compitition with the mf for the year is 350 hours max on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,656 ✭✭✭✭road_high

Said the exact same thing. Desperate "prize". Basically just a tease for the year. Either give the thing away properly or a more modest tractor or jeep, or just don't bother at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 445 ✭✭rs8

what id do is run the tractor up to hours as quick as i could (2 and a half/ 3 months), then go to a newspaper and get them to write a sob story of how you won a €60000 tractor (or what ever value it is) for a year and cant use! then come the water works with the stress that you cant use it haah maybe too far

There's no option in exchange for the meal for a tillage farmer..

Haha I'd just be glad not to be 350 hrs in our current cabless tractor! Can't complain if you're getting something for free, :D
I wonder would there be much scope for striking a deal at the end of the year:rolleyes:

What's the problem? your getting them for free are you not.
Jasus I'd be glad of either or for free for a year.
