    ......at any speed

and what's the fastest car you ever owned?

me? Porsche 911S (which I think can do 196 mph) and Mondeo ST200 which I think is rated at 155 mph top speed.

How fast I drove them would be only bull****ting.

I once drove a Lamborghini. I drove it flat out everywhere and was so steady in the corners. A pure sow on fuel though

Much quicker than the normal workhorse though

Ive driven a few but tbh the only one that had utter raw power to me was a Skyline R32. That thing just felt unbridled. Buddy had just picked her up and i took it for a spin the guards pulled us over within approx 2 Minutes flat and i wasnt even speeding, Just sheer acceleration.

They just wanted a gander under the bonnet

Not surprised, it is a very focused driver's car.

Fastest I've driven are the E34 M5, E36 M3 and the Jaguar XJS 5.3 litre. Not saying what speed I did in them!

    I drove a 911 once but only at about 30mph :P

A yellow Lamborghini Murcielago and a red Ferrari 360, both of them in closed track, in the same day. There was an event, where you could drive those for 5 laps each. My wife got me the one as a present, however I payed the second one myself. It was a very rare opportunity to let it go :D

Whats the fastest? hard to say as all my cars have a limiter up to 180km/h.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,373 ✭✭✭✭foggy_lad

Drove a Jaaaaag years ago and it was so fast it had to have two petrol tanks to feed it:D Was on the M1 in the UK and as soon as a police passed by chasing someone else for speeding I opened it up and jaysus it was fast! was hitting about 145mph, was a bit shaky at that speed but the rear wheels hadn't been balanced.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,271 ✭✭✭shamrock55

Ive only ever had boring family cars, but i did once own a jag s type 3l which had a ts of 146mph and did 0-60 in 6.9 secs

fastest ive driven was a mitsubishi evo x not sure of top speed but does 0 -60 in 4.7 secs, that was a fun drive let me tell ya:D

I had a spin in a GT-R that a work colleague has a couple of years ago ... not hooring down a motorway or anything but the acceleration was scary just farting around.

Went as fast as the car would go in a rental in Germany one time, nearly brown trousers when I hit a pothole, a smallish one, definitely tested the suspension though and slowed down a lot after that. Felt a lot faster than it actually was :P

that's exactly why I started this....it's about the car not about how fast you might claim to have driven. What nice cars have you experienced?

Maserati Quattroporte IV (just over 300km/h) on German autobahn and Jaguar XJR (280km/h). Fuel consumption was below 10mpg at that speed. Maser is gone but still have that XJR.

I did a supercar experience day this year and the cars were quite different to what I expected. I drove a Gallardo and F430 which felt very similar. Hard to tell how quick they were on the track, maybe speed sensation would be greater on public roads. I did notice all the cars had a Racelogic box, which I understand is an aftermarket traction control system, but not sure if the cars were restricted power wise as well. They didn't feel that "special" tbh, maybe part of this was they had seat covers in them as well and sill protectors which hid the interiors a bit.

I also got a spin in a GT3, which was great. It was manual and not that it was any faster but it was by far my favorite on that day.

Not a car at all, a Suzuki Hayabusa, I'd imagine in terms of acceleration and possibly even top end, nothing mentioned so far would top it.

    Bmw M5 (e39)
    Bmw M3 (e46)

As for the car ive driven the fastest in?... My old Mazda RX8 once showed me 156mph on the clock :D

    Fastest I've driven = Lightly modified E60 M5

Fastest I've owned = Current car

I consider my own fairly nice, along with a 760i and an S350. Haven't driven anything faster. No harm in a thread like this, but it just turns into little lists of cars which doesn't make overly interesting reading.

Ferrari F2007 of Massa. My brother worked for his team.

But I steer it into garage being pushed. Engine not running :D

I've driven a lot of fast cars but the fastest by far was a 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle with a supercharged race built big block V8 pushing an outrageous 880bhp. It was absolutely terrifying :pac:

Nissan GTR. To borrow a phrase from Clarkson "it's not an accelerator it's a hyperspace button", and it did remind me of an arcade game.

997 Carerra S - liked that car way more than I thought I would.
E92 M3 - I don't care what the "Purists" say, I prefer that V8 over the hallowed S54 in the E46... (*gasp*) Not sure what speed I took it to, was too busy watching the road!
C6 Corvette ZHZ - Another car to exceed expectations, but it was in Florida. No one drives over 70mph there, so I couldn't really open it up much to my frustration.
Ferrari 360 Modena - Supercar experience, wasn't allowed to go over 5k rpm, so don't really know what it's like properly. Probably didn't do much over 100mph in it.
Honda NSX - The car I let slip through my fingers. Still regret that. Loved it, something about that car and me that just connected! :D Probably didn't go much over 115mph, but that would have been in third gear, teaching a young fella behind me in a Honda CRX vti a lesson...
650i was nice too, although even though similar bhp to the 997, it is a different class of car.

Current car is a 2007 RS4 which is pretty rapid.
Have driven a c63 AMG and corvette ZR1 which were great fun too.
Other noteworthy mention to a highly modified Evo 7 a few years ago, that thing had immense grip.

Not too exciting but quick enough, tuned xj6 4.2 manual shift, bout 130mph i'd say.

I definitely need to broaden my motoring experience..
Fastest I've driven was a late 90's Subaru Impreza WRX STi.

Fastest owned? My current cars.. A4 tdi estate, indicated 132mph/measured 129mph on a continental motorway; and my MR2 showed me an indicated 144 mph at one stage, with a GPS measurement of 135mph. The wheels and tyres on the MR2 were incorrect for the car, and that's now since rectified and reading within 1% at the moment.

Evo ix. Not the fastest car in the world but hell I'm getting Smth similar as a Sunday car when funds allow... Just liked the whole experience and it's still suitable as an everyday if need be.
