Friends First Laragh Classic, Sunday, September 13

Now incorporating the Leinster Road Racing Championships

ST. TIERNAN’S CYCLING CLUB proudly presents the third renewal of the Friends First Laragh Classic Road Race, this September in County Wicklow.

After making its debut on a Classics-style circuit back in 2013, hosting only riders up to A3 grade, the epic one-day has progressed to installing an elite A1/A2 race, as well as a dedicated A3 event and an A4 event.

In 2015, the Friends First Laragh Classic will also incorporate the Leinster Road Racing Championships, won last year by Sean McKenna, who was second in the Laragh Classic 24 hours later.

There will be increased prize money thanks to Friends First’s increased sponsorship and further prizes from this year’s additional sponsors – to be announced shortly.

One thing that is set to be left completely unchanged is the course; it remains that hilly, narrow 24km circuit around the back roads from Laragh to Garryduff, Moneystown, and Annamoe. There are fast descents, technical descents and tricky climbs, on varying surfaces that best describes as Classics roads.

We look forward to seeing you at this year’s Race for the Fabled Wicklow Cobble – it’s the last road race of the season, so where else would you be?

Online Registration will be open soon.

What sort of finish is there? Is it on the descent?

Is this the same course the vets used earlier in the season for the Dermot McGrath memorial?

    No, tis much hillier!

Great race. I rode this in A4 in its first year, adnit was fantastic. Couldn't make it last year, so looking forward to the A3 this year.

Rode the circuit on saturday morning, and entered online. The circuit is bumpy and narrow in parts, but no moaning allowed, it's designed to be a proper 'race of falling leaves' so the sketchy road surface is all part of the challenge.

The finish is up at the Roundwood end, on a draggy section. It's a hard finish. The whole race will be tough.

Good few of the Swordsies going, might have support car. It might be needed on this one. Tour of Flanders eat your heart out, great hardmans race.

    ****ENTRIES CLOSING****

Online entries for Sunday's Friends First Laragh Classic, incorporating the Leinster Championships, will close at 1PM on Friday.

Quick question - after registering online, do I need to bring any kind of print out showing this for Sunday? Assume I still need to sign on as normal?
    Cheers

    @Kevinleeowen

Once you've signed up online you'll be on our list. You just need to sign on as normal - showing yourCycling Ireland License etc.

Survival of the wettest out there today!

Similar but probably worse weather than when I did it two years ago. Glad to make it around without getting dropped this time!

Some pics by the fab Karen Edwards are up on our website. More to follow.

Sean Rowe was also out with his camera (and was better prepared for the deluge than nearly everyone else).

Epic conditions so well done to everyone who took part. You lot are the real hardmen of Irish Cycling. Respect!

Congrats to Damien Donlon on his win in his first race!
all within Swords knew he was far to strong for an A4 race but he had to start somewhere, His first race was only a few months ago in our club league.

Shame he had a fall on the second lap, He somehow got back on and did this

    Broken clavical.

Have I got this right... he fell during the race, broke his collarbone, got back on and went to win?

He rode off the front of the A4 bunch on the first hill. Held them off for the rest of the race in appalling conditions. Crashed, broke his collarbone. Got back on and won.

And he was grinning every time he passed my spot. Was amazing to watch.
