I've learned a bit of Java over the years, but mostly under one API, which was a terrible idea. I know a tiny bit of python, like I can make a text adventure game in it but that's about it :P You don't need any experience though! Everything is from scratch:)

I'm using a Dell xps 15 laptop with 8gb of ram and a i5 with 640m graphic tis ok but I'm not going to bring the desktop :)

I carry the desktop hopefully I put a handle on it to make it easyer. If I have to get a laptop it will be a lenovo thinpad x201 used on amazon. Hope to see you there.

That's a little overkill... for programming you don't need beefy PC's, I've used a crappy Inspiron 1545 for Java and stuff, compilations don't seem to need all that much :P Like I'll be using a simple Dell inspiron N5040, pretty average machine and it'll do the job perfectly.

Sully, do you use GitHub in the course much? As in, is it acceptable to have private repo's and submit programming assignments through that by adding them to it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40 159conor

The Thinkpad isnt to expensive or extremely powerful it is currently 114 pounds on amazon with a killer keyboard in 12 inch form. My desktop overkill for programing but just powerful enough for games like kerbal space program. No idea about private repos I try and ask a freind 2 years above us about that.

I hope you don't have to move that thing from college to home often 20kg computers are very hard to move. I also have a old powermac g4 (20kg ) almost need two people to move it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 417 ✭✭rosmoke

It's actually very light, only 2.54 kg the 15" one.

nope its worse its a full desktop and you will have to carry the monitor in you other hand Its a "mac pro" I was thinking it was odd for a student to have a 3000 euro 7 year old workstation.

I actually agree, you can do nearly everything you want on a phone as long as the screen is big enough :) and of course you don't start playing angry bird :0

Far point with a 18 meter phone I would open the camera and wait for birds to fly into it.

suppose you could install vnc and connect to the pc back at base carry a little keybord and mouse. You would look very odd but it would work.
