No doubt millions spent on the rebranding. The new logo looks like a telephone cable from the 80's....oooh, modern!

This has to be a joke!?

Saying "Eir" in an advert will sound like an attempt to vomit.

I have to say, a terrible name to rename too and one that will leave them open to lots of jokes and memes, eir......

Also it looks like they have taken the opportunity to increase their prices significantly!! Their cheapest 100Mb/s broadband is now €62 per month!!!!! Eir.......

That is mad, what the feck are they thinking Eircom!!!

I hadn't noticed this. Is it to rise for existing customers? If so, im out. The "fibre" is bad enough as it is

€16m to drop 3 letters from its name, looks like they have their priorities straight. Shambles of a company.

Edit: Did they run a playschool competition to design their new logo?

16 million? For that shyte? I would have come up with something infinitely better than that for 1/16th of the cost. Feel it's appropriate to just leave this here... 1209_mcmillan_630x420.jpg

I assume new customers only, but it is pretty mad!! Looks like UPC will be gaining lots of new customers.

Who in their right mind pay Eircom €62 for just up to 100Mb/s if you can save €17 a month and get 240Mb/s from UPC for €45!!!!!

    People that can't get UPC.

UPC really isn't that widespread, and isn't an option geographically for a lot. I can't even get UPC TV at home, so Eircom is my only choice (or Sky, Vodafone etc)

UPC aren't available nationwide, I guess that's what Eircom are counting on.

Of course, I meant they will lose lots of customers in areas where UPC are available. Which BTW are the most valuable customers as they tend to be highest density locations and the people who spend more money.

UPC is available to about 1 in 3 homes in Ireland, basically most of the cities.

It also goes to show why we really need SIRO to start up, so that they can offer real competition to Eircom in the non UPC areas.

On the plus side their customer care departments are still based in Ireland, which is more than be said for UPC.

I concur 100%. They now have introductory offers that last for 4 months only:(. Yesterday the those offers were for 6 months. Absolute madness, unless this is a scam:confused:

Isn't most of their customer care still in Limerick?

Any time I call, it always seems to be an Irish person.

I doubt it, it's just a rebranding, whatever corporate entity your contract is with presumably still exists.

In fairness Eircom wholesales prices are rock bottom. Eircom retail are pricing high. Other operators buying off wholesale have room to offer much more competitive rates. E.g. 150mbps FTTH is only €1 more expensive at a wholesale level to 100mbps FTTC.

    Vodafone unlimited is 55euro.

That is inclusive of Landline and Mobile calls... pfff aint nobody got time for that!

apologies I was comparing the new 62 euro offering with Vodafone equivalent not the 38 euro broadband only one.

    As in "Eir....that's it"

Unlimited broadband is €30 per month first 6 months and €45 thereafter with Eir as confirmed with an agent.

Can we just stop for a second and go back to the fact that this cost 16 million euro.

Sixteen brain-splattering million euro?! How on Earth is that possible?

Yes, but it isn't mentioned anywhere on their website. That is very sneaky way of trying to trick people into paying far more then what they actually need to and I really don't like that sort of carry on!

Also it is still €7 more expensive then Vodafone and €10 more expensive then pure telecom for the same. Never mind that UPC would give you broadband at least 2.4 times faster and also unlimited calls for the same price!

You would be mad to pay €24 more for unlimited calls compared to broadband only with Vodafone. Specially when you consider you can get unlimited calls, text and 1GB of data on Tesco Mobile for just €15

This bundle from Eir is a complete waste of money!

If you think about it this is all very tricky by Eircom. They charge top price for the suckers who stay with them out of some misjudged loyalty, while they use the likes of Vodafone, Sky, etc. as a cheaper sellers for people who want a bargain and are willing to change, while Eircom still makes most of the money from these companies via Eircom wholesale.

It also helps Eircom give the impression to all consumers that Broadband is more expensive then it actually needs to be. It takes the pressure off UPC, Vodafone, etc. and also allows them to increase prices too.

Having watched this "eir" FTTH build in Letterkenny since early this year, and allowing myself be sucked into the hype surrounding it, I feel very let down that I won't be able to get it. This despite the fact that the new fibre run is less than 20 meters from my house. I'm out of contract for some time now and will wait to see how FTTH pans out with both companies in Letterkenny before deciding to move. The dearth of basic information from "eir" has been very disheartening...

Customers services have said initial surveys complete and that there should be some "news" in the next week or two. I won't hold my breath though.

16 m to add "open" to the eir they dropped the com from so we can easily tell which is wholesale and which is a horrible excuse for a retail company.

Also, any jokes add to the value of their brand recognition. As a lot of you keep making that point about err sounding like eir.

Unless they write to you, your contract should stay the same.

If they change the price on you, they break their contract and must give you 30 days to cancel without penalty.

My experience with eircom customer care has been overwhelmingly negative. They are the worst company I've ever dealt with. Rather than blowing €16 million on a re-brand, they should consider not treating their customers with contempt.

    This is actually comical -

    Eircom to Eir....

And at 16M rebrand - good to see where Eir...Com are using there resources

    Still crap service

I just noticed the picture on this page is the same as the one used on the old eircom page, it's just photoshopped... Badly

For sure... Isn't the 'old economy' back on track now in the minds of many a company and of course price rises are coming to take advantage of the cash they now assume we are all swimming in. Of course they didn't earn the revenue they should have over the last 6 years so they'll have to make it up by charging more.

We're just starting on the upward boom slope again now until....

I'm in the same boat but went to Vodafone am paying €40 for 70mb lowest speeds I'm getting is 50mb which isn't bad. Signed up to Vodafone bill pay and they knock another €10 a month off my Internet so €30 from my next bill

New brand reminds me of ITV's logo.

They should not have mentioned the cost.

Surprised they are keeping the Meteor brand.
