    Horrific looking on the replay.
End of his World Cup I'd say.

    Great shame for the lad

That's a big blow for Wales World Cup plans

    Hope he recovers soon

Mike Philips into the squad? That would be interesting...

Welsh front row driving at all sorts of angles in the scrum, don't think they've been straight once so far.

Good lord the Italian tackling is dreadful

Oof, looks like Halfpenny's goosed now too.
    Bad day for Wales.

To lose their main kicker and arguably their main source of points is a disaster. Can't see Wales getting out of their group now with Webb and Halfpenny out.

Madness to have left him on that long.

Jon Davies out too. Lee just back and doubts over AWJ.

So much for all their fancy strength and conditioning work...

Disaster for Wales put our game in perspective anyway. Wouldn't write them off to get out of their group but those injuries are a massive setback.

Really if Wales weren't gifted an incorrect penalty at the end there Italy could've won that.

    Final score 23-19 Wales

Seems it's halpennys knee that's hurt

    Wales were far from impressive.

Originally I had England and Wales to get out of that group but can't see it happening now.

Didn't see it, were Italy exceptionally good or were Wales poor?

Seems odd for Halfpenny to have been on so long. Win more important to Fatland than protecting key players?

Wales are going nowhere. It's a serious worry that they beat us. Aussies and Eng will demolish them. Fiji will seriously test them.

Wales are like us under Kidney / Eddie. On their day they can do a big performance but are generally inconsistent.

I'd say they'd no interest in today, their big warm up test was against us and I'd say they did full training this week.

To potentially lose two nailed on starters though is going to dent their chances.

Do you mean the players or the whole Welsh setup? If Gatland and co. really didn't care it seems even stranger to leave the likes of Halfpenny on for so long. Or play them at all.

What a disaster for Wales. By the looks of it Murray was concussed and that was it in terms of injuries for us.

They are on the slide, I agree probably not overly interested today, but their form is patchy nonetheless.

webb was just plain bad luck. Halfpenny was injured trying to change direction on the bounce of the ball and his knee buckled. One post on twitter suggests ACL.

If webb and halfpenny are out, added to Davies, thats half the backline gone

Add in Lee just getting back and AWJ is out for 2-3 weeks and there is Cuthbert in such poor form.

Missed that game - just forgot! Looks like it was disastrous for Wales. Halfpenny would be a huge loss.....according to Gatland he hasn't gone to hospital.

I'd take a punt on Eli Walker if they need another winger.

Wales aren't inconsistent when they are brought to their peak though which I think is quite important. For example in the 2011 World Cup they were pretty consistent. They just need to line things up and when it clicks they're an extremely good side.

Less likely for sure but reckon they might still turn one of them over, couldn't see them topping the group now for sure. They still have reasonably decent goalkicking options so never know could have one big game in them.

Australia are playing the USA later today. Interesting to see how seriously they take it. Their starting 15 isn't weak by any means but it's not their starting 15 for the World Cup. If they've been keeping an eye on today's matches they may not bother risking any of the bigger names.

With all those injuries it looked like Wales tried to play too much rugby today.

    Really random.

If you've warmed up properly that shouldn't happen, let alone after 70 minutes of play.

Fitness is a balancing act, overdo it and you actually end up more fragile, especially in the joints.

Terrible luck for those two if the injuries are confirmed.

Be a shame, really like HP as a player, class all around. Webb is very good too. Would want a full strength Welsh team for the group, like to see them give England and Australia their full measure.

Plenty of talk on twitter about mike Philips and possibly Hook or anscombe being calledup.

Liam williams only just back from foot surgery too. Plenty of injury issues for wales. just as well they have uruguay first.

If they collect any more injuries in the england game then fiji could do them.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,994 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

^I thought Anscombe was injured too. Didn't he do ligaments in his ankle or something like that?

Also, I think this is where Gatland's attitude comes back to bite him. Cutting players in such a public way before the final announcement, then allegedly not telling the players face to face whether they were in or out when the final 31 was chosen. Now he's probably have to go and bring two of them back. Obviously they are professional athletes and aren't going to have a sulk and refuse to join the squad but it's not the ideal situation. These guys, or some of them, knew weeks in advance that Gatland didn't rate them and will know they weren't even close to making the squad. They are literally only getting the call because Gatland is desperate.

Anscombe and Williams are just arriving back from injury, I'm sure whoever they call up will start against Uruguay but it's a nightmare situation for Wales.

The real loss is Webb, they have noone else close to his standard. I really think the presence of Webb could be the difference between them beating England or not.
