seems a good price, anyway Amazon itself just put it on Promo, too:
89.99 GBP on amazon.co.uk at the moment (approx 122 Eur)
    www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00QJDO0QC

Will be over £92 when you check out.

    Well yes.
I did not try to check.out. Argos Offer is cheaper than Amazon both in case of delivery through ParcelMotel or to an Irish address (due to VAT) .
For 5 Eur difference I admit I would consider buying it directly from Amazon, but that is a personal preference

Does anyone know much about the 'Special Offers' (in other words adverts) that come with the basic Kindle Paperwhite model. Is it worth spending a bit more to avoid them? Apparently they don't appear when you are reading so wouldn't interrupt.

    Any thoughts welcome..

Anyone know if the Argos one is with or without special offers?
Also would you recommend a cover with these? Never had a kindle before but may go for this one.

You can read about the new Kindle Paperwhite here: http://www.cnet.com/uk/products/amazon-kindle-paperwhite-2015/

The basic model seems to have the 'special offers'. However I was just reading some forum and people are saying that the advert are quite unobtrusive: http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle?_encoding=UTF8&cdForum=Fx1D7SY3BVSESG&cdThread=Tx1SBK98DPAYTEE

Argos seem to have two versions available, the Kindle Paperwhite and the New 2015 Kindle Paperwhite.

    Hope that helps!

Apparently all the ones sold in shops have the special offers.

I have one of the older model Kindles with the special offers. As I have my Kindle in airplane mode all the time, I never actually see any offers on it!

Ads only appear on the lock screen i.e. when the Kindle is off and you're not looking a it. You can always pay to have them removed at a later date if they both you.

Thanks guys I think I will go for one :-)

I picked one of these up at the weekend - it had ads... I went on chat with amazon support, I asked them if it was possible to remove the ads, told him I'd bought it in argos and it hadn't mentioned special offers, he turned them off. I'm very pleased :D

Anyone know if these are on offer in any other stores like tesco?

So you'd pay an extra €5 to get it from Amazon, as opposed to a local shop where you could return it if there was an issue?

There's nowt as weird as folk.

Why wouldn't you be able to return it to Amazon?

  • Bought on of these on Saturday from Argos, great bit of kit altogether.

    No reason whatsoever.

But surely it'd be easier to drop it back to your local Argos and get a replacement there and then?

No. Argos are terrible for returns. Amazon are always top notch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,929 ✭✭✭dubmick

I find both excellent for returns

Agreed, both are easy for returns. But Argos has that crap car park on a busy road whereas Amazon has a print at home return label so you don't have to leave the house. So now what's easier?

    This is simply not true.

Myself along with many others have actually praised Argos because they are so easy to deal with in relation to returns.

My Xbox stoped working with about a week to go on the warrenty and Argos replaced it no questions asked.

Do you not have to leave the house to bring the package to the post office ?

There's plenty of kindle covers on adverts.ie at the moment at more than reasonable prices too, cheaper than what I could find on amazon and argos: http://www.adverts.ie/for-sale/q_eReader/

Must be my local store then. Manager is an ass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,026 ✭✭✭✭adox

Gone back up in price on Amazon so Argos is the place to get them now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭millie12345

Looks like Argos offer is over too. Any offers anywhere else?

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 26,403 Mod ✭✭✭✭Peregrine

Yeah, Argos raised the price on the 10th.

I, too, got the special offers removed for free by Amazon right after I bought it from Argos two weeks ago.

If anyone sees any more bargains on cases for these, let me know.

Did you ring or e-mail them? Or was it through their web site?

It was live chat. I don't think they have phone support in Ireland.

I just feigned ignorance about Special Offers, asked for help with 'ads like "100 titles for $2.99" on my screensaver and at the bottom of my homepage' and he put in a request to remove it for free. It was gone the next morning.

If it comes down to it, tell them the Argos product details didn't mention Special Offers.

Kinda regretting not pulling the trigger on this when I had the chance.

Hopefully drops again in price soon.

I tried to use live chat and they tried to charge me 10 GBP to turn off the offers. I said the device was bought in Argos and there was no mention of Ads in the product description or on the box. They siad they'd make a one off exception and waive the charge ... The kindle is ad free and the Wife is happy :-)

Damn you LizardKing, I thought this was back on sale.

    I thought the exact same!

Looks like Argos is still the cheapest for this at €149.99?

Not sure would it be wroth waiting for Black Friday to see if it reverts back to €120?

Considering getting one for my 86yo father.

About a week ago my wife spotted that the date the price was valid until changed from 26/11 to 21/11, so I've been keeping an eye on this. The price has just dropped to €120 again and I have mine reserved. :)

Feck, I bought this last month for 149 after my youngest threw my old one in the bath!

Though I have to say I notice no difference between the 2nd and 3rd gen. If anything I find the new one slippier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,021 ✭✭✭Miike

Buying one of these tomorrow. Hoping to have the adds removed for free also, as it doesn't mention them in the product description.

Well it's the lowest price Argos have had it for and Amazon are currently charging about the same, so it's unlikely you'll do any better than that.

Also available for €99.99 from Amazon.de, although you will need to use a delivery service to get it to Ireland - not sure how much that would cost, someone else may advise

Got one yesterday. Ads removed for free after I got onto live chat.

I was meeting resistance to get it done for free but just.... be flirty...

Same here, although the resistance was minimal to be fair. He said he'd remove them for GBP 10, so I just said it was OK because I didn't want to pay that much, but that I was annoyed with Argos for not mentioning them. Less than a minute later he came back saying that because I was such a good customer he'd remove them for free. To be honest I'm not sure how much he would have enjoyed me being flirty with him. :D

Here's the kicker... My rep was also, a man ;)

  • Just reserved one of these babies. I was eyeing one up last month when it was €150 in Currys....when I went to buy it they had put them up to €160 which upset me.

I know full well it has ads but I'll definitely try bull****ting to an Amazon CS rep.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,087 ✭✭✭BeepBeep67

    In Curry's now for €119.99

  • lol jeez! :D I remember when I was first thinking of getting it from Currys. It didn't say on the website if it was the one with the ads or not. I rang up their customer support. After about ten minutes or trying to explain my question he came back and said the ads were only in the apps! I gave up...

Just got £60 in gift certificates for Amazon this morning as a present so ordered the Kindle Paper White straight away.

£79 is an excellent price. Would have bought it in a b&m if not for the vouchers.

Did you not pay for delivery of the gift certs though?
