Worst Restaurant Experience?

Without naming places, what was your worst experience of an eatery? Vile food, appalling service and/or lack of atmosphere?

For me it was a few years ago at a Chinese. We were only one of two tables that were occupied and the chicken was so tough I had trouble cutting it up. My dining companion was served up something that came out of a can and we left the place to go and eat something edible.

So what were your restaurant nightmares?

Was in a popular fast food chain, ordered a burger and chips, your man goes off to get chips etc, stops, picks up rubbish with bare hands and proceeds to stuff it into a bin (had to open the lid also), then he heads over to assemble my burger, I just walked out and have never been back, that was years ago!
I should have known, he was a dirty looking eejit anyway :pac:

A restaurant in Fromentine near Nantes about ten years ago. We have feck-all French but enough to know the waiter was passing comments about us to the other diners - "une grand comedie" as he said as we took our seats.

Food was delish but by God some of the French are arrogant baxtards.

Ordered 'hot sake' to drink on a cold winter's night, waiter somehow confused sake with vinegar and served us hot vinegar instead.

I found this super cheap chinese on just eat and I thought it was amazing cos I was getting a huge bag of food for less than a tenner. The food was real bad, then I was so sick the morning after I thought I was gonna die. I was ****ting and throwing up at the same time it was so awful thats the worst meal I've ever eaten.



Got a refund though so thats alright.

Was in a chinese restaurant in Auckland with a friend for my birthday, food was lovely, halfway through meal my friend excused herself to visit the loo.

On her return she told me to stop eating we were leaving, wouldnt tell me what was happening till we left.

To get to the loo you had to go past the kitchen and she spotted the staff doing what looked like washing leftovers from previous meals in the sink, she said there was peas, veg an chicken in the colander with the previous sauce being washed off!

Any chance they were just stopping the solids from going down the sink and blocking the drains?

Not surprised most of your stories are related to Chinese food.

I knew there was a reason I hated it; it's always nasty...spongy chicken, the same colour sauce no matter what dish you've ordered, voluminous looking spare ribs, big spongy chicken balls (I don't know how anyone can put those in their mouths), and then there's the little hatch so you can't see the kitchen.

Disgusting vile food.

My worst restaurant experience was in a pub near Blessington. Ordered lasagne and salad.
Tucked in and was disgusted to find a long black hair inside the meat mixture.

A restaurant in china served me an eel type fish that was still twitching.

Local chipper. Ordered for takeaway burger and chips , burger was stone cold , raw and still mooing at me , chips weren't cooked. Called them back and they asked me 'Are you sure there raw?'....ehhh yes otherwise I'd be eating it you twat.

So they pay someone to wash peas instead of just boiling some new (cheap) peas.

When I was 17 I worked in a really posh hotel restaurant. Myself and few of the other young waitresses used to eat off any uneaten food of the plates that looked nice before scraping the scraps into the bin.


Looking back how gross is that! At the time we were poor students and didn't give a sh1te.

Chinese food is generally revolting. If I'm forced to get Chinese takeaway I'll just order chips and such.

Chinese cuisine when done right can be divine - but too many Chinese eateries here serve up pure rubbish - water injected "chicken" and watery sauces. The sad thing is that we Irish put up with this crap otherwise they'd be out of business.

I also don't like the way the kitchen is hidden from view - in my opinion it's good to be able to see the kitchen as it shows the customer that the restaurant has nothing to hide.

I worked in a Chinese restaurant (with a very clean kitchen) and we'd do that too. Only with the chicken balls or the crispy duck and only if they were still on the serving dish rather than the plate.

chinese takeaway in Northern Ireland back about 30 years ago, ordered my takeaway and had to stand at a hatch waithing for the order, no one there but myself and the chinese guy who owned it.

next thing this guy starts clearing his throat and after several large rasping efforts to scrape every bit of mucous up from his stomach to his tonsils calmly spits the whole lot out into a bin beside one of the friers:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Never had the hunger leave me as fast in my life:(:(

I turns and walks away all the time listening to the filthy hoor shouting after me " where you go where you go, flied lice and chips soon be ready":mad:

Often had so-so meals and less than clean glasses/forks but the worst experience was when the food was absolutely fabulous but the staff members kept bitching at each other in front if everybody. So awkward. You'd nearly put up with average food and a nice atmosphere v the opposite.

Actually something similar happened me in around St Stephens green it said baked eggs which it was as in if you go two eggs and put them in two little pans for three hours in the oven and then served them i thought it was an unfunny joke until i got the bill!

When you're not asked how you would like your steak cooked, it's usually a sign that you should change your order.

And then they served the steak with a butterknife.

I also don't like the way the kitchen is hidden from view - in my opinion it's good to be able to see the kitchen as it shows the customer that the restaurant has nothing to hide.

My local Chinese has can open kitchen.

The worst I had was a chipper where she sneezed into her hands, wiped them in a cloth and then proceeded to wipe the counter with the same cloth.
When I complained to the owner he barred me
Needless to say, the FSA paid them a visit

When we have steak at home, we use our normal dinner-knives. It puts me off when restaurants give me a small saw to cut my steak.

In a branch of TGI Fridays I was given a plate of frozen scampi. Another time in another chain restaurant, my friend was given a salad with a slug on it. He had horns and all.

Went to a Mexican restaurant in Munich before with my girlfriend. We both ordered fajitas, though mine was beef and hers chicken. Hers arrived out after 20 minutes or so, stone cold. 20 minutes later (40 minutes after ordering) I still hadn't gotten mine and my girlfriend had finished hers. Asked the waitress who had served us what the craic was and she said she's sort it out, then proceeded to go chat with some other customers for 5 minutes. After 10 minutes of no sign of any food I grabbed what looked to be the manager. He gave the waitress a filthy look and said something sharp to her in German. Got my food almost straight away then (was pretty mediocre).

Seemed to be one piss poor waitress rather than the restaurant, she really looked like she didn't give a fúck. That said, wasn't the only place in Munich we got poor service.

Oh yes and Irish "food" is so great. The zenith of Irish cuisine is the shnack box.
A little note on Irish takeaways. Every single one of them uses the same polystyrene buns, frozen burgers from a centralised "mystery meat" processing plant, the same mass produced sauce and the same pre-cut lettuce and tomato. And a lot of Irish restaurants are glorified chippers with a few tables that will charge you €15-20 for chips and burger of the same mass-produced quality as the above.
My worst food experience is ordering a chicken kebab in one of those eateries.
The took white, processed chicken, as found on the average Irish sandwich, put it onto a bun, put mayonnaise on it and shoved it into the microwave.
It was almost as disgusting as the shredded shoes and car tires with cabbage and ketchup you will be served up in a well-known Irish chain doing an Oirish version of "dem foreign muck", also referred to as ethnic food.

Give me a good Chinese, Thai or Indian any day. A lot of people are scared of them, because it has more than salt and pepper in them, average Irish meal recipe is:
Meat, shove in pot and boil or shove in oven and roast
Potatoes, throw in pot and boil
Veg, ditto
Ladle out, add salt.
Just like mammy used to make.
Of course you're all scared of properly prepared food and there's a particular dislike of any sauce here.

Was in quite a nice (or so I thought!!) restaurant in London a couple of years ago with the wife, I ordered the Filet de Boeuf Grillé et Purée d'Epinards Poêlée de Champignons and asked the waiter to choose a wine to accompany my meal ....... he presented me with a 2004 bottle of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Montrachet Grand Cru .......... I couldn't believe it!!?!! White wine with beef!!! :eek:

I gave the waiter a severe telling-off before I took my wife by the hand and left in disgust ........ that was my worst ever restaurant experience.

The roll wasn't cooked, just the white, half-baked mush straight from a cuisine de france box.

Tbf, as a big fan of Indian and Thai, I find the European interpretation of Chinese food to be incredibly bland for the most part. Just because you don't like Chinese take away doesn't mean you only eat coddle.

Worst for me was in Turkey years ago with my ex wife .
Food was ok , but a row broke out with some customers and a manager , as the customers were leaving one of them produced a small hand gun and fired three or four shots at a wall above the managers head.

I once found out my waiter was a fraud because he didn't know Mouton-Rothschild was a claret. He left with his tail between his legs.

French restaurant in Limerick (gone now) served wine which the cork seal had failed.

I guy I know told me he used to spit in burgers in McDonald's when he worked there.

A Eddie rickets served raw chicken nuggets to my kid.
