Does this mean I cannot open the box and hold the item - and then return cause i don't like the feel of it ? I was under the opinion any online purchase you could return for any reason within so many days ? Perhaps I am wrong, anyone ever dealt with them ?

I don't think so? When I get my iPhone online it had a big red sticker on the wrapper that said "PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU WANT TO KEEP THIS PHONE BEFORE TAKING THE WRAPPER OFF" - or words to that effect.
