Two teams in states of slumber meet in the first group game of the Europa League, a group which also includes Sion and Rubin Kazan.

The squad news is that the following at not in the travelling party

Benteke, Skrtel, Lovren, Milner, Lucas and Clyne

So from that the likely starting 11 will be from

Bodgan, Mignolet, Gomez, Sakho, Moreno, Kolo, Can, Rossiter, Lallana, Firmino, Coutinho, Ings, Ibe, Origi

With the likes of Connor Randall, Cameron Brannagan and Dan Cleary along for the ride.

Bordeaux are themselves weak with a lengthy list of injuries including Mane and Diabaté.

It'll be a predictably disappointing performance although we might sneak a draw.

Liverpool to win by 3 clear goals so I'll go for a 2-5 scoreline.

Ugh - rage building. We've only scored 3 time this season and we've decided to leave our top scorer (Benteke with 2 goals) at home. Obviously Brendan doesn't want to damage our chances of winning the league this year, hence the need to rest players :pac:

I almost never oppose us, but Bordeaux to win could be a canny bet. We obviously couldn't give a stuff about this competition.

Good to see Rodgers sticking to his tried and tested method for approaching European games.

Looking at the positives, Nervol is left at home with Skrtel so Sakho and Toure will be a big upgrade at least.

And a good few of the rest will rightly see this game as an opportunity to stake a claim for a starting place.

Hasn't he been nursing a slight thigh strain though?

Gosh, imagine the uproar if he got injured playing in the Europa league and was out for a few months.

I think Ings will be okay tonight and our replacement forwards will be fine.

I will be interested to see if we can break the mould and not play 4 bloody 3 fcking 3 for a night...especially when the front 3 is really one isolated striker and two midfielders playing miles back.

    4-2-3-1 ?

Origi up on his own...Can and Rossiter in front of the defence, coutinho, lala and Ibe in a 3 behind the striker.

One striker anyway whatever about the rest.

We've been awful so I welcome a changed line-up, hopefully Lallana is central.

I'd like to see the end of this one up isolated striker business...

I thought TV3 had Irish Rights to EL games.

    :(

I'd like to see the end of this one up isolated striker business...

A natural winger in ibe and a left footer in moreno should improve things offensively for this set up. Would've prefer 2 up top myself.

Hard to see where the goals are going to come from.

This Bordeaux side drew 2-2 with PSG at the weekend. This game is not being taken seriously at all.

And another incident of him isolating a striker with one up front.

Keeper made horrendous mistakes gifting Bordeaux goals in that game against PSG. They aren't a good side and we should be beating them comfortably.

Great to see Sakho in the team again. About time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,155 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Hopefully Sakho shows why he should be a mainstay.

bt say stadiums sold out..errrr ya,right

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,155 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Can't help but think this line-up, with two proper wing players, would really benefit Benteke.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,470 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    yup.

he doesn't know what he's doing.

any channel showing highlights of this later? Setanta Ireland have Ajax v Celtic on and I dont have BT Sport

As the camera went up along the Liverpool team, I was looking at the players thinking 'that does not look like a Liverpool team.' It just looks average. No Gerrard, no Carragher, no Hyppia. Just averageness.

When are clubs going to learn not to have cooperate seat at the TV side but then maybe they don't want to lose those seats to get the TV cameras in

Got to hit the target there Coutinho.

Does look like they are playing 3 at the back with wing backs and 2 holding players.

    Love a Toure rampage.

Liking the look of Rossiter. Has that air of spikiness about him so badly needed in the team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,155 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Rossiter has a lot to learn and he needs to bulk up but I'd much rather see him in the team than Allen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,438 ✭✭✭livinginkorea

Mig was too slow off his line there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,247 ✭✭✭mosstin

One pass taking out our whole defence.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

Half empty stadium is a surprise although 6 PM start doesn't help.

BT don't seem to that interested on actual commentary

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,155 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

That's such a cheap yellow card, the striker was never getting on to the ball there.
