PC won't start after Windows 10 install

    PC refuses to start after installing Windows 10 at the weekend. Its a Packerd Bell Inmedia running Windows 7. I want to revert to Windows 7 as I fear losing recent photographs & files that havent been backed up. I got on to Microsoft. Was to told to contact Packard Bell. Packard Bell looked for £50STG to solve my problem. I terminated that call pretty quickly. I cant ever recall getting an install disc when buying the computer. Product key sticker still on the PC. Any ideas out there as to what my options are?

    Give it time. If the hard light activity light is active then it's probably still installing.

    If it is stalled, just try a reset, it should resume installing. I find it can take 1-2 hrs to fully install.

    Following my windows 10 update I was getting a blank screen after signing in. I figured out how to shut down properly and when I turned back on it was fine.

    Sounds obvious I know but have you tried shutting down and rebooting?

    If you cant access System Restore, you could try restoring the operating system, most Packard Bells desktops and notebooks come preloaded with a recovery partition to allow you to restore the operating system on your computer.

    It will erase all your files though, so would be a last resort.

    Then it's most likely a driver issue causing it to hang.
    Try disconnecting everything except keyboard & mouse, and rebooting.

    If it still hangs try getting into safe mode, and then reboot.

    If you have access to another computer, you can create a bootable Windows 10 install disk or USB drive, and boot off that, and select the Repair option on the Install Now screen.

    You can select Advanced/Troubleshoot/Startup Repair or Advanced/Safe Mode.

    Note that I have not done this myself, so I don't know the full consequences of doing this, I'm just telling you how to get there. But if you boot into Safe mode, I would expect that you should be able to access your photos and documents and back them up before you go any further.
