Mac donnaghs hell no I never understood the appeal of that chipper

Oranmore used to have the best burger and chips been a couple of years so that could have changed

best bag of chips (not price, they're bloody expensive!) is the Fisherman in Salthill... luvly jubbly

I hav yet to try the fisherman in salthill, I think salthill fish and chips hav gone down hill a bit, it used to be nice but chips bit on greasy side lately, also vinnys on Dominic street gone down hill... Although at 3am don't think anyone would notice...

Kettle of fish off quey street do a nice fish and chip also...

    My top 3 would be:

    Nico's

    Mc donnagh's

    Jack Jordan's

Blast from the past thinking here, anyone remember DELL RIO'S , salthill....
That would prob be no. 1 today.... ???

Anyway id say McDonaghs has improved, Kettle of Fish can be very good but can be hit and miss and Vinnies is great after the Roisin.

Hooked do some great auld chips.
The Kebab shop on Dominic St do some strangely delicious ones (strange because they are not proper chips).
Mc Donagh's hit and miss but when they are good they are very good.

All else has disappointed me more than 2 times

    Hooked.

Had mcdonaghs a few weeks ago, first time in years. Pretty good.

Vinnies is very good anytime I've had chips there.

The last few times I've had chips from kebab house they've not properly cooked.

    I can't commit to one.

Capone's in Knocknacarra do great chips.

The Fisherman and Salthill Fish and Chips are lovely too.

This could be controversial... but I really really love Supermac's chips if they're straight from the fryer. If they're not burning hot, forget about it. But there's a magic 10-15 minutes where they're godly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭Falf

Only thing I like in supermac's is there 5oz burger it's the only thing that tastes a bit homely.... As for the kebab house, now that's asking for trouble, got a burger in there one night and the bun was half frozen.... I'd say a good fish and chip shop were the kebab house is now would do very well... I think that kebab house has passed its time...

Just had a bag of chips from giovanni's in oranmore, not bad, there like vinnies on a good day... Norio's in merlin pk is good also...

Oslo in Salthill do unreal chips, nothing like a pint and a portion of those chips on a Sunday afternoon. Vinnies do good chips as well and out Oranmore side, Giovanni's is really good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 256 ✭✭wintear

Thanks for the tip of Giovannis in Oranmore.
Best bag of chips I've had in a long while.

Oslo's chips are good alright. They do a fantastic steak sandwich. Skip their 1kg bucket of wings tho. They're just fried, plain, unflavoured wings. Best wings, now that's a whole other thread.

    Oslo's chips are good alright.

There's some serious eating in those chips though. Had a portion yesterday for lunch and was still nicely full 3 hours later.

Vinnys in Dominick Street are the best for me.

As for Hooked I can't see why people rate that place so highly. I live next door and have been about 5-6 times and think it's average at best. Chips are regularly undercooked too from my experience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭Falf

Vinnies can be hit and miss...
I must try the Oslo getting good reports on it, although not a chipper..

I was out saturday night and was back the west, I went for food after pub, tryed vinnies but it was full so I went over to the kebab house (brave move after the las time i was there) and got a chicken kebab meal, must say kebab wasn't bad at all although i wounldnt like to try there doner kebab not good from what i hear, chips i got with meal were rank preheated and full of grease, like the burger I got before, as I said before I think this place has out played its slef, a good fish & chip shop here would do well.. A gold mine I would think if the right on was there...

Why are you quoting and question mark-ing your own post, maybe ease off the chips and/or grease.

Had bacon cheese chips in Vinnie's on Saturday night. My only complaint was that after I had finished eating them, I had to fight the urge to get MOAR!!! :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭Falf

Take it easy mr Ben and mr sandman,

??? Was meaning, what do you think of my post as regards to kebab house....

As for the chips and grease, isn't this what this form is about, finding out what chipper is best in Galway....

    Nice chips = less grease....

The batter on them is amazing

I got them twice Ben, both times they were made to order so can't comment on ones that were left out for a while :)

Got a bag of chips in Jack Jordan's a while back when I was passing. They were grand but it was the smallest bag of chips I've ever gotten from a chipper.

Aroma in Headford do the best chips in County Galway hands down.

I'm going to be racking up the mileage on the car when visiting Oranmore, Claregalway and Headford for bags of chips :D
