When would we realistically expect the N5 2015 to be released in Ireland?

If it exists and is going to be released this year, it will be available in Ireland the same date it is available everywhere else.
It's most likely the very end of October or early November as that was the launch date of the previous phones.

Am I right in thinking you could not buy the Nexus 6 last year straight away on the Irish play store. You had to import it from England or Europe for crazy money? I think it wasn't available on the Irish play store for nearly 6 months after release. I could be wrong, need to find the Nexus 6 thread and read back

Yep found this on the Nexus 6 thread. Can only hope it is different this year, Google can be unpredictable so it's hard to know?

If this is any good will definitely be purchasing. Hopefully will be available in Ireland ASAP.

I know that MP count isn't always a sign of a good camera, but the rumoured rear facing 12.3MP camera isounds a little disappointing to be honest. 8MP front facing camera is welcome though.

I'll be waiting on the sideline for the in depth reviews.

I have been holding out for a new nexus for a while & am just dying to get a new one...hope that they don't hold back the sale of these in Ireland for too long!

Finally Ireland is getting it on launch day! Seems ridiculous it took this long with Dublin being their EU HQ

Any idea what time it will be available from?

Remember the days when a Nexus launch would have a 50 page thread. How times have changed.

2Gb of RAM has me thinking twice about the Nexus 5 , im swaying more to the nexus 6p now :( , it may still turn out to be a rumor but not looking likely.

Tbh I think their premium price and specs for the previous N6 is the cause of it. Their fan base was always decent specs for a decent price and you can tell they messed up, the amount of price slashes that yoke got was unreal the 64GB version went from €650 down to €500 I think, well in advance of the announment too.

Anyone going to take a guess at what it's going to be in Euro? Presume 5X will be €399 and 6P €499 at minimum. Looking like the 6P is the one to go for in any case. Hard to be too excited when ya can pick up a G4 for €400 and an S6 edge for around €550 from eGlobal.

Based on the rumoured US prices I'd by hopeful the 6p will be a little cheaper than that maybe 32GB ~€470 with 64GB €520 and the 128GB €590ish.

Show starts at 5pm Irish time. Hard to now how long after that the store will actually make the devices available.

If there available for pre-order today I wonder how long after that we could expect shipping to happen. Probably go for the 32gb 5x.

Wouldnt be more than 1-2 weeks I would expect. Marshmallow is rolling out Oct 5th so I would expect the new nexus devices to be in hands around then.

Looking like €479 for the Nexus 5 not cheap

That's only the 16GB, the 32GB is €529. I probably wasn't going to buy one anyway but they could have at least tried to tempt me with the price. They're up on the Irish Google Play store for order.

Those prices are a complete joke. €650 for the 6P??? It's $499, even allowing for tax and the usual screw EU currency conversion that's ridiculous. €500 or €550 at an absolute maximum would be an acceptable price. Can't see how they can justify that price. Not a chance I'd buy one for that price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,369 ✭✭✭madmoe

If the 6P is bought in the USA and brought back here will it work OK lads? There is only one version of the phone i.e. one bought here and one bought in the USA are exactly the same!?

    Cheers,

The specs are ok but not amazing, 2gb ram is disappointingly IMO. My interest temporarily swung to the 5x over the past weeks from the moto x style but now I'm swinging back.

Bought an nexus 6 off eBay last week new and sealed in box for €389 did a good bit of research there's two versions an international my one and one for the USA xt1103 which had a different bands for the 4g network the us version won't work on some 4g networks here

I see no mention of Qi wireless charging in the 5x specs, has that been dropped? Hope not, it's really handy.

EDIT: It appears it doesn't have it, nor does the 6P. Tossers.

The Paddy Tax on these is insane. The lowest model is €143 more expensive than in the US.

Once you take into account VAT it's not that bad but it's still about 60 euro on the base model.

Don't they pay sales tax over there too?

They do but I'm pretty sure they'll pay it on top of the advertised price as each state was a different rate.

The US price converted to Euro + 23% is €414. Still a lot less than €479

Some states do, some don't. The rate is usually a lot less than here though. Their prices are before sales tax is added on whereas our prices have VAT included.

    Ugh.

Have to say, this is really underwhelming. Price tag and specs not doing it for me.

In addition, not yet available in the Swiss play store. Think I might just get a Galaxy S5. Had my Nexus 4 for three years :o

Would be tempted by the 6 but.....meh.

    No LED notification light!! WTF?

I'm keeping the N5 till it dies (or put a replacement battery in it). Nothing in the new one to make me want it, especially not at that price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,243 ✭✭✭DECEiFER

Absolutely shocked at the price difference. I was considering an upgrade if it came in at the sub-400 euro mark. That's just taking the piss. Though the UK price starts at £339 and works out cheaper than ours, but not by enough. I'll hold onto my Nexus 4 for a while and upgrade to Marshmallow though CyanogenMod or something else.

So it would seem that LTE/4G Bands 3 and 20, used here, are covered on the US version of the 5X and just Band 3 on the US version of the 6P.

Shipping from the US seems to be cheapest with this crowd (I calculated about $26 for 1kg to Ireland):

The price is the killer for me. I'll be in the states at the end of the month and would buy one if they could be bought in stores but they can't so I'll sit this one out until prices start to drop in Ireland.

Where are you staying in the US? Can you not order it and get it delivered to your hotel or where you are staying? Or maybe it won't be available before you come back?

    Cheers,
    M

The problem is if you get the 6P, it's not going to use Band 20 over here and I don't know to what extent that is used vs. Band 3, only that some networks use both and others use one or the other. The 5X seems to handle both.

You can check this but I don't know how accurate it is:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks_in_Europe

Also, don't forget the possibility of customs, and if you're using Viabox, you should contact them to say how they mark items for shipping, etc. It's always a risk but it's still an option.

Lastly, warranty. It'd be a US warranty but there has to be some sort of way to make use of it over here. Say an American living in the US now moves to Ireland early next year, before the one year is up... Aren't our warranties two years? I seem to remember the Nexus 4 being two years vs. one year in the US, or am I mistaken? I honestly don't know for sure, but these are all things to bear in mind.
