Mullen isn't riding the u23 road race, Dunbar is our sole representative.

Stupid thing is I started out just saying Dunbar, then looked at the entry list where Mullen's name is down for both TT and RR - he's definitely not on the start list though:o

Having said that Dan Martin and Nico Roche are down in the men's RR entries!

The surprise attack, a great strategy.

I think Ireland qualified 1 but were able to name 2, with Mullen effectively acting as reserve to Dunbar, but focussing on the TT

I saw an article this week that said Caleb Ewen wasn't eligible to ride the U23 road race because its not open to world tour riders , maybe Mullen is in the same boat if he has officially signed for Cannondale Garmin , Ewen rode it last year because he was only on a stagiere contract.

He's eligible to ride alright, he'd have been unable to do the TT were that the case. We just didn't qualify 2 riders.

I wish he'd stop talking about riders leaning on each other

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,256 ✭✭✭MPFGLB

I wish he's stop going on a bout Dunbar ala Attapuma ....jinx galore

Doesn't Dunbar ride a bit like the Jensie

I suspect Eddie is better off in that break (3 left in it) rather than stuck in the peloton possibly having to run up those cobbles!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,561 ✭✭✭Eamonnator

Trouble is the Italian won't work with the other two.

This is hilarious- 'MartinEarley is in the break' while the peleton looks like they have relocated to Belgium with a gang of them walking up the cobbled climb!

And is that 'Joe-Akum Rodriguez' riding for Chile?
The chap from Kazakistan looks like he's churning a 54x11 trying to get across. I hope he makes it too

Just turned on. If that Italian is doing nothing, surely the others should be roaring abuse at him every spare moment. I remember in the Giro Contador & Aru managed eventually to shame Porte into working with them when he was doing that miserable scrounging kind of riding. Maybe I'm wronging Martinelli but all I've seen him is be at the back of the 4 every shot so far.

the Italian is telling Dunbar he can't ride, because he has 5 team mates behind.
The 5 Italians are telling everybody else, they can't work because they have a man in the break, Tactics

Martinelli needs a fking slap. He makes Valverde look like a team player. I'd be half tempted to pull hard left and jam on the brakes just to force him to take his turn.

Keep up the abuse! The other thing isn't it where one of the riders keeps falling behind the Italian forcing him to close the gap. I think that's how they got Porte eventually to pull his weight from what I remember.

The climbs are enough to allow the punchers a shot, and some of the sprinters will make it too. Should be a cracker.
