Anyone know how long the fecking road through Caragh will be closed for? I've heard rumors the bridge won't be fixed until December.

The local scuttlebutt is it will be 16 months. For some reason the stones that were damaged have to be sent off to Germany to be repaired. They can't replace any of the stone, they have to reuse the original.

The mind boggles. Why can't they build a separate bridge, single lane, and use it for going in one direction. The original bridge for the other way.

Someone from the council was on KFM last week(can't remember their name or position) and they said that 6 extensive survey's of use of the bridge had been carried out in the last 3-4 years and that the amount of people using the bridge didn't warrant the expense of building another bridge. The presenter asked had the survey's been carried out on weekends that Mondelo has something on and a few thousand people would be going that way and the person said they'd have to check the dates but most likely they weren't done on weekends

The backlog of traffic now on the rathangan road is mad. I'd like to see the times and dates of that survey myself.

I just hope the other railway bridge up the road doesn't get damaged in the meantime with all the heavy vehicles crossing over it.

Seem the bridge is going to open sooner than thought. http://www.kildarenow.com/news/caragh-throws-party-tomorrow-to-help-boost-the-village-hit-by-bridge-closure/47237

Caragh is throwing a party this weekend to help boost the village hit by the closure of its historic bridge.

Specialist repair works on the protected monument, which was built over the Liffey in 1656, is due to finish early next month.

There was a crash on Victoria bridge this morning. Anyone know what happened? The traffic was a lot lighter getting onto the n7 on the Rathangan road earlier today.

It was on Kfm as well. I know they blow things out of proportion a lot of the time, but traffic was much lighter this morning.

Has anyone else noticed the skid marks on random roads around Kildare? They're in Prosperous, Maynooth and near Mondello. It's like an S shape all over the road.

I drove from Clane to prosperous yesterday and was completely shocked at the tyre marks on the road up to curry hills. Absolutely disgusting. I feel sorry for any other road users that may have happened upon that at the time and for the residents on that road. I've noticed it around the place like sallins and Maynooth etc but nothing like that stretch at prosperous

They're not skid marks, some one acting the Mick in a car drifting up the road.

They're all the way from Clane to Prosperous and from Prosperous up to the Downings Cross. There are plenty more on the road between Milltown and Newbridge.

Soon is all I heard. I think there's going to be traffic lights up towards the village at the railway bridge too. Kfm was the source again.

    http://www.kildarenow.com/news/after-nearly-three-months-caragh-bridge-is-to-open-to-cars-very-soon/54578

Caragh Bridge will reopen to cars in two weeks, according to a local councillor.

Workmen have been carrying out specialist repairs on the protected monument since it was damaged by a tractor on August 22.

Cllr Robert Power said: "Although a date has yet to be confirmed I expect that Caragh Bridge will reopen to cars within the next two weeks.

"As part of the safety measures introduced to prevent another detrimental incident like this reoccurring, HGVs will no longer be able to use the bridge.

I heard there will also be traffic lights at Victoria bridge on the Naas to Rathangan Road. Hope this isn't true. That Road is way too busy to make that bridge one way.

More lights, ha. They've mended the protected one, they should just knock the Victoria one. It's tiny sure, I've seen bigger speed bumps.

Proposed permanent lights on the narrow bridge and also the bridge over the railway that is currently being used as a diversion. No one will obey lights on the narrow bridge if theres nothing the otherside.

Thank God that's over. Between the Caragh closure and the Millennium Round-about job Sallins has been an absolute nightmare.

It's not true. No lights planned there.

Permanent lights look like they're going in on the Caragh Bridge. Bit of a pain but good to see that HGVs are banned of it. Was too small anyway.

Official detour is via Naas - Clane Road. Victoria Bridge has no restrictions also.

They'll be certainly a set of lights that will be a midnight green.

The problem may be that some drivers dont have the courtesy to obey the right of way sign.
