Out on 28th August, anyone else thinking this could be good? Will wait for reviews but would love a good horror game.

From early impressions in some early reviews (sites I've never heard of) this is getting some pretty good scores.

The embargo is up at 4 so we should have a much better idea. If the reviews are good I think I might pick this up!

    From NeoGAF:

    IGN - 7.5
    GameSpot - 8
    Polygon - 6.5
    Jim Sterling - 9.5
    Kotaku - YES
    TheSixthAxis - 8
    Destructoid - 7
    GameRant - 4/5
    VideoGamer - 8
    OnlySP - 9.2
    Press Start - 8
    GameCloud - 9
    Cybershack - 4/5
    PlayStation LifeStyle - 7.5
    GameReactor - 8
    GamesRadar - 3.5/5
    Metro - 6
    Push Square - 8
    USGamer - 3.5/5

It seems to be around the 8 mark, with Polygon and Metro being the usual outliers.

Sounds like it's right up my street but can't justify 60 quid on it. Sounds like the perfect Xtravision rental for a tenner though.

Looks good, nice voice cast to. (Mr Robot and John Abruzzi!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭tok9

Yup I'm going to pick this up on the US store.

Looks like a laugh, will give it a shot. There is a companion app available too. Not sure what it does while you play yet:

Got it off the US store. Had a quick go before work this morning. Only got through the first 30 mins but I can tell I'm going to have some craic with this later.

Couldn't wait till Friday to get it, had to make sure I get it finished before metal gear!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭tok9

I am the exact same, needs to be complete before MGS.

It's reasons like this that I enjoy games that don't overstay their welcome.

Going to wait until Friday and give this a proper bash at weekend; feedback seems mostly positive thus far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭tok9

Well I've started off pretty badly! :)
    Two dead already
    just from the tutorial.

Looks excellent and I'm really looking forward to playing it, but apparently it's not worth the full price.
Even with the whole butterfly effect (choices/consequences) stuff, it won't interest most people enough for them to play it again. I hear it's only 7 - 10 hours long also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,313 ✭✭✭blaa85

Got a few hours in. I'm loving it so far. Acting, graphics and atmosphere is fantastic. Your constantly on edge so the split second decisions turn you into a mess.

I'd say I'd find replay value by playing the game completely recklessly on a second run.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭tok9

Nice 7-10 hour game is perfectly fine with me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,783 ✭✭✭heebusjeebus

I wont get time now to play this until the day I return from Electric Picnic.
I'm gonna be so un-hinged playing this :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,878 ✭✭✭Robert ninja

Just watched a streamer I sometimes view play this for about 40 mins. Could literally be played as a DVD game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,961 ✭✭✭markcahill1985

So guys from what you've seen is this worth the 60 bucks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 988 ✭✭✭Zeouterlimits

So guys from what you've seen is this worth the 60 bucks
I generally think that's a very personal decision.
Even more so when it comes to more narrative heavy adventure & choice games.

From what I've heard the level of effect / variation based on your decisions are better than most, but it's not exactly emotionally affecting like TWD or the kind of trust games of Wolf Among Us.

It is a schloky teen horror slasher flick through and through.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭tok9

I haven't played it today but I really enjoyed what I played yesterday. As Zeouterlimits said, it's more so your own personal opinion. Length has never been an issue with games for me so I'll actually be pretty content if this is a short fun experience instead of dragging out an extra 5-10 hours of padding.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭tok9

It's really good so far anyway. I'm about 2-3 hours in. I'm just about to start the 5th chapter I believe.

The totems you pick up which basically show you premonitions of your possible future are really cool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,961 ✭✭✭markcahill1985

Will pick this up tomorrow after work; looking forward to it

This is available for €58 in Argos

This is available for €58 in Argos

    €58.99 ;)

    €74.99 in GameStop
    €69.99 in Xtra Vision

Fair play to Argos for always having every new release for cheaper.

    GameStop are a disgrace.

    €60 on PSN btw.

Finished it last night. Money well spent imo. Took 8-9 hours but then this is a game with no restarts or continues etc.

Made some stupid decisions under pressure which cost a few lives and when I think back, they were all classic horror movie mistakes!

There is definitely replay value in this. After metal gear is finished, I'll be having another go.

BTW, if you have a ps camera hooked up, it records you secretly during the jumpy parts in the game. Didn't try it myself, didn't want to look up anything about the game till I finished it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,058 ✭✭✭Unearthly

Had good fun with this, if you liked games like Heavy Rain then you will like this.

    What ending did people get?
Mike and Emily my 2 survivors, she was my least favourite character, should have shot her when I had the chance :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭tok9

I still have another few hours to go I think but I have had my first proper death so far.

It's in chapter 4 where you take over
Chris and I had to choose between saving Josh or Ashley and I didn't see any other way to save both so I killed Josh. It looked like I could have done nothing but I couldn't take the chance.
    :(

    Things aren't looking great for
Matt, Emily or Jessica either though

Going to start Chapter 5 (maybe 6 actually) in a bit. Really am enjoying the game a lot.

Got this in Argos this morning and they gave me a €5 voucher that lasts till the 22/09 :)

    Slightly cheaper MGS5 for me!

Just completed it there. I'm not sure what genre this is exactly but I actually really really liked it. If you were to compare it to games like Heavy Rain, then this is easily a much better game.

In the end, only 3 people survived in my game.. well maybe 4 actually but 3 definitely. I did two extremely stupid things which got 3 people killed.

This is one of those games that I really think I'll go back to and replay to get other endings.

You're right. How long would the tenner get the game for? A week?

Haven't rented a game in like 10 years..

I think it's 3 nights, haven't rented off them yet as 3 nights would get me nowhere, id say they would get a lot more rentals if it was even 5 nights.

Playing this with the headphones on is not good for the nerves; enjoying it so far; only about and hour and a half in

I'll pass then. I remember them doing week rentals at decent rates back years ago. Quick preowned buy next week and sell for a small loss it is then

I can't wait to play this game

I've already gone back for more. The cool thing is you can go back and replay episodes to change what happened.

So now I've saved everyone... and I want to go back again and kill everyone! :P

Couldn't help myself so I just went for the platinum and got it last night.

Highly recommend the game lads. Now might not be the best time for it with MGSV coming out but I imagine it'll be on sale around halloween and it's well worth a play though by yourself or with others. It's a fun experience either way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 213 ✭✭matty55

Just finished it couldn't recommend it more. Fantastic story, brilliant acting and brilliant replay value.

P.S. Does anyone else think the Mike character looks a little bit like Nathan Drake :P

On chapter 7 at the moment myself and loving it. Atmospheric as all hell and looks amazing to boot.

Lost a couple of people already but I will probably have another couple of plays through at some stage to do things differently because I like the game that much. I haven't replayed a game since PS1 days :)

Odd to say that two of my favourite games so far this year, Until Dawn and Life is Strange, have been the ones with the least "gameplay". Maybe that's more of a condemnation of the industry as a whole than anything else :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,070 ✭✭✭MarkY91

This game makes no sense at times.
like when the cock guy is in s mine, his gf just died and the killer guy clearly got shot in the face by me or at least shot at. So he just decided to have a casual stroll back to his house..as you do after almost getting s bullet in the face and surely knowing you're being chased

    I'm liking it otherwise haha.

Finished my first playthrough; only 3 survived my game! Thoroughly enjoyed the game; excellent atmosphere and would recommend playing with headphones! Not sure I'll play through again; does just playing episodes make any difference or do your start all over?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,070 ✭✭✭MarkY91

Only 2 died in my playthrough. Big twists in the latter chapters!

You can play episodes to make a difference but you have to continue from there onwards.

As in if you start chapter 6 then you need to complete 7-10 for the changes to take effect. You can't just play chapter 6 and then skip on to 10.

That said I really enjoyed replaying through the latter chapters and you can actually get through pretty quick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,961 ✭✭✭markcahill1985

So played through again yesterday and managed to save everyone, two playthroughs and really enjoyed both. Decided today to trade in and get some of my money back, got EUR31 in CEX having biught for EUR58.

Happy with that and really enjoyed the two weekends I spent playing, not bad for EUR 27 net spend! Would highlighy recommen to anyone interested, 8/10 for me.

Finally got to play this. The story is standard teen slasher fair, the only scares are cheap jump scares and the whole butterfly effect thing is just to disguise the fact that all you are really playing is a visual novel. However the whole interactive choice elements really elevate the game to something a lot better than the sum of its parts. If it was a film it would be a decent but predictable slasher flick. The interactive elements make it a whole lot more engaging and it even makes a great party game, like watching a horror flick with mates but with arguments breaking out over the choices. It's ultimately Heavy Rain but not ****. While that game had delusions of pretension and failed massively on delivering a decent story, this has no delusions, it's a basic slash flick and it does it well. Even when the writing isn't so good it fits in with the whole B movie feel of the plot (and said moments might even be intentional). Needless to say it's a whole heap of fun and even better when experienced with a few mates.

Almost finished my first play through of this, lost 2 so far. The first was a button misclick, during the impromptu shooting scenes I'd taken to pressing L2 out of "zoom" habit and missed the R2 timing.
Second one was a stupid decision, in hindsight I'd be warned about a situation like that happening but I ploughed ahead regardless. Literally as soon as I made the initial decision, I knew I'd messed up. They were both my preferred characters too!

Is anyone else under the impression there are not so subtle hints at what you should pick? When it comes to a decision where you see the characters face their eyes tend to repeatedly drift to one of the options? Maybe I'm overthinking it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

    Finished it.
3 survived in the end. 1 was the character I hated most!

    1 dead from a mis-click
    1 from a silly choice
    1 from an incorrect choice
1 from assuming they would do something while I made my choice (not sure why they didn't)

Going to go back and play from the Chapter where I mis-clicked.

I seem to have missed the "Left Behind" butterfly too.

Finally got around to watching Mr Robot... Taught the main character looked familiar until I checked imbd and it's Josh, unreal.

Finished it last night. Only 3 survived in my play-through. When I lost Chris I was genuinely devastated!

Good game - sound effects, music and graphics were all top notch. Had all the hallmarks of a high budget horror flick. Not sure if I'd be arsed going back to replay any of the episodes though. 8/10.

Might just trade it in. I'm new to console gaming - anyone know where I could trade in against FIFA/PES 16?

You'll get 38 quid cash in CEX; then buy Fifa in argos
