RWC Match Preview Requests

It's the RWC, the grandest stage of all, the big cahoona so to speak. Time for budding Gerry Thornleys and wannabe Stephen Joneses (ugh) to step up and show us your sports journalism skills. And tables, people, tables! *nod to Emmet ;)

During the biggest competitions there is a lot of interest from posters to write previews for the matches. To make it fair anyone can write up these previews but to avoid confusion or multiple match threads we are offering a way that posters can put their name down against certain games to write a preview for. The games involving 6N and big SH teams will probably generate a match thread of their own, and must be requested here. Games involving smaller nations, such as Wales v Uruguay (:P ) may not generate enough interest for a preview, where a preview has not been requested by the day of the game anyone may start a match thread.
    • First come, first serve. Post on this thread to request a particular match.
    • The 6N and big SH nations games will probably all have individual match threads
    • If you've already done a preview for a particular country you cannot do one again, unless there is nobody else willing/wanting to do one (we'll give the opportunity to re-do another write-up after teams announced)*
    • If you cannot do the write up/preview we will offer it to the next person who requested - if the preview thread is not done 24 hours prior to kick off we will hand it over to the next requester.
    • Anyone can start a build up thread for any game, any time. These threads will be locked once a preview thread is posted.

    * Just a note, the reason we do this is to avoid confusion and also give everyone the opportunity to write a preview.

So with that, here is the first week. Post your match of choice below and we'll put your name against the game.

That 1 hour turnaround from Australia to England for Fiji next wednesday is a disgrace. Tier 2 sides being shafted again...

Can we have 4 pool threads for discussing the pools in general and for the matches that maybe don't warrant a full match thread for themselves? Or are we just going to have a match thread for every match?

We can do, one of the mods will put dedicated threads up by the weekend, just so we have some consistency and don't have threads popping up everywhere.

Now, where are all the volunteers for previews? Come out Molloy, I see you hiding there!

Agree about a general group thread for the day to day chat. Personally I feel that every game deserves some sort of a thread but that's just me.

If there no takers for the opener by the time I get in from work then I'll do the opener. Otherwise I'll do either the Ireland game or France-Italy, again if takers aren't there.

I'll put you down for England-Fiji so, thanks.

Table updated, still plenty of games to preview folks ;)

I can do a thread for Scotland/Japan this Weds.

It won't be much in terms of analysis, just a basic listing of teams and time/date, with reference to the win last weekend, but as I imagine there will be a lot of people *cough* in work, it might be good to have a dedicated thread for updates?

I'm *cough* working from home that day so will happily update as the game goes on.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 14,166 Mod ✭✭✭✭Zzippy

    OP table updated. Thanks stheno.
I'll add this weekend's games later on, just stick your name down here for a game if you want to do a preview.

    I'll take South Africa-Samoa if that's alright?

If you want one for the Argentina game Friday I'll do that or failing that I'll attempt one for England vs Wales?

It'll be like my last effort though.

I don't mind doing a thread. Can do Ireland-Romania or England-Wales if there available

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 14,166 Mod ✭✭✭✭Zzippy

Thanks folks. Stheno doing Argentina-Georgia and paulie21 doing Ireland-Romania, their first preferences. Anyone else?
