Due to a change in plans work wise, I won't even get to see this :(

Anyhoo, I said I'd do a match thread so here be it :)

    First up the teams :)

    Georgia Team: 1-Mikheil Nariashvili, 2-Jaba Bregvadze, 3-Davit Zirakashvili, 4-Giorgi Nemsadze, 5-Konstantine Mikautadze, 6-Giorgi Tkhilaishvili, 7-Viktor Kolelishvili, 8-Mamuka Gorgodze (captain); 9-Vasil Lobzhanidze, 10-Lasha Malaguradze, 11-Giorgi Aptsiauri, 12-Merab Sharikadze, 13-Davit Kacharava, 14-Tamaz Mchedlidze, 15-Merab Kvirikashvili

    Replacements: 16-Shalva Mamukashvili, 17-Karlen Asieshvili, 18-Levan Chilachava, 19-Levan Datunashvili, 20-Shalva Sutiashvili, 21-Giorgi Begadze, 22-Giorgi Pruidze, 23-Murazi Giorgadze

Argentina Team: 1-Marcos Ayerza, 2-Agustin Creevy (captain), 3-Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro, 4-Matias Alemanno, 5-Tomas Lavanini, 6-Juan Manuel Leguizamon, 7-Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe, 8-Facundo Isa; 9-Tomas Cubelli, 10-Nicolas Sanchez, 11-Juan Imhoff, 12-Juan Martin Hernandez, 13-Marcelo Bosch, 14-Santiago Cordero, 15-Joaquin Tuculet

Replacements: 16-Julian Montoya, 17-Lucas Noguera, 18-Ramiro Herrera, 19-Javier Ortega Desio, 20-Pablo Matera, 21-Martin Landajo, 22-Jeronimo De La Fuente, 23-Lucas Gonzalez Amorosino

After their unexpected victory over Tonga last Saturday and wild celebrations after, Georgia go into this match as the underdogs, but may fancy their chances to take an Argentinian scalp.

There are three changes to the Argentinian team who started against NZ, primarily due to injuries in the second and back row.

Argentina have dropped down to a thirty man squad due to the 9 week ban imposed on Mariana Galarzo for gouging in the NZ game last week.

Georgias scrum half is just 18 years old, the youngest ever player to play in a world cup.

However, Georgias team is their most experienced ever at a World Cup.

Argentina should be clear favourites here, and are expected to come second in the group. However bookies odds support this with Argentina 1/18 for the win and Georgia 10/1

I'd expect a bruising encounter between the two, watch out for Gorgodze, the number eight nicknamed Gorgodzilla for his mighty bulk playing for Georgia.

Verdict - Argentina to win :)

I think you have your odds wrong! Argentina are clear favourites to win.

Aye, the odds quoted are for the handicap which was 16 or so in favour of the Argies.

I'm going to go out on a limb , and on a hunch , and cause it is the biggest game Georgia have played , and call a shock win for them . Win this and they will have truly arrived.

May eat humble pie, but World cups are about surprises.

I've form here, last match for me to do the thread was Japan and Scotland. I backed Japan to win :)

I'm tempted bet on Georgia too.

I think it will be a massively physical game between them, with most points coming from penalties if Georgia shut Argentina down.

I agree with both of you, I said when I saw Georgia play Tonga that they'd put it up to Argentina. Admittedly they were mighty impressive against New Zealand in parts, but even still, I can see georgia keeping it close.

It's there scrum half whose the 18 year old and he's quite good, should get a contract. The 10 isn't great. They missed some easy kicks last Saturday, hope that area improves.

It will be massive Georgia and their kiwi coach said the backs will pass it about more. Don't expect a shock but hope it'll be a close game with a few tries scored. Will be an arm wrestle up front but Argentina but have the better pack overall.

Was it the 15 taking the kicks though?

Argentina will win by about 20 here lads, they are a very good side. Georgia only beat Tonga - let's not get carried away..

I expect Gorgodze to have another completely un-interested, anonymous performance which sees him this weeks top tackler, most turnovers and top try scoring second row....!

It's not gonna happen, but IF it did, then Georgia would basically be in the QFs as they'd then only have to beat Namibia to qualify.

Cant see a georgia win. Think Argies by 12-18 points with a TBP. They have a decent backline

    Georgia will win the anthems.

Can't see them winning the match though.

First game I've caught as I was away for a week (apparently the Yanks are only showing the WC on PPV), but this Paloma Faith intro is a thing!
    Ad breaks after anthems too?

Kingsholm 3 games in a week sold out and deadly atmosphere.

The crowd chanting Argentina Argentina after their anthem I think put them ahead into the winning position.

Always love the random anthems. Georgia's is pretty cool.

It's got that kind of Russian vibe to it. Russia of course having the best anthem ever.

Romania's is quite good too. A bit scary.

25 of the 30 players on the field have played or are playing in the french Top 14

Is that why the ref is speaking French to them?

And jp Doyle just spoke french to a player! An irish ref talking french to a Georgian in Gloucester. Couldn't make it up.

Funny tho, we give out about the top 14 signing all the players but it does give the players from smaller nations a better platform.

most probably. don't think is georgian is up to scratch!!

    8-3 Argentina

Try and drop goal (no conversion) for Argentina, penalty Georgia

Argentina getting penalised in the scrums a bit.

    edit now 8-6

8-6 to Argentina, Georgian kicker just nailed a peno from halfway.

Georgian kicker much better this week.

This is like a top 14 game, big atmosphere and intensity, not a whole lot of technical quality. Doyle maybe been a bit harsh on Georgia so far. Could've given a yellow for Lavanini's shove.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,077 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Argentina 11 Georgia 6 now. I think Georgia are lucky to be within 5 - Argentine have most of the possession.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,077 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Both sets of supporters are very much up for this - atmosphere seems good.

Georgian backs seem disorganised.....lots of errors.

Nice attack there from Georgia has won them a penalty........3 points! 11-9.
