Drink driving

Today I was down in my local shop. There is a lady who is well known to drink a lot. She just got her license back after being banned from driving over drink driving. I was just after getting into my car and she came out of the shop drinking vodka.she drank the bottle. Then she jumped in and started driving. She started to reverse erratically and nearly hit me. (I'm a learner) I then moved further back. She then turned the car and nearly hit me again! After 3 failed attempts she took off. She drove off and nearly crashed into the wall.
I have her number plate and was wondering if I go to the Gaurds with it will they do something or am I wasting my time ? Thanks

Report her. She's dangerous. It may be too late, but they might catch her driving around still off her face. She's a danger to herself and others.

You should have called the Gardaí then and there really

You should have taken a video and put it up here.

Report it. Hopefully she gets caught before someone gets hurt

Not calling you a liar OP but that story sounds a bit fanciful to be honest

I'd report it, if she wiped out some person or family it would be on your conscience a while.

And it was at school time and children were walking around by the shop!

Yes, I know that now. At the time I was in shock and as I was in my moms car (151 bmw) I was really concerned she was going to hit it.

I would have, but I was the only one in the car and it was really a matter of move it, or video it and have it hit

I swear on my life I'm not lying. I told my mom the story just there and she said lately she was talking to someone and the drinker had reportedly had her car stolen, when in reality she forgot where she parked it.

If what you say is true, Monkey, and a woman went into a shop, bought a bottle of vodka and necked the whole of it there and then, she's clearly a lunatic. Its a wonder she didn't keel over after doing that.

At least she didn't hit your car mate

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 126 ✭✭Severard

If she is that brazen about it after just getting her license back then she'll likely do it again. You should definitely call the Gaurds and let them know what happened.

It was a 375ml bottle. This women is In her 60s. She lost her job 20 years ago because of her drinking. She is a walking disaster. I am surprised she's not dead tbh. Whenever you see her she is drunk. Drinking a bottle of vodka is nothing to her.

I think it's utterly ludicrous that you didn't report her there and then,

I bet you follow every law out there too. Never broke a speed limit or anything.

Just an update. Saw her again today. She was attempting a uturn on a crossroads. One lady rang the Gaurds but they couldn't come out for an hour or so. She was well gone. I have also went to them about what happened yesterday and they said she has been sent letters warning her not to drive after receiving reports, however they need to catch her themselves. They need proff in other words.

If they know who she is, and where she lives. Why don't they just camp at the end of her road for a few days?

That's what I said, but they quickly replied that they don't have the resources for it.

It's getting very out of hand and the guard did say there were multiple reports about her. So I think they will try and do something

Monkey a young lad like you shouldn't be concerned with such things. Get a hobby or something.

I'm sure the Guards know what they're doing

There's undoubtedly a reason why the Guards haven't picked her up yet and have instead been sending her letters. There's more to this than meets the eye. Best leave them to it

I'm a girl to start with. Also I don't want a child ran over and killed by a drunk driver. I had a friend killed by one and it is the worst thing anyone could go through, knowing it could be prevented if they didn't drive the car.
This was the end of school time at 3pm in a local shop where children would go after school. The chnace of her hitting one is very high.
Do you think she should not be reported ? How would you feel if a drunk diver killed your mother/father/brother or sister. Cop on with your remarks in future.

Honestly I think it's just they haven't caught her. They can't arrest her or suspend her license with no proof. I think it's only a matter of time. Hopefully soon

Get some recorded footage and submit it to the guards would be my first thought.

Or if you have somebody with you next time, both of you attend at the station and make formal statements which back up what the other is saying. The Guards know that if (God forbid) something happens and it transpires that there are corroberating statements on record they're screwed.

A little more juvenile but might appeal to you (i'd consider it) - if you know where she lives, let the air out of her tyres. A day less of her drink driving is a day safer for all involved.

    Just a few ideas.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,866 ✭✭✭✭bear1

Tbh **** the car at that stage, that's what insurance is for. The moment I would have seen her skull a 375ml of vodka and head for her car id be out like a shot to remove her keys and call the police.
As you said it would have been full.of kids but the car not being damaged was more important? I can kind of understand that especially as a new driver but in the future that's what you need to do.
A kids like is worth more than a piece of metal.

Until someone is reversing toward your new car of course.

Suddenly, that will also be your immediate priority in the moment someone is reversing too close to it.

Was the real reason you never reported her there and then due to driving on your own being a learner?

To me, you are almost every bit as bad as her. You are a learner, what give you the right to drive on your own without a test?

    Get off the road!

Thanks. I did go up to her house and wait for about 15 minutes to see if she would come home yesterday after another episode my mother saw. She didn't. She is a danger to others on the road. I would have recorded it but I didn't even think to do that I was just trying to get my car and myself out of the way.

Yes obviously I know that. I am a 17 year old girl I'm not going to get out and try take the keys off her. God knows what she's have done. I can see your point of view but I'd be afraid how she'd react

Yes thank you. Also it isn't even mine it's my mothers so I wouldn't have liked something to happen it while I was driving.

No it wasn't the reason. My mother was inside in the shop so I was NOT driving alone. Yes I do sometime but on this occasion I was not.

Don't you dare compare me to a drunk driver. I have control over the car and am aware of what's going on. She had no clue. I may not have 10 years of experience but I was not drunk so do not compare me to one.

thats illegal to be doing so. There is a reason why its illegal.

Drivers like you make me sick. Get a licence and drive legally. If not get off the road.

Hopefully someone driving legally will report BOTH you and the drink driver

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,934 ✭✭✭MarkAnthony

OP - if this sort of thing ever happens again immediately dial 999 and report it and stay out of the way. There is very little else you can do. Suggesting a learner (or pretty much any) driver does some Starsky and Hutch move to block the drunken fool is more likely going to cause an even bigger mess.

Why did your accompanying driver not call? ;)

Well then why didn't you report it there and then? Why are you on your high horse with this poster when you admitted at the time the only thing that concerned you was that she didn't scratch the beemer. The bang of troll off this thread though. I doubt very much AGS send letters to drink drivers asking them to refrain from drinking and driving.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,907 ✭✭✭power pants

definitely not for serious ones like drink driving or driving without a licence

anything else, no Im pretty sure I havent.

What a ridiculous post trying to defend someone driving illegally
