Making Irish spelling easy for 7 year old

    Hi jeanb,

Something which might make things easier for her is to say what is going on with "caol le caol agus leathan le leathan". Until you know this Irish will seem like it just has a bunch of "random letters". Your daughter might wonder why "Ceapairí" has an 'e' after the 'c'.

    So, for example:
    Irish has two c's. A 'broad c' and a 'slender c'.
    Ceapairí
    Cat

In "Ceapairí" the 'e' is just there to tell us to use 'slender c', it's not actually pronounced.

It's like this for all consonants (two b's, two r's, e.t.c. a broad and slender version of each).

You know your daughter and can explain this better to her than I, but it's an idea kids often don't have explained to them.
