Looking for advice please- couple of acres of land some in forest most in grass and looking to clear it of briars/ long grass and fence it off for putting some animals in in ie pony for the kids or goat. Lot of trees. Need pruning back on site and few drains needing sorted. Was advised mini digger with a loader would do most of the work but was looking at a compact tractor as an option also. Budget is 4/5 k euro not much I know! And the mini diggers seem like hens teeth compared to a few year ago. Thanks in advance.

Hire out a mini digger for 100 euro a day

agree fully. You do a lot of work on a 3ton mini digger in a 12 hour day

A good operator with an 8 tonne digger for a day @ 300 would be the best value for a job like that.

If you want your own machinery you could buy an old cheap vintage tractor off done deal and a 6 foot topper to keep the place tidy but hire a guy to do the work with digger first.

Your best option is MF 35, Fordson Dexta . A vintage tractor like these two is cheap to buy and with a big range of attachments also cheap to buy ,eg. Plough, harrow ,cement mixer, trailer, transport box ,topper the list is endless.
If you buy a tractor is good condition it will work at what you need for years with just basic maintance . Make sure it has a tax book and you can collect, deliver near home as well. Hireing a digger is the only way to go because once you have finished you digging there is not a lot else to use a digger for. The reason for an older tractor as apposed to a new compact tractor is cheaper parts availability and much easer to find help someone to work on vintage tractors for reasonable money.

Still on the hire end - a tractor with a hedge cutter will fly through the scrub and briars - hire a digger if needed- but buy a small tractor for maintenance -
