I suspect that the free delivery is to UK addresses only as I have found that 7dayshop now charge for Ireland. Maybe I will be pleasantly wrong!

Edit: Went to buy two and it seems to be free P&P to Ireland

Should a phone really need that much power (2a) to charge?

The only power issues I have had is with bad cables or long cables.

I've been kind of unlucky with white lately..ref Logitech K400 Plus (white) thread ;)

Since the screens and batteries have been getting bigger (around the time the S3, Z2 and HTC One came out) Samsung have supplied 2amp chargers with the S3, Note 2, S4, Note 3 & S5. The odd time I've been stuck and had to use one of the older cables from say the S2 or HTC Desire it will just keep the battery level steady, it won't charge it up fully unless turned off.

Definitely for a tablet or phablet I'd say 2amps is a must but that's just for me personally.

Were you not able to get one? Mine got delivered today, haven't opened it yet but it was a steal at 7.50. Sometimes the smallest bargain alerts are the most satisfying :-)

Apart from some of the monsters that need it.

A lot of recent phones charge a lot faster with more amps.

4.5Amp charger with mine. Boost baby boost!

Normally though 1.5 is enough for decent charge rates.

I actually have the white Samsung charger already. Very good charger.

Google how some of the cheaper generic chargers can overheat and melt, chronic.

My original one lasted about 2 years and gave up the ghost.
Then bought one from CarPhoneWarehouse aboit a year back for €12.99 (reduced from 20 odd).

So this is a good price at ~€7.26

Think I'll go for another white one, they're far easier to spot amongst a pile of random Android black chargers!

Are these fast charge 2.0 compatible?
Edit: I see this is not the same one that's bundled with the GS6 (which is confirmed to be fast charge compatible)
    https://www.7dayshop.com/products/official-samsung-ep-ta20uwe-2-amp-uk-mains-charger-s6-s6-edge-note-4-WH2-EP-TA20UWE

It does however have the same output?

It has the same output but I'm not familiar with quick charge so I can't state if it does comply with it. It charges my S5 from almost flat in about 90 minutes.

Power is measured in Watts, Amps denote current, i.e. the flow of charge. The more of them, the faster it will charge (providing your phone is rated to withstand the incoming current).

Can I ask where you got a 4.5amp charger?

I think quick charging does something clever like parallel charging internally. I forget exactly. But the charger and phone have to support the same standard.

I like to have overspec'd power supplies so they are not running near their limit. I got an 90W dell PSU to replace a 65W one and it runs much cooler and reckon it will last longer. Also just future proofs it, I was able to use my laptop PSU to power other peoples laptops who did need the 90W

Your phone, or anything else, will only draw what it can.

If you have a 1500mA battery, and use a 2A charger, it can only ever draw a max of 1500mA.

Your phone will only draw what it can but thats not how it works, batteries are rated in mAh (milliamp hours) not mA.

    Sterling + shipping + brand = no

OP is sterling also & more expensive, for a single port.

    This is 1 + 2 amp ?

Free shipping in UK plus Parcelmotel.

PM is €3.95, with that factored in you might find a cheaper dual port one.

I bought 5 of em, so average cost much lower for same PM price :)

I have used them & they do what they say on the tin.

It an unknown brand with no reviews to speak of.

    Its a gamble.

That said I have no idea what amps the Samsung one puts out. But as a sweeping generalisation the branded ones generally do what they say. I tend to look for ones with 2.1 or 2.4 amps that are better able to charging tablets and usually charge much faster when supported.

The length and quality of the cable you are using is also a factor, in charging speeds and compatibility.

I've also used a few of these

I think with the cheaper ones you can get lucky and unlucky with the quality of them.

    Ditto the cables

I haven't taken 1 apart or even given them too much inspection but they seem identicially to other Samsung chargers I have around.

I'm not convinced they are. I purchased one from carphonewarehouse last year and there are some differences.

    1) The writing on the side of the 7dayshop one is slightly blurry.
    2) Some of the plastic on the back of the detachable 2 pins looks a bit rough.

It could be perfectly genuine but...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 245 ✭✭doniem

From my experience i have come across over half a dozen different versions of genuine Samsung chargers. A different one seems to come with every Samsung device i buy. There are different ones where the usb cable plugs into the top, bottom, left, right and front sides of the charger. As well as that i have seen them in a block type shape as well as a flatter more elongated shape.

    Example 1

    Example 2

    Example 3

I also bought several from the Carphone warehouse after i saw it posted here last year and they are absolutely fine. In fact the only reason i ended up looking on other sites was because the new Carphone warehouse site is a pain to navigate on mobile, so when i recently needed some chargers i ended up buying from 7dayshop. when i got them and saw they were genuine i felt it was a bargain compared to €12.99 which i had previously been paying Carphone warehouse for the same thing.

Hmm, I did a bit of googling and found the amazon page of the charger (which the default seller is 7dayshop)

You can see that a fair few reviews state that it isn't genuine and it blew up so I'm honestly not too sure if it is the real deal or not.
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B00CKQU6ME/ref=cm_cr_dp_hist_one?ie=UTF8&filterBy=addOneStar&showViewpoints=0

Here is the offical samsung page of the charger
    http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/mobile-devices/accessories/connectivity/ETA-U90UBEGSTD

If anybody has digital scales, they could measure the weight of the charger (which according to the page is 116.56g) as many cheapo chargers are lighter due to the lack of safety components. I've emailed samsung to see if 7dayshop are a authorized retailer and also emailed 7dayshop themselves (to confirm that these are indeed genuine)

Still have yet to hear back from 7dayshop and samsung even though I sent off the email back on Friday morning. Think I will be returning it as a precautionary measure - I don't want to run the risk of it being a non genuine article.

I'd be getting in touch with them, both lots I ordered were delivered 3 or 4 days after dispatch

I purchased 2 of the chargers from 7dayshop and they both have the same serial number. That to me means they are fake so be careful with them.

So i need a spare charger with 2amps in it.

Is this a genuine samsung charger or just an imitation?

Anyone could recommend a 2amps reliable charger? I've seen some fake ones and can seriously cause accidents
