    If I ate 50% of a pie and Tom ate 25% of the same pie, in percentage, how much more did I eat than Tom?

    If I got 50% in my exam and Tom got 25%, in percentage, how much more did I get?

    Well you got double Tom's votes, so 100% more.
    The difference is 25% of the total votes however.

    If you only consider the people who voted for the two people. If you consider the entire population then it is 100%

    I overheard someone comment on election results, person A got 60% of the votes, person B got 20%, he said that person A got 40% more votes, is he right?

    He hasn't 40% more votes but 4000 basis points more.

    My thought was he had 200% more. 20/100 * 200 = 40 + 20 = 60

    The comment you overheard was (or was meant to be) "Person A got 40 percentage points more".

    Person A's votes were 200% of B's votes
