Liverpool v Aston Villa - 3pm - Not on TV

Might this be the last game of Brendan Rodgers reign at Anfield? Things aren't rosy for Tim Sherwood and Aston Villa either, but it's 5 years since tey lost at Anfield so should be very hopeful of being able to get a positive result against a Liverpool side who haven't scored more than a single goal in a game since Early May.

It'll probably be a dour enough game, but if Liverpool can repeat the improvement of last Saturday against Norwich, and not the shoot from 30 yards display against Carlisle there might be a long overdue positive result for the home side.

There won't be more than a single goal in this I reckon, but I'll go a pretty optimistic (all things considered) 2-1 home win to ease home tensions a bit, but put pressure on Tim. Rudy Gestede though is the type of player that Liverpool haven't been able to handle in recent years.

Rumoured Liverpool starting lineup: Mignolet – Emre Can, Škrtel, Sakho – Clyne, Milner, Lucas, Moreno – Coutinho – Sturridge, Ings

Hopefully a large contribution from Liverpool to the Aston Villa relegation campaign.

There was still tickets available for this game today. Can't remember the last time I seen that for a league game at Anfield, particularly this early in the season.

Last week vs Norwich there were tickets available a couple of days beforehand as well.

2-1 to Liverpool to ease the pressure on Brentan.

    1-1

Liverpool to play like strangers, Villa score on the counter.

1-1. The current and potentially future Liverpool manager in competition for an interesting game. Rodgers to begin the long recovery for Liverpool by picking up a valuable point against Aston Villa.

So you reckon Sherwood will get the job after Moyes then?

If Rodgers doesn't get a win here there's surely no better time to get rid

If he's still in the job after a draw or loss you can assume Klopp or Ancelotti aren't the ones waiting in the wings to replace him, otherwise he would be gone

The game sold out in the July sale. The reason why there are so many tickets on sale is the season ticket holders have had enough and selling their match tickets.

2-1 home win to be followed by the usual, well thought out "RodgersOut" posts.

Villa usually hand us our arses at Anfield and we're even worse than normal these days. Villa win and throw Rodgers in the Mersey.

I've seen us play Villa twice at Anfield in the PL in the last 6 years and we have lost 1-3 both times, they are definitely a bogey team.

Can't see us keep a clean sheet at Anfield so the best we can hope for us a score draw I'd say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,857 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

Either 1-0 or 0-3. Depends on which Aston villa turn up.
A dour game in any case.

    Liverpool win.

Despite the fact that we are in a desperate run of form & we don't have a good record, I see one of those bizarro land type results.

A win shouldnt make a difference imo.

Villa's form is shocking too. Sherwood is a spoofer. Two managers in trouble today.

Do you think a win should change the RodgersOut" 'campaign'?

When was the last time a manager was sacked immediately after winning a game?

They might get a draw but can't see them winning. Your better off waiting until liverpool are 1 nil up and then lay them.

Ye it was around Christmas 3 or 4 years ago, I had left the ground by then.

I thought it did in one of the cups but maybe not - I might be thinking of when Biscan was right-full.

I was at a game once where the midfield was Cheyrou, Biscan, Kewell and Danny Murphy, El-Haji Diouf came off the bench for Cheyrou and Salif Diao walked out of the stadium before the game because he wasn't in the matchday squad.

We lost that game. I'd take today's midfield over it!

Moreno is due a goal but I'm worried about Gestede. That in mind I'm going to copy the previous 3 results and predict a 1-1 draw.

I hate myself for this but I'm excited for the game. No matter how poor every performance is, come matchday I'm looking forward to us playing and expecting a good performance.

Still think Rodgers will be sacked after his next loss.

0-0 will do. Just to ensure Rodgers stays on for the derby next week.

That 6th place trophy is ours

So which one of those players is better than Coutinho or even Milner...

you're crazy if you honestly believe that, which I don't think you do. Unless you're too young to have seen the above in action and your memories start with Masch, Xabi, Stevie and Momo cause compared to that it is an AWFUL midfield.

Anyway i'm hoping Allen starts over Lucas. Lucas literally does nothing in these games.

Looks like a 433 for Villa. If that is the case then we're in trouble if we do play with 3 at the back.
