At times like this I ask myself

    What would Jeremy Clarkson do?

You can't beat opening the packet, lovingly tearing apart the cellophane strip to reveal the cottony wonder of a new shirt.

Tuck it inside your pants man. But it's adding real bloodstains that really gets the female juices flowing. It's primal, and they can't resist it.

Best of luck, my friend. Best of luck.

It largely depends on the shirt. If it is a formal shirt, then absolutely always stuck into your pants. If it isn't as dressy, then outside would be fine.

Only button the top of the shirt and leave the rest open. No one will mess with you then

Well if you relate more to Charlie in two and a half men you wear it out, if you're more like Alan you tuck it in

Tucked in if you're into country and western music.

The other way if you're normal.

Tuck it in, but leave the corner sticking out through your fly. You'll be fighting off women in no time.

It depends on the setting really. Personally I mostly go tucked in myself.

Tucked in, it's a shirt not a t shirt, oh and for some reason apparently short sleeve shirts are a huge NO for a man.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,661 ✭✭✭✭kneemos

    Before 6pm shirt in.After 6 shirt out.

Depends on how big your belly is. If you have a beer belly of pregnant woman proportions then tuck that thing in. Otherwise just let the shirt hang out.

Something very wrong about a short sleeve shirt.

Depends on the shirt. A casual shirt tucked in looks like you were dressed by the mammy.

I think it depends on ones weight.Average weight in,tubbies out.

I'd personally feel like a traveller wearing one.

I'm quite a conservative dresser so I tuck in my shirt and my Aran jumper.

I'd tuck in my duffel coat as well but they're not in fashion any more.

Depends on the shirt to be honest.

Inside jeans, inside underpants, outside codpiece.

As long as you don't tuck your tracksuit bottoms into your socks you're good ;)

If a fitted shirt, then it's inside - unless you are too overweight to carry it off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,328 ✭✭✭conorh91

Almost never outside the belt. It just feels inappropriate. If you want to be casual, just wear a sweater. Putting on a shirt without tucking it in is like wearing a tie without a knot.

Shirt in,same if your playing a game,Jersey always tucked in.

Sundays are more relaxed, you'll get away with shirt out.
    After mass of course.

Properly fitted shirt, decent jeans (not your next, wrangler stuff), quality shoes in.

Casual looking shirt, dress down shoes, out.

You'd know by the cut of the shirt really if it should be tucked or not.

Eh? You're either playing sh*t (or not at all) or like playing with a waist wedgie if a jersey stays tucked in for a whole game...just not possible

If it is the type of shirt that needs to be tucked into pants do not wear it with jeans!

Shirts worn with jeans should be untucked unless you are the type who attends Rodeos!

This seems a bit of outdated. Clothes have come on a lot over the past 10 years in terms of fit.

I think people are imagining these huge, baggy shirts tucked into Dad-jeans.

I find a trim-fitting shirt tucked neatly into suitable trousers (even jeans) is a much neater look than letting your shirt hang out like a teenager.

Shirt inside jeans is very middle class in fairness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,005 ✭✭✭Letree

There is also that age when men start to tuck everything in, shirts, polo shirts, t shirts... When is that and why??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,846 ✭✭✭✭Liam McPoyle

Short sleeve - never, ever tucked in.

Long sleeve - mostly tucked in, there can be exceptions mind you.

I would say it's very country class. It's the staple weekend attire for every muldoon town in the land!

Then there's the belt over or under the belly.

    Decisions decisions.

Shirt in with nice belt and wrangler jeans can't go wrong

It depends on how old and/or fat you are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,794 ✭✭✭Aongus Von Bismarck

Depends on your age I suppose. A shirt hanging out might be okay if you're a student; you bought the shirt in Top man, and you're in a club that smells of sweat and aftershock.

Work, formal occasions, going on a date - tucked in. If you're still wearing your shirt out in your 30's then I'd consider an hour with a personal shopper. They'll give you some hard-earned advice on dressing age appropriately.

But I think we are talking about with jeans in particular, rather than shirt in or out in general. You are not likely to be wearing jeans in situations where formal dress is required.

Jeans just don't really go with the type of formal shirt that needs tucking into pants.

I haven't read all the replies yet so might have already been mentioned.

It's quite simple, if you open a shirt from a pack with the multiple annoying bits that you have to pull out, it's meant to be worn tucked in. If you buy it 'off the rail', never tuck it in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,737 ✭✭✭✭Alf Veedersane

The shirt dictates. If the hem is the same length around then in it goes.

I wear shirts tucked into slacks when in work as it's formal gear but just cant wear casual shirts tucked into jeans It feels weird, also some casual shirts are that long It's like a fecking dress when hanging down, how low should it go before tucking it in is the only acceptable way #FirstWorldIssues

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,226 ✭✭✭boobar

    Wearing jeans...shirt out.

    Wearing formal trousers...tucked in.

Long sleeve shirt with tie...tuck it in.

There's so much wrong about that post from my point of view. I only wear casual shirts and they always have to be on the outside because I'd feel restricted/restrained otherwise. If I wanted to wear a sweater, I'd go into a coma for 40 or 50 years.

And ties are the most ridiculous things ever. At the age of 42, I've only worn a tie about 4 or 5 times.

If it's a fitted shirt, go nuts and tuck it in. but I don't wear them.

Keep the shirt well tucked into the jeans at least until you get out of the shop and around the corner where you can flog it for enough to buy a baggy of heroin

Now, majorbill, you've to wear clothes in proportion to your physique. There are definite dos and don'ts, good buddy of wearing a bold striped shirt. A bold stripe shirt calls for solid colored or discreetly patterned suits and ties.

Shirts and Jeans are'nt really a winning combo for most lads

If you have a ned kelly then just add a nice pair of pointed tan dress shoes so you can look like a complete sap.
